I would die if she put her version of Where are You Christmas on this new album.

 

Yeah a lot of fans are talking about that song. I'm not sure if I want that cause I just don't like the song but hey... if she has a recorded version of it from 1994 I would love to hear it.

 

I hope she does her version of WAYC cause she co-wrote it with James Horner&Will Jennings back in 2000'

The reason why she did not sing it was it wasn't for Columbia-Sony Movies but Universal' and Thomas Mottola

had a hand in this and the song was instead recorded by Faith Hill.

If Mariah albums sales were ''good'' then explain why Celine's Taking Chances outsold both E=MC2 and Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel combined together.

 

Oh and btw, the only reason why Mariah wouldn't sing a Celine's song is because she perfectly knows her rendition would suck vocally in comparison to Celine's version. Mariah is way too vain and fearful to attempt to cover a song from a big divas like Celine.

I disagree. While you may be right with Mariah's current vocal condition, she could have easily have done any Celine song back from 1990-1996. But even though Mariah is a studio artist now, she could still do a Celine song for that very reason....there is enough stuff they can do in the studio to make it sound decent.

 

All this Mariah vs. Celine stuff is a bit annoying. The only thing in my opinion (which will probably be hated by many) that Celine has on Mariah in terms of vocals, is holding long notes. Everytime Mariah tries to hold a note longer than 3 seconds it is a disaster. That is live. In studio, she doesn't have a problem with it.

 

Everything else is either too close to call or won by Mariah. They both have different strengths, weaknesses, and techniques. Listen to their songs. The things Celine does in her songs wouldn't sound right in a Mariah song. And vice versa....Mariah is more likely to sing an entire verse in the upper fifth octave chest range (Honey, Subtle Invitation...) whereas Celine is more likely to end a bridge or song with a long note...

 

Comparisons between two singers like Mariah and Celine can't work well just because of how different they are. Same can be said for Leona and Mariah or Leona and Celine....Leona relies heavily on her head voice.

Just FYI, Don't save it all for christmas day isn't like The christmas song [chestnuts on an open fire]. It's a personal song Celine co-wrote on her album; and the first time, most people heard of it [the ones that didn't buy the christmas album of Celine] was on the Disney christmas parade special in 2009 [ that's the only time she sang it "live" so to speak] . Most people don't even know the song; it's not that popular or known for non-celine-fans.

Some never really get tired of it, or just don't have anything better to do than pit one artist against the other. A fan may like a certain artist whereas another may like another one, and this is called preference and personal taste in music.

So there were no covers on her first two albums.

Then she sang I'll Be There at her Unplugged concert.

Sort of by 'accident'. She didn't want to at first, but someone suggested she should do one cover.

Mariah, thinking it would only be this once, chose I'll Be There, never knowing it would be released as a single and become a #1 hit.

 

But when it did, SONY insisted she'd do more covers and Mariah changed her mind.

So she recorded Without You and it became her biggest European hit ever.

 

With Luther Vandross (who recorded a complete album with covers titled Songs) she sang Endless Love.

 

For Daydream she recorded Open Arms which was released as a single in Europe.

 

For Butterfly she chose for The Beautiful Ones.

 

The #1's album came more or less out of the blue for Mariah. She had recorded When You Believe (an original song, but not written by Mariah) with Whitney for the Prince of Egypt movie.

JD wanted her on his album. He asked her to write a song, but Mariah didn't have enough time and so she did a cover of Sweetheart with him.

SONY didn't want those songs to go to 'waste' and urged Mariah to release a #1's album with some new songs, so those two could be included on a Mariah album as a bonus.

It was all kind of in a hurry, so instead of writing new songs Mariah did two more covers: I Still Believe and Do You Know Where You're Going To.

 

Rainbow was next with the cover Against All Odds. Again, it got special attention in Europe as it was released as a duet with Westlife in the UK.

 

For Glitter Mariah did two covers: Didn't Mean To Turn You On and Last Night A DJ Saved My Life.

 

Charmbracelet gave us another one: Bringin' On The Heartbreak which was released in only a few (European) countries.

 

The Emancipation of Mimi didn't have any covers. Neither did E=MC².

 

But for Memoirs there was a new cover: I Want To Know What Love Is which was huge in Brazil.

 

Mariah has also sung some covers during live performances.
