Lara Fabian's letter to Celine

Maybe she meant it's a pity for her because the interviewer didn't know who she was? Because if someone thinks she is Lara then maybe her own profile isn't as big as everyone thought. Or maybe she was in a bitchy mood that day, it's just very out of character for her to be negative about someone.

That's what I think she meant too.

That's interesting but a little weird and sarcastic- almost declaration of love and affection. I read many years ago in Cosmopolitan, that Sony tries to repeat its success they had with Celine by signing a contract with Lara.

I think this is one of many recoqnition of Celine as an icon!

I've always thought about their duet- hope one day! :whistling:

The woman is crap -_-

Why do you say so?

Of course not everybody has to like Lara and her music, but while getting to know her songs and her I discovered not only what an amazing voice she has, but what a warm, loving and emotional person she seems to be. And her words of admiration and love sound so honest... If I ever got to be a famous vocalist (and God knows I'd love to ;) ), I would probably write something similar... and maybe both to Celine and Lara, as well as a couple of other singers.

Gawd this has been said so manyh times before but.. here goes:

She has a great voice but no soul... she butchers 90% of the songs she sings.. espacially covers!

I thought she got a little toned down after neuf but after hearing some of the songs from the new album(and BTW AWEFUL arrangments and plain aweful everything in it.. espacially LAEE, how can such an emotional song can come out so soulless?!) I see that she hasn't changed..

the thing about her and Celine. I understand that she's a big fan.. but she imitates her too much, she does the same covers Celine does, she makes the same album Celine does (a women related concept album - come on!) it's all too much copying... and she definately tries to show off and than does a thing like this, to show that it is all with love.. i can't stand her...

I disagree- LAra sings with all her heart- you can sink with her in her songs and feelings- she puts everything in her songs. she is cool, simply her deeep voice may confuse some soft voice lovers. :))) :sofunny:

I like Lara Fabian, i have a few of her album. but the latest one i don't really like it.

Yes. I am a singer. and of course I sing many covers, including Celine songs (in fact, that same picture that's in my profile is of me, singing "I surrender"). but unless I was a celebrity imitator, I wouldn't base my entire career on someone else's career. I was just discussing this matter with a fellow singer friend (who BTW is a big Larka fan and was just appalled the new songs) that even though you can very influenced by a certain singer (I myself, am VERY influenced by Celine). I used to listen alot to several other singers and if I sand their songs (for examples in vocal lessons etc.) I'd copy them so much. I have learned to tone it down and give it my own style. I wouldn't wanna build my career like someoen else's but make my own style. Of course I love Celine and admire everything she's done and I wish my career was as successful as hers but I wouldn't wish my career TO BE hers.

Regarding the video - if I heard it correctly, she said 'Tant pis pour moi', yes? Which (I believe) could be translated as 'The worse for me', and besides, she's laughing, so I wouldn't make a fuss about it :) And in fact I think the journalist could as well have mentioned Barbra, Mariah, or any other great singer instead of Lara - I mean, he probably did it on purpose but it might just as well be a coincidence, and if it wasn't, Celine may not have thought about it anyway. If I were Celine - or myself in a famous version :D - I would probably think it's a shame if someone (especially an interviewer!) thought I was someone else... BTW, I think it was a stupid question to ask :P

And I don't think Lara would like to BE Celine or have HER career. In fact she has developed her very unique style, but that's not what I want to discuss and I don't want to fight with you Mrs.Goldman - or anyone else - over Lara. But I would love to be a singer myself - in fact I'm attempting to be but I need a lot more training and above all I have to stop treating my throat badly ;) - but anyway, the way Celine and Lara, and a couple other singers feel their songs IS pretty much the way I feel them, I sink deep in their emotions and in my own, and I don't think it's wrong to be inspired by an artist you love or even 'copy' them - if you as a singer believe it's your tribute to that person. And when it comes to the women-inspired album filled with covers - well I had been dreaming of recording such an album one day long before Lara did and before Celine recorded 'D'elles' (which was not a cover album, so in fact not the same thing Lara later did), so it's not only hardly original but it is a way of expressing your deepest feelings and admiration for other women, and I think those two albums are personally very important to both of them - mine would be (maybe one day will be) to me...

Wow!!! I knew from the moment I heard Lara Fabian that she was influenced by Celine. She breathes like Celine, she mixes her voice like Celine. And not to mention, the way Lara wraps or ends a high note is very much Celine.

It's not Lara's fault. It's her delusional fans who declared her as the better one AT THE EXPENSE OF CELINE and totally discredited her. This hurt Celine fans making it hard for us to embrace Lara. Celine fans didn't do that to Barbra who's Celine's idol.

The letter is lovely and it just shows that anyone who are inspired by Celine become great people like Lara, Siti (Malaysia), Charice and Sarah Geronimo (Phils.)

The first time I heard Lara singing is more than a decade ago and she is always one of the best!

I truely believe every word she wrote in that letter!

I got my tears in my eyes.

maybe, compared to Celine, Lara's life is closer to the reality which we are living in....

I cried a river too! I just read this yesterday and I couldn't sleep. For the longest time I really think this is how Lara feels of Celine. I'm glad that she has recognized Celine. I see myself in Lara and I think many Celine fans!! This helps bring a closure to this Celine-versus-Lara thing at least for me.

I just heard Lara talking in a French TV show called "10hLeMag" and she said that these letters she wrote to each of the female singers she reprises in her new album were not supposed to be made public. She decided to include them in the booklet of the album after discussing it with her mother and a good friend, who told her that people must know her story and why she decided to pay tribute to the singers who inspired her to become a singer.

