Maybe she was there in Quebec City (we prob. would have heard about that), or watching the broadcast live and it made her think of her admiration of Celine. Who knows, maybe a coincidence! Good to know that Lara likes Celine. Can't wait to hear this album when I get it tomorrow. Quote

Gawd this has been said so manyh times before but.. here goes:She has a great voice but no soul... she butchers 90% of the songs she sings.. espacially covers!I thought she got a little toned down after neuf but after hearing some of the songs from the new album(and BTW AWEFUL arrangments and plain aweful everything in it.. espacially LAEE, how can such an emotional song can come out so soulless?!) I see that she hasn't changed.. the thing about her and Celine. I understand that she's a big fan.. but she imitates her too much, she does the same covers Celine does, she makes the same album Celine does (a women related concept album - come on!) it's all too much copying... and she definately tries to show off and than does a thing like this, to show that it is all with love.. i can't stand her... dumpling Posted May 27, 2009 at 04:20 AM Posted May 27, 2009 at 04:20 AM (edited) So Mrs. Goldman, you're now saying that Lara writes her own songs but has NO SOUL at all? Well, I must be crazy, because I can hear REAL SOUL in Lara's songs and voice! Maybe you know much about music than me to know what's soul or what's not soul, but just don't call people crap, its rude (at least in my country). I know tons of people calling our Celine a crap, it hurts, right; so why do we call other singers crap, it hurts them, too. In some ways I think Lara is more creative and soulful than Celine. She changes her song arrangement from time to time, because she has much freedom in her music. Maybe Celine want to do it but she's more restricted (by Rene or the big name in her team). And I really don't want to admit that sometimes I got touched when I see Lara performing live. BUt as long as vocal capability goes, no one can beat Celine, after watching her deut with The Lost Fingers. Lara copys Celine, maybe its ture, I really don't know that much about Lara's career. But since she says in her letter that she admires Celine so much, why can we change our ways of thinking. She might be doing this out of admiration of her or she regards Celine as her goal or something. Its normal for people to imitate their idols, and we should be glad that Lara did this, that just shows how great Celine's influence is. But deep in Lara's and our hears, we all know that she is never never going to be the second Celine (or maybe she doesn't mean to do that at all). Does thinking that way makes you feel, better. Why are we Celine fnas so eager to make square for Celine about this copy thing since I didn't hear any comment from Celine or Rene about this. Probably they barely think of her as a threat, haha! BTW, I can bet you there are tons of woman-related concept albums out there... Edited May 27, 2009 at 04:23 AM by dumpling Quote
Noid Enilec Posted May 27, 2009 at 01:55 PM Posted May 27, 2009 at 01:55 PM About 9 years ago, when Lara first popped on the scene in the US (or, I first noticed her), I found her English songs really annoying/boring and refused to listen to her because the media always said Lara Fabian and Celine Dion had some sort of feud.... and I chose to support Celine (I used to be a SCF....). A lot of people really liked Lara, but I couldn't understand why. I happened to be in Montreal when Lara Fabian was playing there about two years ago, so I went and saw her perform and give her a fair chance. She was an amazing performer!! Oh my gosh, it was an awesome show. The show was totally in French but it was so great... and I know not a word of French! She sang part of Je T'aime without a microphone and without instrumentals so we could hear her voice unfiltered. I wish Celine would do that during a show . Anyways, nobody's ever going to agree about who's good and who's not. But, people shouldn't be so quick to write Lara off .... Quote
Mrs.Goldman Posted May 27, 2009 at 02:06 PM Posted May 27, 2009 at 02:06 PM Larka is crap. It's not rude to asy it coz that's my opinion. If I said it to her face, it would've been rude but here, it's my own opinion and i am entitled to it. Yes, she writes her won songs but her way of performing them is soulless. she always screams just to show off and not because it's apropriate for the song or the emotions. it's not only the women-concept thing. it's the fact that she does it right after Celine did. and that's not the only time she does something like that.. i despise her... I'm sorry to ask... but you as a singer (for your picture I think you are) never sang a Céline song? Were you never inspired for something she did? Never dreamt that you could be a little like her? Didn't Céline sing songs performed before by other people? What's the difference? By the way, so that you know, Lara sang L'amour existe encore or Calling You after Céline? Well, Céline also sang Tue Moi in a duet with Dan Bigras after Lara did it. You may not like Lara, not liker her music, her songs, but like you've said... It's just your opinion. And saying she's crap is rude. And even if that's your opinion, this is mine. I don't believe that kind of bashing of other people should be allowed... but also, that's my opinion. The point is that people may not like Lara's work or Lara's persona but using that to say she's crap and wants to BE Céline is a very different thing. For what she said in the letter, Céline inspired her and it's a reference. As Céline fans we should be proud of this instead of going around talking about things with a biased vision and double standards. And I'm not a Lara fan... I'm just sick of this non sense bashing. I really hope they meet or sing in a duet to shut everyone up. Bralo20 Posted May 27, 2009 at 05:47 PM Posted May 27, 2009 at 05:47 PM I do agree with ZoraSourit... You can dislike some artist, you can dislike or even hate the music and that is your good right but like ZoraSourit allready said calling her "crap" is a bridge to far... Lara is an amazing singer with some great songs and yes, she sang Céline covers just like other artists did before her... Lara her latest album is an album full with covers, covers of female artists that meant something for her, artists that she loved, admired, gave her inspiration... Is it a bad cd because it's a cd full with covers? No it isn't... I've downloaded the new album on Itunes and was amazed. She made one hell of an album, an album that maybe won't be a bestseller but and album that is just amazing... I had the privilege to hear some of her songs last year in an exclusive preview meeting months before the album was originaly scheduled... When I here the album now I understand why it got postponed so many months, while it was great back then, the songs are extraordinary at this point. It was definately worth waiting for! Even the Céline cover is beautifull... Very beautifull to be precize... Lara is NOT Céline and never will be, while she is in my eyes maybe even a better singer on some points (Her live version of Céline's Pour que tu m'aimes encore is absolutely amazing and let's not forget her version of Caruso which is astonishing) then Céline she will never become a second Céline. Not in terms of music and neither in terms of sales or success... I even doubt she would even want such a succes then Céline has... Céline is an one hell of an amazing singer, absolute top in terms of sales, hits, etc... Few can beat her but she is not alone on the world... The world has a lot of great singers wich includes both Céline and Lara... Both have maybe the same line of music, even some similarities in their voices but in the end they are both different artists with their strenghts and their weaknesses... Lara was inspired by Céline, Barbara and others, what's wrong about that? Every single artist is inspired by someone else, wetter it is Céline, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Paul Mc Cartney, U2, etc... All of them were inspired to became a singer or form a band... Some maybe by modern artists, some maybe even by classic composers from centuries ago... I have a broad taste of music, from classical music by country, classic rock to pop music... Which I don't like is hard rock music, punk, house, etc... Does this mean that I find an artist like Marilyn Manson crap? No I don't... I maybe don't like the music or even can't hear the music but I do have respect for him as an artist. Just think about it, have some respect, even if you don't like the artist Respect is the least every single person on this earth should get! Quote ...
