At this point I just think that keeping this song in the album or promoting it as a single, it will only bring bad luck. She needs to get rid of it the sooner the better, and move on to other songs, which surely are greater than this boring track!

I'd pee myself if the song does go ahead and every time the song was mentioned in promo, celine turns and looks directly into the camera and says "written by daniel merriweather BTW!"  Then carrys on talking to the interviewer.

true, but then maybe there would be more controversy by dropping the song. Interviewers would be like: "So you changed the title of the album and drop the song WAAF. please tell us why."

My comment posted on the official website to Celine's management response to comments from Daniel Merriweather:

If I were René and Celine I would drop the song and change the name of the album. This Daniel guy can't go away with murder and get royalties after what he did to Celine.

Maybe leak the song for everyone to hear Celine's fantastic interpretation of it and not allowing Daniel to get a single penny from it.

Also, there's a lesson to learn from this situation: if you are covering a song from another artist, make sure that artist is aware of it and OK with Celine covering it even if she doesn't mention the original artist in every single interview she does.

The statement was too nice towards Daniel. Please DROP the song, they don't have to tell us or Daniel I say they just re name the album and surprise us when the album comes out WIHOUT THE song. He doesn't derserve. Like Kara Diogaurdi said its like hitting the song writers jackpot when Celine decides to cut one of your songs. Celine named her album, world tour and lead single after TC and Kara really was flattered.

If you listen to the snippet of the song on the website, unless im hearing wrong i think Eg White is saying: "my instinct is that the view point of the song..." If Celine had written the song, they wouldnt be trying to understand and questioning the meaning of that song. Celine would just know it.

I did not like and could not understand from the beginning why in the world Celine would make cover of this song and NAME HER ALBUM AFTER COVER SONG???? I thought covering a song is one thing, but naming the album is not something I would do, especially after so long not releasing an English album.  What is this talk about writer's permission etc...did they just took the song and recorded it?

I like what I heard of water and a flame but I never did think it was single material.  Nice but it does not sound like a hit. I'd leave it on the album but no way in hell release it after this, especially.

This is not the first time a cover has been the title of the album... for example: Unison, Falling Into You, The Colour of My Love, Taking Chances

I am soo pissed off right now because how can this person "Merriweather crybaby" accuses Celine of stealing his own song right after he sees that she doesn't mention his name on a tv show? What the heck is that? We all know that she has never taken anything away from anyone. We also know that Celine definately give credit whenever its due to a person. She is humble like that and would never step on anybody else's toes. We have also known that this song was a cover to begin with so why the fuss. He was going to get  his recognition when the CD came out and his royalty checks. I feel really sad for Celine right now and how this person accused her of  doing such an unbelievable act is just wrong. How dare he.! CRYING BABY!!

I also believe that Celine should drop the song in total and get a better one. She don't need it anyway.

I have no clue to what is bothering him so much! its not as if Celine "steals" songs and makes them her own! she's much better than that! I think this might be good for her to start paying attention to her "own" new songs which will be hits - hopefully!

Thankfully Celine's management team response is now spreading around the net too but of course it's a much more interesting story to accuse Celine of "stealing" isn't it.  Frankly I'd be amazed if this song remains on the album or indeed the album title remains the same after this.  Are you honestly telling me from the thousands of songs the team receive each year there isn't one which can be picked to replace "Water and a Flame."

This story will NOT go away unless the song is dropped and the album title is changed.  Celine will be asked about this issue in all interviews, before and after all performances of the song and no doubt Daniel will have more "useful" comments nearer album release time.  For such a great songwriter he sure does have issues on how to conduct himself or express his opinion.

Daniel clearly isn't interested in the potentially millions of new fans (and money!) Celine including his song will bring him and, frankly, from what I've heard of the song already the album will be better off without it anyway.

Drop the song Sony, all this hassle just isn't worth it.

Oh please, Celine is NOT a songwriter!    She has never recorded a song written all by herself, so it's very unlikely that she would start now. If Celine had the ability to write great songs, she would have done it years ago in order to prove herself even more during the 90s. Fortunately for Celine, her voice alone was enough to make her a legend. Much like Barbra Streisand, Celine relies on great songwriters for hit songs.