Lara has also said that she has sent each song with its letter to each singer (except the dead ones obviously), so now we know that Celine will get the letter Lara wrote to her and the version Lara does of "L'amour existe encore"!

No that's not the interview I was talking about. It's the one from a show called "10hLeMag". It has not surfaced on YouTube, at least not yet.

Somehow reading it in french makes it clearer for me. if she is honest about her feelings, then Celine is her biggest influence and not Barbra or Nana as she always said. I wonder what she wrote about the other artists she covered. One thing she is certainly right about: Celine's voice is inimitable! Aretha was followed by Fantasia among many other soul singers (who were never given the chance to shine due to Ree's bitchiness), Streisand's tone is very similar to Lara's, Mariah's been emulated by Leona, Whitney by Christina, and yet no one has ever come close to having the same vocal qualities as Celine (and no Charice isn't going to be that one, just in case anyone wanted to go there)

That is a very neat observation. I have never looked at things like that before. I think you're right...except the Charice thing....I think she will be very close to reaching what success Celine has acheived. She has rare power vocals for her age. However I wonder why she hasn't recorded her own album yet? Anyway I don't like Lara at all. I've only seen a handful of her videos but....no. I don't like that letter either. Something doesn't seem right. Oh well that's just me no biggy. :D

"My heart is beating harder than ever. I'm not different but I'm more grown-up. I have more strength; I'm stronger, I'm deeper, and I want to do it for my fans. It's all that matters."

"And look at the date when she wrote it... Sur les plaines concert... so important for Celine... is that a coincidence?"

Maybe she was there in Quebec City (we prob. would have heard about that), or watching the broadcast live and it made her think of her admiration of Celine. Who knows, maybe a coincidence!

Good to know that Lara likes Celine. Can't wait to hear this album when I get it tomorrow.

yeah i noticed that too!! Maybe she saw the concert on tv, and got the inspiration to write this letter that night??

Nice letter, although I've never heard of her,lol...

She very pretty though! :P

Darren.

oh darren you have a lot to discover... I just love her! J'y crois encore/ No big deal/ Adagio/ Part of Me/ Je Me Souviens etc etc go and download buy her albums!!

Did she write similar moving messages to the other singers or is the one to Celine the most emotional?

Anyway, I hope they do a duet together. Two great voices. Could be magical.

The other letters are definitely not as long and not as personal.

yeah I noticed that too! It's the longest letter in the booklet and I thought it was so cute she wrote a part of the lyrics of L'oiseaux du bonheur :wub2: In a way the letter is a bit weird, but then again, Lara is a bit weird too! :giggle:

The woman is crap -_-

don't make me post that picture here too :whistling:

aaah that's so sweet! :D i think she made the right decision to add the letters in the booklet!

I liked Mamy Blue! It also reminds me a bit of another song of hers...

oke now LAEE... I expected something bad, reading some of ur posts... but I like it! the music still kinda sounds a bit dated, like early 1990s... she could have easily screamed the whole song, but i think she held back good enough! at least the first half! :P hahahaha

I hope Céline will say something about this version and her letter! And I am stil for a duet! :whistling:

If you think Lara doesn't have soul, then see the live performances of Broken Vow, Je suis malade.

Lara and Celine are very different. Celine had a complete support of her family, found the love of her life in an instance and could fully live her dream. While Lara started out later and had a lot of struggling in her personal life, she was not lucky with men which has an influence on her personality and artistry. Lara had a more difficult life.

I love both of them, in English and French too.

This is such an amazing and genuine letter! I feel like the letter that I wrote to Celine sounds like something a 2nd grader would write now... gosh.

My favorite thing she wrote is this: You've been my greatest influence, my biggest emotions, the reason for most of the tears I shed..."

If someone said that to me... I would be a big ball of tears

I'm not sure Lara really feels what she wrote. I don't trust the woman. Of course we knew she likes Celine because Lara copied Celine way too much for my liking. I love Lara's voice but when she started copying Celine's looks (long hair, curly, then lighter color, white suit-pants outfit, show lighting, etc.) that was too much for me.

Lara wants to be as popular as Celine and would do anything to achieve what Celine has achieved. Including sucking up to her in a letter or covering some of Celine's songs. Lara knows that every time she touches something "Celine" she gets some publicity out of it...

NO DUET as far as I'm concerned.

I've loved Lara since I heard her for the first time! I think she's amazing so I really don't care about anything that anybody might say against her! So, I do believe her!! That letter was the cutest and it'd surely touch Céline if she read it!

I hadn't got the chance to buy this album yet, so thanks for posting the letters from the booklet! :D :thumbsup2:

Ditto and more....

But I don't feel like adding anything more on this subject really except to say.... I wish for NO duet or comment by Céline!

Lara wrote a letter to Céline around 1999, a second one again in 2009 that she made public this time...

So....to be followed in 2019 I guess :giggle: even though I think and hope everything has been said and done now.

Good luck to Lara!

I love this letter. To me it seems very honest and the language Lara uses is fantastic.

You have to think about the fact that somehow it also must be difficult for Lara to deal with Celine.

Celine is more successfull but Lara says something like "Your voice is unique, you are better, you deserve it"

I think that is a great gesture.

Host:During an interview, you figure out that the journalist thinks your are Lara Fabian, how do you react?

Celine: ermmm...It's a pity for me.

She said TANT PIS POUR MOI...

Doesn't that just mean "Too bad for me..."

Meaning TOO BAD THE INTERVIEWER DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS CÉLINE DION...

"It's a pity for me." sounds like she's almost insulting Lara... And our Céline would never belittle another artist... :)
