In anticipation of Taylor Swift's "Mine" debut on August 16, a cover art for the song is unleashed. The 20-year-old country music singer is pictured from behind, wearing a white dress and looking back at the camera. Empty space on the image, which is obtained via Celebuzz, is filled with what seems to be handwriting of the song lyrics. Beside offering the first look at the artwork, representatives for Taylor Swift have also visited radio stations across the country to play the new track before it goes on air next month. One of the stations which got the first listen is 100.3 KILT. " 'Mine' is an uptempo song that's unmistakably Taylor," the station reviews it. "It's a boy/girl song, sort of like 'Love Story', but a much more realistic look at a relationship. It shows Taylor's growth and maturity over the 2 years since she released 'Fearless', but still maintains Taylor's ability to tell a story with an instantly memorable hook." The chorus is described as "big" and "very singable" with such lines as "You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter / You are the best thing that's ever been mine." Taylor Swift's "tendency to run from love," "Mine" is the first single from her new album "Speak Now" which is due October 25 in United States. She said, "[it's] every really direct example of love that I've had in front of me has ended in goodbye and ended in breakups and things like that. So I think I've developed this pattern of running away when it comes time to fall in love and stay in a relationship."

Though its release was rushed due to the online leak, as expected, Taylor Swift’s “Mine” has quickly surged to the top of the iTunes single sales chart.

 

Predicted to be the first smash from new album “Speak Now,” which will be one of the year’s top sellers in its own right, “Mine” surged to number one within hours of release, removing Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite” from the top of the heap. Other top five singles include Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie (featuring Rihanna),” Enrique Iglesias’ “I Like It (featuring Pitbull)” and Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream.”

 

As noted in the Headline Planet review, the sure-to-succeed single marks Swift’s continued evolution from her stripped down, anecdotal-driven songwriting into the polished world of mainstream pop. Nonetheless, with a chorus and melody as catchy as many of her prior singles and a familiar lyrical construct, the song is unlikely to alienate even her most long-standing fans.

Taylor Swift and Big Machine Records' latest publicity coup in getting MTV Networks to turn the release of the upcoming music video for "Mine" into a multi-channel, worldwide extravaganza. The song is part of her upcoming album "Speak Now."

 

Taylor Swift is taking a page out of LeBron James’ book.

 

Viacom’s MTV Networks will debut the Nashville phenom’s latest music video, “Mine,” in a cross-platform, cross-channel global premier likely to be every bit as hyped as James’ hourlong ESPN special last month to announce he would join the NBA’s Miami Heat.

 

The hoopla is being described as unprecedented for a country music artist and is a testament to Swift’s cross-genre appeal. The move also further illustrates Swift and label Big Machine Records’ penchant for turning otherwise routine occurances into major publicity events.

 

Last month Swift bypassed the press to announce the release of her next album, “Speak Now,” in a live Internet stream visited by 144,000 people. A story in Billboard Country Update on July 26 openly questioned whether it was a “landmark moment” and noted that “the chat ... showed how an artist with a self-sufficient team can effectively control their message and enhance the buzz surrounding their product.”

 

The premiere of “Mine” will reach more than 160 countries on MTV, VH1 and CMT, as well as MTV Networks’ websites and mobile platforms. Prior to an online premiere scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Aug. 27, CMT will air a half-hour live special at 8 p.m. The special will re-air at later times on MTV and VH1

 

“It’s an incredibly big deal,” Big Machine Publicity Manager Natalie Kilgore said. “I’m not sure if it’s ever been done before.”

 

The global debut comes after “Mine” was rushed to radio earlier this month after a low-quality version of the song was leaked online. The song is the first single release from “Speak Now,” and debuted at No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart, making her only the second female artist, along with Mariah Carey, to score two top 5 singles in a calendar year.

 

CMT spokeswoman Amanda Murphy said there was a lot of internal discussion within MTV Networks about whether the “Mine” debut was going to be a first-of-its kind event. Video debuts for stars such as Madonna and Michael Jackson have been handled in a similar manner, although they’re hard to compare because of the new opportunities created by web and mobile platforms.

 

“Definitely, at least for a country artist, I do feel this is unprecedented,” Murphy said.

You're still an innocent. Taylor Swift brings some class to the VMAs

 

A long time ago, I learned the following lesson: never doubt the Fearless One, she will prove you wrong every time. It’s been a year since the VMAs from 2009 and I just had to learn that lesson all over again.

 

Lady Gaga got the award for the Female Video of the Year as well as Video of the Year. Well deserved. Congratulations!

 

Taylor didn’t win any awards. That doesn’t really matter. Hear me out. It doesn’t. I feel relieved she never had to accept anything. What she did do is perform. She brought out a new unreleased song, a song that remains nameless so far but has the word Innocent in its chorus, although a few people have made references to Back To December which is a title she once mentioned during an interview about the other songs in Speak Now. It could be named either or neither way, it’s still a very powerful song.

