Honestly, I was a member for years but I let mine expire earlier this year and I have NOT missed anything. Saying that, can someome with TC answer me a question? Does she hold the "did you knoooooooooooooow" parts a bit longer like in the recent performances? I much preferred this style to the way she used to sing at the start of the tour. autumnskies00 Posted September 17, 2008 at 09:59 PM Posted September 17, 2008 at 09:59 PM It's an attitude like that(If you can still sell it, sell it) which makes Sony and Celine keep milking the 90's cash cow for all it's worth. Her "casual fans" are mostly the ones going crazy for her old songs. A lot of the new songs on tour are amazing(Fade Away, My Love[Just because I love it on tour, doesn't mean I want it on her greatest hits], Taking Chances, even Eyes On Me[though it's lipped]), but all of the other All The Way/A New Day... stuff is really just lame. As i've said, her casual fans will buy All The Way and go to one concert at most, and her die-hard fans are the ones buying everything with her name on it. And yet Sony and Celine choose to appeal to the "casual fan". Her casual fans do nothing. She needs to step out of her comfort zone and finally realize many of her die-hard fans want her to embrace the new Taking Chances Celine, and step away from the 90's Celine. Why can't she just do more new songs on tour, give a crap about getting involved in her records and promoting them, and just at least act to us like she cares? Is it that hard? I'm sorry if I sound really critical, but this was just the breaking point. Why promote something that sells itself? Thats obviously their take on it. Besides, they DID promote TC. She was all over the TV in several countries. After the first single didn't take off, I guess they didn't bother. I don't agree with that, but it's too late now. This album, we shouldn't expect any more from a GH album. It is what it is. An album of her greatest hits. Again, I doubt Celine had anything to do with the creation of it. I agree though, I enjoy hearing the new songs on tour...I'm actually bored during the 90's songs, since I have heard them a zillion times live/playback. The sad thing is, judging by audience reaction, I think there are more "casual fans" than die hard ones there. I don't think she enjoys singing them as much ethier...I think she lips them because she's bored of them. I think they're are just going on the feedback that they get. Money from CD sales goes mostly to the record label (especially greatest hits). She gets maybe cents per album sold. Nothing much. Although I like Sony , I think they are the ones 'milking the 90's cash cow' with this album. Not Celine. They probably just figured, hey she's on tour, lets get some sales from it. They don't make the money from the tour so they do other things to make money off of it.IE a GH CD or a Tour CD. When I was at Sony this summer, that was their take on the New Kids on the Block GH. They're on tour, lets release this greatest hits and make money off of it. I sat in a meeting and heard them say that and was like Quote http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b213/autumnskies00/siggy1-2.jpg
Thomas Posted September 17, 2008 at 10:05 PM Posted September 17, 2008 at 10:05 PM (edited) I thought it was good, not as good as the recent performances which have been really incredible...and she sang the correct lyrics at the end recently too which was nice. stevo Posted September 17, 2008 at 10:08 PM Posted September 17, 2008 at 10:08 PM Why is everyone so upset it's the Live Version? Everyone on this forum seems to rant and rave about it every show she does- so they thought let's have this on the album as the audience love it- what a travesty!! I suppose she should have found the time to record 5 or 6 new songs. *CENSORED* Quote

autumnskies00 Posted September 17, 2008 at 10:10 PM Posted September 17, 2008 at 10:10 PM I wish it was from the Prudential center friday night. I don't think any of us here could deny that her tears at the end are "exagerated" to some degree. Maybe it's also the reason a studio version wouldn't work? She needs the audience to play to so that the dramatics and tears at the end actually work. A studio version done in the same way as the tour might not have the same effect. Quote

A studio version done in the same way as the tour might not have the same effect.Well, it may be as you say but I want to point out that studio versions of her live versions (sounds wierd ya) are actually to prefer to the live one. Take a look at What A Wonderful World and If I Could (I never liked that song from AND but as studio version it was actually very listenable) they are much better on Miracle then on AND LIL. The main reason for this may be the proper instrumentals, I mean common am I the only one who thinks Mego's sound sounds so cheap and hollow?! A studio version would bring much more class to this "live version". /fred Quote Peace and love to all.
autumnskies00 Posted September 17, 2008 at 11:03 PM Posted September 17, 2008 at 11:03 PM Hahah seeing the show five times now, the whole crying speech gets really old, especially because its been the same EVERY NIGHT! She would make a good actress hhaha. I can never understand how she manages to get these tears out every night. But I must admit, every time I hear this song, I cry like a baby because it really does hit me emotionally. Who knows, maybe something her life really makes her cry everytime she sings that song. It doesn't make sense though, because the song is about someone you love with all your heart, and doing everything you can for them, but nothing pleases them. Well, thats my take on the song anyway. Maybe it has different meaning to her...we'll never know if it's real or not. But it has lost the real emotion for me, I agree. 'for some reason, I'm not quite sure why actually...blah blah blah....this song is like a prayer for me..blah blah blah...I would like to give it a try for you tonight'. Being the sappy girl I am though, I still lurve it haha. Quote http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b213/autumnskies00/siggy1-2.jpg

Well if fans want the tears then this is the version for them. This song began beautifully at the start of the tour an elegant simplicity about it all take a look at performances in South Africa, Australia etc. In Melbourne when I saw her before I had seen the recording session I was like "oh what... this My Love song?! I hate this song" However I was pleasantly surprised the acapellla was stunning she was on her knees the emotion was subtle and believable and I really enjoyed it and I did not need to throw her up a box of Kleenex tissues, sure she had the glassy eye thing happening but it wasn't "over-the-top", and Celine being the angel that she, is is giving the fans on the rest of the tour what they came to see, water works! Thomas Posted September 17, 2008 at 11:14 PM Posted September 17, 2008 at 11:14 PM Well yeah I agree it's a good version. I saw four performances back to back at the start of the European leg and it's awesome. But by the last night you know what's coming and it get's a bit cheesy. But that's part of this particular performance like you say and it's why this performance is special to us. And the studio version wouldn't be the same, how could it be? She couldn't start crying at the end, it would seem totally contrived. So maybe we should stick with what we have! A nice and simple studio version on one hand and a dramatic and a slightly-cheesy-at-the-end live version on the other...and never the two shall meet! Quote

Totally agree! It was the same thing for me, didn't see anything special with the song at all (still don't with the TC album version) but wehn watching one of those early bootlegs I really liked it. Still however thinks this song has been blown way out of proportion ever since that recording session came out. Céline goes emotional and all fans go bananas. Besides Linda Perry's coldreading wasn't that impressive. Haha, Thomas, what's up with this need for crying?! And I actually do believe much of the emotion in these live versions still. I mean, Céline seems to be a very emotional person, nothing wrong with that. And you can clearly hear the true soul heartfelt spirit go through the lyrics (live)(esp at the end), which have been oh so absent from all of these repedative same old same old performances of the old worn out songs (not to mention the playbacks). So no, I wouldn't actually question Céline's sensirity here nor call her an actress. /fred Quote Peace and love to all.
