LuisMa Posted December 29, 2012 at 05:52 PM Posted December 29, 2012 at 05:52 PM I'm so sleepy, and it's only 7 PM.
Bell Posted December 29, 2012 at 05:58 PM Posted December 29, 2012 at 05:58 PM And this is the most important meal for New Year's Eve. We call it баница. It's made of dough, cheese and oil/butter. Usually the oldest woman in the house makes it in a round baking dish. It has New Year's lucks on it. They are actually tiny branches of cornel-tree and each one has a different number of buds. The woman who makes it decides what every branch means. For example, the one with 4 buds is health, the one with 5 buds is money, etc., so she can recognise them later. The number of pieces of баница, each one with a small branch on it, matches the number of the family members. Then she bakes it. Later, when everybody gathers around the table, the oldest person turns the baking dish with баница 3 times clockwise. The piece in front of you is yours along with luck it brings (most common lucks are of course health, money, success, love but you can also include new car, trip, marriage or whatever you want). This is when the housewife says what every small branch means. This is how New Year's Eve usually begins. We don't make баница only for New Year's Eve. it's a traditional Bulgarian meal, we usually have it for breakfast and it's good with yogurt. 1 16 YEARS A FORUM MEMBER

LuisMa Posted December 29, 2012 at 06:01 PM Posted December 29, 2012 at 06:01 PM That dish looks good!
Bell Posted December 29, 2012 at 06:05 PM Posted December 29, 2012 at 06:05 PM (edited) And it tastes good. If you like to mix tastes, you can sprinkle it with sugar. Some people do but I don't really like the combination. My Grandma says that when she was a kid only rich people could afford to add sugar 'cause it was very expensive back then. LuisMa Posted December 29, 2012 at 06:07 PM Posted December 29, 2012 at 06:07 PM I like mixing tastes, like when I go to Taco Bell and eat my cinnamon twists with some cheddar cheese.
Bell Posted December 29, 2012 at 06:22 PM Posted December 29, 2012 at 06:22 PM I'm leaving the forum now since my eyes seem to need some rest. I'm gonna listen to music until I go to bed. Have a nice evening everyone! 16 YEARS A FORUM MEMBER

LuisMa Posted December 30, 2012 at 01:29 PM Posted December 30, 2012 at 01:29 PM I do have a lot of plans. The other side of the story is whether I'll be able to carry on with them.
DionFanAlways Posted December 30, 2012 at 01:41 PM Posted December 30, 2012 at 01:41 PM It is Sunday Luis, you are allowed to rest! It is 0730 here, what time is it in Spain? I have had the time of my life following this woman! Much love.
Bell Posted December 30, 2012 at 01:42 PM Posted December 30, 2012 at 01:42 PM 9:20 PM went to sleep.9:40 PM got a phone call <_<Very unpleasant. Good night Bell, thanks for adding to the traditions portion of the forum! Looks good! I would love to try it one day.Another meal most Bulgarian families make for New Year's Eve is Turkish baklava, a sweet meal made of dough, nuts (we make it with wallnuts but as far as know the original recipe is with pistachio/peanuts), oil/butter and sugar syrup. 1 16 YEARS A FORUM MEMBER
Bell Posted December 30, 2012 at 01:50 PM Posted December 30, 2012 at 01:50 PM One more thing. Instead of dough for both baklava and баница you can use, let's say, sheets for lasagna. It's definitely easier and doesn't take so much time. 16 YEARS A FORUM MEMBER
LuisMa Posted December 30, 2012 at 02:00 PM Posted December 30, 2012 at 02:00 PM It is Sunday Luis, you are allowed to rest! It is 0730 here, what time is it in Spain? Well, not really time to rest today, as I've been lazy the past few days. And now that I have time to start my plannings, I feel motivated to start today. That's actually what I'm doing now. It's 3 o'clock here.
Bell Posted December 30, 2012 at 02:06 PM Posted December 30, 2012 at 02:06 PM I feel motivated At 3 PM? I admit I envy you. I'm lazy again...but I actually did a lot of things in the household today so now I guess I deserve to relax a little. 16 YEARS A FORUM MEMBER

LuisMa Posted December 30, 2012 at 05:44 PM Posted December 30, 2012 at 05:44 PM Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I messed up with a lot of data I was processing on this stupid spread sheet. I'll have to start over and it will be such a waste of time. And thank God I was feeling productive, or I would have thrown this thing out of the window. Here I go again...
Mrs.Goldman Posted December 30, 2012 at 07:58 PM Posted December 30, 2012 at 07:58 PM Bored................... :S http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/CallingYou/shadowoflovesig-1.jpg
LuisMa Posted December 30, 2012 at 08:20 PM Posted December 30, 2012 at 08:20 PM I'm extremely tired, and I'm still working on this damn thing. I would have finished hours ago, hadn't I made that mistake, but tomorrow I need to do other things, so I guess I'll stay up late. Thank God hubby comes back at 2:00 AM or I'd contaminate him with my stress.