 

Taylor set up a stage, a home with an old TV showing a scene we know all too well from last year. Taking the stage to accept the award, then a quick edit to show she was getting interrupted, and the figure of the rapper whose name I forget barely on a second, then skips the whole speech from him altogether to show her again. As the TV fades into silence, Taylor begins to sign. The Agency is there, but this time they’re in the shadows. Present but not spotlighted. Taylor is doing this alone. She sings and strums a guitar while sitting in a chair but very briefly. Leaving guitar and chair, she takes a mike and steps onto the stage. She’s barefoot. Her hair is up, she could be a star from the 50′s or 60′s but her dress is simple.

 

I’ve never seen her more vulnerable as when she stepped out onto that huge stage alone. No shining sparkly dress, no boots. Her vocals are crisp clear. Her backup is minimal. Yet I found this performance so powerful that it’s chilling. The lyrics are about innocence, and about growing up. Yes it’s inspired by the VMA experience from 2009 but it could apply to anything and anyone. Not once in her lyrics does she ever mention… the guy I never mention myself.

 

And I couldn’t be prouder of her if it weren’t my own little sister on stage. No, she didn’t bring any smack down. She brought class. You didn’t get it, I don’t care. I don’t give a flying rat’s behind if you didn’t understood what she was signing about. Everyone has been ridiculed, and most of us have at one point ridiculed somebody. We all need forgiveness and we all need to forgive. It is relatable and it’s Taylor Swift. You wanted controversy, she brought class. You wanted immature antics, she showed growth. If you think the song really is about revenge, payback or getting back, you’ve missed the point entirely.

 

I know some will say Taylor can’t let go of the past, but I will both accept and object to that. I believe Taylor can’t let go of the past without learning a lesson from it. And now she’s sharing that with whoever will listen, either because they have gone through something similar or they’re about to.

 

Sorry I couldn’t get into the show after that. Eminem and Rihanna were great. I missed Paramore and Hayley Williams, I regret that. Katy Perry was cool and funny. Most of the show was a commercial for MTV shows.

 

And how was the rapper whose name I forget? Well, let’s forgive and forget. So, he’s forgiven. And forgotten.

Gaga, Taylor Swift big winners at MTV VMAs

 

Lady Gaga collected the trophies, but Taylor Swift might have been the biggest winner at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles.

 

Gaga's won eight moon man statuettes, including video of the year for "Bad Romance." Over the course of the night she thanks "the gays, for remaking ('Bad Romance') over and over again," and Cher, who presented her with video of the year, for holding her "meat bag" — her final outfit of the night was a get-up that appeared to be made of cuts of meat.

 

But in a single ballad Swift signaled she was ready to move on from last year's VMA fiasco with Kanye West. Swift issued the musical equivalent of an official pardon, beginning her performance with a video montage of West's interruption and transitioning into lyrics that included "Who you are is not what you did" and "Today is never too late to be brand new."

 

West acquitted himself well in the night's final performance, delivering an equally serious song that owned up to his gaffe with lines like "Let's have a toast for the scumbags."

Taylor Swift is used to getting massive ovations from stadiums full of fans, and indeed when she was introduced at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, that's exactly the sort of treatment she got from the live crowd. But by the time she got through her new song (which may or may not be called "Innocent" or "Forgiveness"), the audience was mostly overcome with stunned silence. But she shouldn't consider that a bad thing — rather, it was the best response she could have hoped for considering how intense and passionate the song was.

 

Swift began the number seated in an arm chair and strumming an acoustic guitar while footage from her acceptance speech at the 2009 VMAs played on a small television next to her. The tune started out spare and desolate, perhaps darker than anything she has ever recorded. It had a real gritty, dirty, unsettling country feel to it — not a sound that she is accustomed to creating, but certainly one that she grew up listening to. The song built slowly, like a quiet storm, and by the time she got up from the chair and took command of the stage herself, it was a full-blown monsoon. Swift has rarely looked this committed to a performance at an awards show, and she wore it with a staggering amount of maturity and grace. Indeed, it didn't seem like Swift could become any bigger, but if this is what we can expect from Speak Now, then her star will continue to rise in ways she never thought possible.

 

Whether it's specifically about Kanye West or not, the song remains an important step in Swift's evolution and could point to bigger, more complex themes for her future work. She may enjoy the screams of adoration, but tonight she learned that silence can be golden too.

I like Taylor, but her performance at the VMAs left me quite underwhelmed. I have a feeling I will like the album version tho, cause the thing that distracted me the most was the sound quality (very low and sounded very distant to me)
