Celine's comeback to Las Vegas - March 2011

I agree with what Claudette is saying...make the "majority" of the people happy, and unfortunately, the super fans like us are not the majority. But I agree with what Lymon is saying too: MHWGO and BYLM are the only songs absolutely 100% necessary.

Songs like Where Does My Heart Beat Now, Beauty And The Beast, and If You Asked Me To were hits just as much as To Love You More, It's All Coming Back To Me Now, and The Power Of Love.

When you replace TPOL, IACBTMN, and TLYM with BATB, WDMHBN, and IYAMT...remove a few covers (example: Man's World, World On String, I Wish, etc those songs..) you can add in others like Calling You, Only One Road, Nothing Broken But My Heart....These songs may not be big hits by Celine (but they are still somewhat well known and popular by her, and surely more popular then IAMW, IGTWOAS, IW). A fan is more likely to come to the show if there favorite song, say Only One Road, is being performed...then they are if they hear a new cover, say It's A Man's World...is being performed and has a few high notes....(although I personally prefer IAMW, think about the average fan: they are more likely to be familar with an old hit from her prime time then they are a cover).

Or instead of addings those you can just choose not to remove TPOL or IACBTMN or TLYM....

There are plenty of options they have with the set list. But when you look at the FINAL vegas set list, and compare it to the tour set list....you swapped out a few covers and replaced them with a LARGE amount of covers...you replaced ANDHC/SeducesMe with I'm Your Angel/The Prayer. That's about it. Oh, and they added a few songs from the TC album (which they should have).

All except for 4 of her Vegas Tour songs were in the TC Tour.

I agree. The TC setlist was too similar to Vegas, but I believe Celine's team thought, if these songs worked in Vegas, then they'll work on a world tour. To the average fan the setlist was perfect, as it had all her hits, a couple of new songs, and a few covers. It was like a greatest hits tour.

Now I believe it's time for Celine to move on. I believe her playback tracks for TPOL and TLYM should not be used anymore. They have been used for almost 15 years now, which is far too long. Since the early 90s her voice has changed so much. I can't stand watching TPOL performances from the TC tour because her voice is so different and nasally at the start, and then suddenly it's really clear and high pitched vocals from 1994! It's so obvious nowadays...

I understand that most people will see the show just to see Celine sing her hits. Well, I believe Celine's band should re-arrange the music so that it's very basic, like the LTAL tour acoustic medley. That way Celine can sing her hit without having to sing big songs really powerfully and hurt her voice.

I think a big problem with the tracks for TPOL, TLYM etc is that Celine puts barely any effort into making them seem realistic. If you watch her performing TPOL on the TC tour, she just stands there and makes it look effortless. She makes it look too easy! Even the biggest and hardest notes come from her mouth as if she was singing a lullaby. Compare it to a performance from 10 years ago, at least it looks as if she's having to work hard to belt those notes out. Ditch the tracks for once and for all, Celine!!!

OMG Davey you read my mind! That is what i was thinking as i was reading this thread.

I do understand that those are some of her biggest hits, but look at Barbra for example: her biggest hit, woman in love, is never sung in her concerts, and still her concerts sell out in less than an hour! So it is time for Celine to remove those songs from her setlists (she could use them in future tours, like 15 years from now) or just rearrange them for God's sake and stop using those d*** playback tracks! I hate it when others say she does that, but it is true and unless she wants to end up being thought of like Mariah, I suggest her team start changing their plans!

I love reading people's ideas for setlists or staging or outfits etc. Songs yes, but not about lipping or prerecorded tracks etc. We all know Rene etc take more notice of this forum than the official one. :giggle: I've said it before, i'll say it again - lets keep it positive and fresh and exciting - not repetitive and boring like it is. The last thread i read people were going on about lipping etc, and now i read it on this one. Shame. :confused:

You answered your own question Darren, there is nowhere else to talk about it.

Dedicated topics get closed pretty much straight away, and since people do want to talk about it topics end up going off course. Usually things end up in arguments because a select group of fans won't entertain the idea that any part of Celine's shows are pre-recorded and certain other fans almost seem to feel the need to open their eyes, so it was decided to try and limit the conversations about it to keep the peace and try and keep topics on course. But as it's part of Celine's career and part of her shows, fans want to talk about it anyway and it ends up creeping up into any old topic. But there's a difference between discussing it and arguing about it. There is NO harm in discussing it, this is a forum designed for that purpose and if someone doesn't believe it then they are free to skip these posts and talk about something else - which is why if it had it's own topic it would be easier for people to ignore. The fact it crops up in the middle of any old topic is what annoys people, as you say. Topics will of course meandre slightly from the original theme now and again but usually they will find their way back, with moderator assistance in some cases. lol

I'm sure the admins will review the policy and make adjustments if required.

I, too, think there should be a "track" thread, but there should be specific rules, like no mentioning lipping or anything in any other thread aside from it's dedicated thread. I'd be perfectly happy to abide by whatever rules, and as meantioned, not having a designated topic tends to lead to sparatic talking about said issue, as it's not confined to a "home". That's what I try and do on my forum. [not a celine forum]

Well that part I agree with, I'd like there to be a thread about it, but it would be hard to have a thread like that. There was a thread like that last year in the tour section. and it got very out of hand. It would be very hard to moderate, also. But on the other hand, restricting talking about it is basically restricting talk about a huge part of Celine's career. So it's a tough call on both sides.

