The only french thing we got was a french song (which got deleted by most of the countries for commercial needs)We also got a "Bienvenoue mes amis", than a "meurci" And the president of the olympics spoke in french for about a minute, only because he was obliged since French is the official Olympic language (where ever the Olympics are)The rest of the night was entirely in english No respect for Canadians French speakers. zuv Posted February 28, 2010 at 03:37 PM Posted February 28, 2010 at 03:37 PM I know its more important to focus on our athletes at this time, and i do. I've been asked a question and i answered it. OH please.... funny that you came up with Montreal Olympics of 1976, because every single word said in French got translated into English. I wasn't born at this time, but i've been told by others, and even journalist confirmed it. Thats why no one complained lollBut are you even from Quebec? No. So who are you to say that we weren't ignored at the opening Ceremonies? Do you even read newspapers from here? Or even watch tv from here. Prolly not. It became a big DEAL here, and its still is. They talked about it a lot the 1st week and even now they still talk about it... (and Lou555 or other quebecers from the forum could confirm that to you)And who cares if Vancouver speaks mostly English? The 2 official languages in Canada are French and English. We are one country. It was the biggest opportunity to show to the world that Canada has 2 different language and that they are proud of it. The next Olympics will be in Rio de Janeiro. You think they will not speak Portuguese because most countries understand more English? Let me laugh. And please don't mix apples and Oranges. The public signs and announcements of every day life have nothing to do with what we are discussing. I'm not expecting to read french everywhere i go in Canada. I'm not expecting to be answered in French anywhere else than Quebec either. But if you want to be served in English in Quebec, there's no problem there But when a Olympic Opening Ceremonies are held in Canada for the entire world to watch and that Quebec paid there part on that 38 millions dollars night, i think Quebec is allowed to expect some recognition, that Canada is a billingual Nation and that we are proud of our 10 provinces and different languages. Look lindsey, i'm not making that up. I'm not trying to convince you either. Even René was shock about the lack of French. They tried to have Celine for the closing ceremonies to make it up for their mistake. Even the prime minister was sorry and tried to reach René so that Celine come to sing. Don,t bother again to reply to me that i'm playing the poor victim again... i'll just ignore, i'm done discussing this subject, and if you still can't understand my point, well so be it. Quote

zuv Posted February 28, 2010 at 09:44 PM Posted February 28, 2010 at 09:44 PM My "american tourist family" like you said, could have been any where else from Canada, and it would have been the same story.lolll i can't believe you complain because you speak english and live in Quebec and feel ignored . If i want to get served in French in Victoria BC, I can dream about it. Its totally different here in Quebec, we serve both in French and English. If i were to live in Calgary, i wouldn't complain or feel ignored because there's total absence of French there. I would adapt to where i live! Its Canada's Olympics not British Columbia's Olympics LOL sorry Koolan I had to answer this one... but anyway, i think its a dead end with her and that she will always be rigth no matter what people say But to answer to everyone else who still think that Celine will performe....unless rené contradicts himself, Celine wont sing at the closing Ceremonies. He said it to a journalist. Quote
Lou555 Posted February 28, 2010 at 10:16 PM Posted February 28, 2010 at 10:16 PM (edited) I agree, I'm sure Céline won't be there either. She's been asked more than a year ago, they said no cuz she thought and hoped she would be pregnant at this time. Than we all know, she's on her fifth try now. She has other more important priorities now and I wish those organizers who have asked René ten times already would understand and leave them alone. Being asked or chosing to perform(or not) on those ceremonies is usually not something done at the last minute anyways. It has to be recorded, there are rehearsals....it's very different then being on Oprah or Larry King like some already said. Céline and René always gave the same answer when asked and it was no, not this time. Anything else is just rumours or for marketing purposes... It's not a thing that one decides a couple of days before the events anyways....eventhough they have invited Annie Villeneuve and Nicky Y. to record again on Friday, during the night(no sleep), another new version of their "I believe"(Nicky) - "J'imagine"(Annie) song and make a mix of both english and french versions with new images for the song to air in english (and french) tonight during their showing of a clip of Olympic Winners I think... and so it could be a bilingual one for the closing ceremonies. I watched Annie Villeneuve on tv who was very disapointed not being part of the closing ceremonies days earlier just arriving in Vancouver and talking about it on RDS on Friday. So I guess there are still last minute decisions being made but this is a taped audio only thing with no performances. And it took many hours of their time so...Rochette was also ask today to bring the Canadian flag into the stadium for Canada. But a Céline performance tonight won't be one of them I dont' think. Hope Céline is pregnant and especially taking care of herself and her family life right now. I'm behind Céline and René's choice 100% percent. And Pyb, rendez-vous in 2020 for Québec City Winter Olympic Games maybe! Edited February 28, 2010 at 11:00 PM by Lou555 Quote

lindsey22 Posted February 28, 2010 at 11:19 PM Posted February 28, 2010 at 11:19 PM honestly i dont want her to be there. i want her to get herself pregnant and take care of herself. they always love to critisize her calling her corny etc, but then when they need her for ratings they call on her. remeber how they treated her in halifax and rene cancelled.
