Timster Posted September 20, 2008 at 08:25 PM Posted September 20, 2008 at 08:25 PM I LOVE the fact that it's the live Jerry Lewis Telethon version. I already have that version so you know what this means? I already own My Love: Essential Collection!!!! Yup. It's in my iPod, I'm about to listen to it on my subway ride. I am aware that some versions of the album have a "bonus track" called There Comes A Time but I'm sure I will be able to download that from the Internet at some point. I was able to do that with the bonus tracks from Taking Chances, Map To My Heart and The Reason I Go On. I'm so excited to already own My Love: Essential Collection and I didn't have to spend any money on it!!!! WOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Now... that's cheap... Agreed. I already have all the songs on the new album (apart from the new ones of course), but I'll still buyit! Quote

smw Posted September 20, 2008 at 09:09 PM Author Posted September 20, 2008 at 09:09 PM I don't think her English career is "over"....but she needs something completely new in the future. Her French career is going to have the Maria Callas project - which she will hopefully bring to the U.S. as well. But she needs a strong concept album. It's no more about having big selling albums...but quality albums. Leaving a legacy. A jazz album would be ideal. Something that makes people sit up and realize the quality she's able to produce. ...And I agree that D'elles is a strong album. Certainly stronger concept that Taking Chances. Quote
karatedude317 Posted September 20, 2008 at 09:09 PM Posted September 20, 2008 at 09:09 PM I think this live version is from one of the European concert, as Thomas said Celine is singing the song diferent than in Europe, now she says did you knooooooooooooo so strong and powerful, you can check this video last 13th is more powerful than the new version on teamceline. Wow that version is AMAZING!! Her vocals are excellent! I was there that night!!!!! I agree, that version was one of her best! So glad to have been there! Quote

D'elles was one of her best albums in her whole career. I agree that D'elles was a defining career album, but I have to agree with firebird on the singing the same songs part. The French Leg os the Taking Chances Tour is horrifying. It's supposed to be promoting D'elles, and yet there's only one D'elles song. And half the setlist is English. But I defanitly agree, Alex, that she should focus more of her attention on her Francophone career(not all, but defanitly a lot more than she does). Quote http://i51.tinypic.com/2uf4r5f.png
Titanica Posted September 21, 2008 at 06:17 AM Posted September 21, 2008 at 06:17 AM In my opinion any live version of My Love pales in comparison to the studio recording. Not once has this song live given me chills like the original did. My Love was my favourite song off Taking Chances from the very beginning. While most people called it boring I thought it was brilliant. One of her best ballads. As soon as she started to do it live people freaked out. "The Highlight of the Concert!!! What A Beautiful Song!" But I was so unimpressed. She can fake cry and drag the song out as much as she wants live but she will never get close to the emotion in the studio. We've all seen the making of My Love and she is close to devastated while recording. The live version seems too put on. And the last part, my favourite part, lacks the power it should have. In the recording she wails the last part as if her heart is being torn out. "Could you see, I could break, did you notice all my mistakes?" The live version just falls flat in my opinion. I think it's too bad that she felt the need to change such a beautiful song to add to her new collection. The original was produced by the incredible Linda Perry and should be left alone. Or even better, release that as a single. Now, I have only heard bootlegs of My Love so it might be different when I see her live next month. It's still the song I'm most excited to hear. I love it so much and I just hope that my live experience of it will be better than I expect it to be. Drew P.S: Totally off topic but I figured I could throw this in because I did devote 20 minutes to writing about Celine. Anyone interested in Tina Turner should check out her new song. Her voice sounds incredible for 68. It's called I'm Ready and was written by Pat Monahan, the lead singer of Train. Quote
sayyed Posted September 21, 2008 at 08:36 AM Posted September 21, 2008 at 08:36 AM I agree. D'Elles is one of the best albums past-hiatus. BUT - commercialy it's gone the same way as TCH... 1st single - album - radio single - rubbish ..... (ESNRQ - D'Elles - Immensité - ...)(TCH - TCH - EOM/Alone - ...) browseceline Posted September 21, 2008 at 09:38 AM Posted September 21, 2008 at 09:38 AM (edited) listen to the Amsterdam recording. So much more emotional and the echoing sound you hear in the Amsterdam Arena gives the song a more life experience then the Jerry Lewis one which sounds too crisp with almost no more echo in it. As if it is a clean studioversion.. and about the studioversion on the taking chances cd; the song is in my opinion too fast, when it would have been recorded like the live version the song would have more grace and emotion. By the way, the "did you know{" background vocals remind me of a song of Elton John, I don't know which one anymore but the first time I heard the TC My love it reminded me of a certain Elton John song which has somewhat the same part in it . And that is the case so much new songs. They are introduced to be something new but they always seem to have something borrowed from other songs But I like My Love very much but they should have released Can't fight the Feeling or World to Believe in or Surprise Surprise for instance:-) Edited September 21, 2008 at 09:48 AM by browseceline Quote <iframe width="640" height="390" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hl2XkxnYljg" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Black Kitten Posted September 21, 2008 at 02:35 PM Posted September 21, 2008 at 02:35 PM my goodness so what's the sense of the live version in the compilation if they will stick to the studio version from the album "everybody is talking about, except celine and sony"? i have nothing against the studio version, as it is one of her best songs on TC, but they should've released it during TC's peak. (it's as if it enjoyed the peak it deserved) i don't want to repeat myself over and over again, but my dear god! ok i will stop. Quote

The echoes in the arena gave me chills! (even for MHWGO lol)I believe the Amsterdam one is one of the best live versions of 'My Love'... Maybe they wanted not to show to the non-fans the Celine's crying, cos' the non-fans and specially the Celine detractors would acusse her of overacting... ...I believe this since Celine didn't cry in this version, even though it was so emotional anyways.
