Bambam Posted November 11, 2007 at 05:47 PM Posted November 11, 2007 at 05:47 PM I think that if the album is selling well in the first week ( something like top 5), radio stations will start to play the song more. Quote
Shaun Posted November 11, 2007 at 05:50 PM Posted November 11, 2007 at 05:50 PM #40 is a poor position in the UK charts these days. If you think even "Goodbye's The Saddest Word" charted higher. Never mind, roll on the next single. Quote Bringing you the world's only Celine Dion podcast show since 2014.Find us on Soundcloud, Apple Podcasts, Spotify & Amazon Music.
PopMusicBoy Posted November 11, 2007 at 06:33 PM Posted November 11, 2007 at 06:33 PM Looks like she'll be #73 on the Pop chart this week. Quote
dlh1 Posted November 11, 2007 at 07:05 PM Posted November 11, 2007 at 07:05 PM I actually think that no.40 is quite good. Considering it was only released on downloads on itunes 2 weeks ago, it's done really well. If SONY had released a hard copy of it im sure it would have made top 10 as you only need to sell a few thousand copies to make it into top 10 these days. Quote
Shaun Posted November 11, 2007 at 07:32 PM Posted November 11, 2007 at 07:32 PM I'm sorry and I genuinely don't mean to be negative but I am not at all happy with a #40 chart position in the UK. Even the 3rd and 4th singles from previous Celine albums from Celine have charted higher than that. This is the first single from the highly anticipated new album. Now, Sony are partly due to blame (where is Celine on the UK Sony website? / lack of physical single etc) but to be honest Taking Chances got huge promo all this week on Radio 2 and along with the appearance on Saturday Night Divas last weekend it's difficult not to be disappointed with number 40. As stated elsewhere The Spice Girls and Kylie both managed to get into the Top 20 on downloads alone, so it can be done. 10 years ago Celine competed with both of those artists in the singles charts and was regularly in the Top 10 in the UK and although the music market has changed it's worth remembering that it has changed for everyone, yet they still get good chart positions for their singles. Just what does Celine have to do? Quote Bringing you the world's only Celine Dion podcast show since 2014.Find us on Soundcloud, Apple Podcasts, Spotify & Amazon Music.
boyblackuk Posted November 11, 2007 at 07:49 PM Posted November 11, 2007 at 07:49 PM In the UK people only see Celine as she used to be and deleting the single did not help but in her defense the Spice Girls (in the UK certainly) are having the biggest comeback ever and Kylie (MUCH loved here) will always do better than everyone else. Number 40 on downloads is good and without a physical single we wont get much more than that. What we do need to remeber is this is the first time Celine has released a song under the current download rules and she has done ok. Some of our bigger artists of the music scene now in the UK havent even got in the Top 40 on downloads only and onlt when released as a physical single did it enter high in the charts Quote
LuisMa Posted November 11, 2007 at 08:27 PM Posted November 11, 2007 at 08:27 PM Hi! I wonder if anyone has ever come up with this tip, but here it is:If you go to http://w2.mediabase.com/mmrweb/AllAccess/C....asp?format=a2Myou will have a look at the top 30 Hot AC hits for this week according to what's played on the Hot AC format in the USA, which is updated daily. In this format Celine has not reached the top 30 yet, but how is "Taking Chances" doing here? All you have to do is type &showtopn=100 at the end of the website address, so it looks like this http://w2.mediabase.com/mmrweb/AllAccess/C...mp;showtopn=100and voilà, you will find now the Top 100 songs for that format. Celine is at number 66, as you will see, moving up two places and gaining ten spins. If you want to check other charts, this same trick will do. Just type &showtopn=100 at the end of the URL and you'll have it. Also, if you want more than 100 positions, just type the number you want after the = sign. Hope this will be helpful to find out about Celine and other favorite artists' progress on the radio charts. Quote
Shamrock_1982 Posted November 11, 2007 at 08:44 PM Posted November 11, 2007 at 08:44 PM i honestly think if we had a short tv advert shown over the past week of the single, and info. on where and how to download it, that would have helped...but i think it will shoot up the charts now that the album ads have started on tv and a few of 2days papers...have faith Quote
salsacolin Posted November 11, 2007 at 09:25 PM Posted November 11, 2007 at 09:25 PM (edited) yeah At least being number 40 it will be played on all the countdowns on music channels etc so its guaranteed more spins and surely all the locals played it tonight. its disappointing but sony really should have had the single available for download the Sunday after X factor - that was a huge waste - with it being front page on itunes website plus a wee short TV ad for the single would have really helped. They may have been saving the budget for album TV ad's but a higher charting single really helps the album anyway so its not money wasted. I cannot believe they didnt release the single for downloads the day after x factor but the plan at that time was to have a physical release. I always think, in my experience, that any delays or cancellations just mess things up. There is a date for release that should be stuck to unless something unforeseen happens. There is no way sony would have lost money releasing the physical they only need to release a few thousand now and it would have made all the difference just having the CD in stores, on release lists etc. Loads of people still go to shops to buy CD's especially celine fans cos a lot of them are older and if they heard it was out would go and buy it Well lets hope it shoots up next week Edited November 11, 2007 at 09:26 PM by salsacolin Quote I never even knew the song the orchestra was playing........ Hilda Posted November 11, 2007 at 10:53 PM Posted November 11, 2007 at 10:53 PM deffo - thoughts about number 40 = i think its a minor miracle considering the cock up surrounding this release- downloads only (which is a market that she hasnt been promoted too, she was promoted to cd buying audiences on tv - older) i think its done well. Its not the end yet though - who knows what could happen haha Quote
Shaun Posted November 11, 2007 at 11:57 PM Posted November 11, 2007 at 11:57 PM Other US superstars aren't faring so well, most notably Kanye West who it seems has now become an albums act. Whilst 'Stronger' was a Number One hit, followup single 'Good Life' has struggled. Its download sales peaked at Number 33, the single last week dropping out of the Top 40 altogether. Physical sales propel it back, but only as far as Number 23. To that list you can also add a Canadian - Celine Dion. Absent from the charts since 2003, the stage was set for her return to recording with brand new single 'Taking Chances'. Even a performance on the X-Factor hasn't made this one catch fire sadly, and after charting at Number 58 last week despite a physical release it limps to Number 40 from where it looks set to progress no further. Yahoo UK Charts Commentary But obviously we all know there has been NO DAMN PHYSICAL RELEASE thanks to Sony UK!!!!! Ronny83 Posted November 12, 2007 at 07:35 PM Posted November 12, 2007 at 07:35 PM The single is down to #8 (from #5) in Italy this week. It's a good result if you compare it to IDAN that made #14 - #30. Quote The Celine Dion Italian fanbase - CelineDionItalia.com
Shaun Posted November 12, 2007 at 07:50 PM Posted November 12, 2007 at 07:50 PM Just had confirmation that Celine sold just under 3500 downloads of "Taking Chances" to reach #40 in the UK this week. To give you some comparison, The Spice Girls sold just over 7000 to get to #20, Kylie just over 9000 to get to #12 and the act at number 10 sold just over 16,000. The charts are so close in the UK. It's such a shame, with a physical CD release Celine could've done really well. I agree - many older people don't have mp3 players etc. I was out looking for it on the 29th October but nobody seemed to know what was going on. Of course, we now know it was cancelled. I've since got a copy from Germany so even if they did release it here, I wouldn't buy it unless there was a different tracklisting.
