an excerpt from Janet's recent teleconference with select music bloggers to promote her tour as reported in hip-hop blog SOHH.com and janet-xone.com:

 

When asked what her next single would be, Janet replied:

"That's pretty difficult to say, only because of the record label at this point. We started off with "Feedback" and the label and myself haven't quite seen eye to eye since the "Feedback" single so they've kind of basically stopped all promotion. I'm trying to figure out a way to say this, but just to say it and to be quite honest, they just stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album so I don't think you're going to hear another single off this album."

 

this is really sad. i feel bad for janet. she should have extended her contract to Virgin!

I think she already released 3 singles, right?well for a flop album they are enough! then it is not true she has no promo, 2 weeks ago she was on ellen but nothing changed so it's normal there will be no promo anymore by now

Can you imagine Celine complaining about promotion like Janet does?? That would be the day.

 

Well, dhena, you can't really begrudge the decision of the label to drop Discipline. It was promoted heavily but spectacularly failed. They could've kept trying but times are very hard for the recording industry. If anyone doesn't respect Celine's ability to sell an album w/o any push from her label, I'd say he's off his rocker.

Okay, now, here comes this unconfirmed report that Janet wants to get out of her deal with Def Jam. Live Nation will buy out her contract and sign her up BUT on the condition that her upcoming tour has to reach a certain amount in gross earnings (I don't know about you but Manuel thinks that deciding amount is upwards of $100M).

It's just my hunch, dhena. The required amount could be lower since her album deal w/IDJ "isn't that big".

 

I hope Celine sends feelers to Live Nation. It will welcome her w/ wide open arms given her Vegas track record and this huge world tour.

Janet Jackson Dissatified with New Album Promo

 

Janet Jackson has aired her frustrations with Island Def Jam, whom she claims is no longer supporting her label debut, "Discipline." The album has sold 392,000 copies in the United States since its February release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

 

Jackson told SOHH.com that Island has discontinued promoting

"Discipline" and she will not release any more singles from the album. Her

second single, "Rock With U," failed to chart and her third single, "LUV,"

peaked at No. 34 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

 

The first single released from the new album, "Feedback," reached No. 39.

 

 

In a statement released exclusively to Billboard, an Island Def Jam spokesperson says, "Unfortunately we haven't experienced the results we would have liked with this new album. But we respect and support Janet."

LUV is slowly gaining airplay here and is currently charting in some radio stations. almost all the reviews i've heard/read are very enthusiastic. true enough. the song is quite infectious and possibly, her best song in years (yes this is the best song off Discipline). i wish the people will give JJ a chance. there's no other female artist can bring a hot dance track to the table the way JJ does. she's phenomenal!