Yes, somebody please do something about this lipping thing! Every topic on this forum is turning into a lipping discussion. Actually, why do we even need a topic for lipping? I don't understand why people still feel the need to discuss this. She's been doing it since forever and we know she does it so what more is there to discuss. Us discussing it is not going to change the fact that she does it. That kind of discussions only lead to unnecessary conflict. People will never agree on what she lips and what not. So why do we need to discuss it. I say everybody should just keep their opinions on this particular subject to themselves. I am so sick of watching a DVD/video and concentrating so hard to try and figure out if she lips or not because someone on here said that she does. It takes the fun out of it. I want to watch the DVD/video and enjoy Celine and not think about this lipping thing. If there is one reason I regret becoming a member of this forum, it is exactly this lipping discussions. I really miss just enjoying Celine for the amazing singer and person she is... :cry:

Oh, and I just want to add something else. People can now get mad at for saying this but I don't care. The people that are complaining about this lipping thing are the same people always complaining about the promotion thing. But writing crap about Celine in every topic on this forum sure as hell is not helping to promote Celine or this forum. Sure, she lips a few songs. But who cares. She still sings 80% - 90% of the show live, unlike some other artists.

P.S Just today I realized again what a great performer Celine really is and how much she cares for her fans. Right now I have a similar respiratory infection that Celine had in Novemer last year and I can't even talk or laugh without coughing. Basically I feel like crap. I don't know how Celine finished all those shows that she did while she was sick. She really is a trouper!

There are plenty of things on the forum people don't agree upon. A forum is a place to discuss a variety of topics and state your opinion. As long as people don't get bent out of shape and argue about it, it shouldn't be a problem. But a discussion, or even a debate is nothing bad. I agree completely with you and Darren on this... I must confess I was the typical fan/forumer discussing the lipsynch subject on every topic that was becoming a miming one (specially in the Spanish section) ... But just 'til I started to get upset and bored every time I read something about that, and since then (a long time ago) I've always thought the same way Tyler, Darren and others do... it would be fantastic to have a topic to discuss ONLY the lipsynch thing, so all the other topics get dried from that subject, and every one who would like to talk about that, coud talk about that. (including Darren or Tyler or myself for example, who are purposing the new topic, could enter it too to discuss something miming-related if we want... why not?) But just in only 1 topic, please!

I bet Koolan and Bellamy are already busy choosing which posts would be removed from every not-playback-ish topic to create the new one. And if not, at least I'm sure they will take our words into consideration. :thumbsup2:

I feel that compared to others who sometimes sound like a broken record, I rarely discuss lipping on here. I mention it, if it's the topic of something I want to reply to, but I don't bring it up out of the blue. The reason[lol] we need a specific topic for it, is because no matter what there will always be that discussion, and this way it wont snowball into every damn thread! No matter if everyone who ever spoke a word of this on the forum was deleted, in the future it'll be brought up again, that's just how people work, they are curious and want to talk about it. I don't fault Celine for it, I would like to point that out. I also think it is a generally good idea, because C'MON how rediculous is this, seriously? It's everywhere. I'm getting burnt out by it! And if people don't wanna read about it, or talk about it, they shouldn't stumble on it as it will be confined to a specific thread! Seems so simple. xx Claudette. I hope you understand.

I agree. Right now there are people who do not want to have anything to do with these sorts of discussions and they are FORCED to read these playback related posts because every topic they go into the hot topic is playback...

there is no harm in saying it once in a while without having a negative or evil plan behind that. it is just expressing some frustration about the greatest singer ever doing this thing that we will not mention. it doesn't need its own topic, because then it would get a lot more attention than it needs. and those who hate it when we mention it (in my case once in a blue moon), just don't comment on them anymore because you too are helping in extending the conversation about that topic! and no need for anyone to say any bad words, just keep on reading and ignore the messages that don't interest you.

if i annoyed anyone, i am sorry (Darren i guess cause your post came after mine). last thing i wanted to do was to piss anyone off. it is just that this is the only place i can let out any complaint without causing harm. you won't find me doing that at another forum cause i would never compromise celine's reputation... hope that explained a bit why i mentioned the thing, because i am normally against such discussions and i am completely against a topic being opened because then when outside people enter the website and they see a topic just for that, they will directly enter that topic and go to their forums to spread bad things about our celine to try and show that their artist is better or whatever, and it is not true!

Yes, but it has gotten to the point that it's no longer "once in awhile." This is an everyday thing with the same 3-5 topics being hijacked (as this one has).

Technically speaking, the stuff posted in the topic MAY be slightly negative (although some of you have had no problem with it saying it's not negative that she lip syncs, so I don't know.....) but for the most part anything that is a LIE in there will be shot down and proved wrong.

P.S. - Did any of you know I want to be a lawyer? LOL....It's true.
