They should just pay the money they owe to everybody, its not like they cant afford it. Its her firms fault, they should be seeing to all that kind of thing. But that doesn't matter. A lien (which is essentially the right to take another's property if an obligation is not met) can be placed on any substantially completed project. The fact that the home is nearly finished gave the contractors the right to place the lien on the home. However, the news outlets should be keen to point out that it is the developer who possibly is at fault, not Dion or Angelil. It's also interesting that the money the contractor wants is far less than what Celine and Rene will pay in annual taxes.

If so, that's the reason he wasn't paid. He wouldn't complete the job that he was hired to do.

Yeah, but if that were true, his argument now would be null and void. he wouldn't have the right to ask for compensation. Also, the home wasn't even close to finished, then.

It's not that they are forgetting to pay the outstanding amount or that the developer is neglecting to pay the outstanding amount. It's exactly how I said... don't pay a contractor until you are sure that their work is satisfactory. If you pay them and then you find fault with their work then they won't bother coming back to rectify the problem. I know people that build multi-million dollar properties (in South Florida) and they explained the process to me. And yes the outstanding amount is less than their annual taxes but, so what? Just because they are rich are they supposed to let people walk all over them? It doesn't matter if the amount is only $1,000... don't pay up unless you're sure the work has been done properly whether you're a near billionaire or you just make $50 thousand dollars a year... the principle is the same.

He is suppose to pay everybody. But because the whole project is not finished, he can't get his money, so he can't pay some of the workers that are already done with their parts. That too. It's subcontractors who are placing liens. Now, of course Celine & Rene could pay up to avoid their names being put in stories like this on the news and in the newspapers, but why should they? Everyone will be paid their money in due course and the media are just being morons about the whole process.

I understand that, but to be completely blunt, I could care less of what happens to the developer. After all, it's them who will have to pay the $28,000. If it's discovered that they didn't pay the contractor fully, then they are obligated to pay, by law. The only way that Celine or Rene could be affected is that their home could be foreclosed upon (which wouldn't be exactly a new thing in the state of Florida). Also, we have no clue if the work was satisfactory or not. It wasn't mentioned in the news sources, and we probably won't know unless either the contractor or developer speak about it. Lastly, I was just making a seperate point about the taxes...there was no real connection to that statement and the actual issue of the lien. The news source stated it, and I thought to point out the fact that taxes on $20 million homes are amazingly pricey. That's all.

they are making a big deal out of this because of the extravagant waterpark/home Celine has built. She has spent tons and tons of money on this house and typically yes celeb houses are usually big and flashy and expensive but most dont build this huge huge pool and lazy river and waterslides. Bunch of new pics, I think these were taken in June around the 23rd according to what I can find on the site.

This is Celine Dion's sprawling $20m mansion which includes her very own water park. Dion, who is currently pregnant with twins, has now completed the child friendly back yard which includes two swimming pools, a lazy-river, rope bridge water slides and fire pit. The water park reportedly uses 500,000 gallons of water and the singer has built 6 wells on her property which will be used to store the 6.5 million gallons of water needed to keep it all afloat. Dion shares the home with her 9 year old son Rene Charles and husband Rene Angelil.
