Since CÉLINE does not even write her songs, and professes this proudly, where on earth does this Not-So-Merry character get off accusing her of pretending to have written it, herself? I am confused...

What i think will happen, is that René will have pity of his inexperience and lack of professionalism  and will contact Daniel to see what's up with him and his bitching. Then René will make him issue a public apology to facebook and twitter or they will drop the song.

I'm not saying this just because I'm a massive fan of Celine, and she's my favourite artist - but mainly because its the truth: Daniel Merriweather might very well have just committed career suicide. You never, never, never attack someone of Celine's magnitude in such a public fashion and expect to get away with it. Her and Rene are probably the most powerful non-executive couple in the music industry, and at the click of fingers could stifle any future success Merriweather would like.

I'm glad that he sort of apologised by retweeting a Diane Warren comment about Celine bringing any song to life in the best possible way; I hope Rene does contact him and makes him apologise.

This is very interesting. Ok, if they decided to explain the situation to the guy but I think that the most important thing would be for Céline and her team to drop the song. Like that, he would get a clear message that what he did is just not acceptable.

Daniel was obviously aware of this and would have had to give some sort of permission for Celine to record his song in the first place!??
I just find this a little too convenient to happen when he has a new song to promote....wants attention drawn to it and sadly this seems like the only way he could think to do that.
At Least not alot of media are picking up on it.....but if nothing is done about it now, I'm afraid closer to album release he will kick off again and cause negative press for Celines album.

Believe me Rene will be on this asap.  Here in Halifax, NS (little city) a newpaper wrote some bad stuff about her doing an outdoor concert instead of it being a rock band.....ONE little newspaper and they pulled the entire show and it even made it all the way to Perez Hilton blogg how Haligonian's hated on Celine.  When really, she would of sold a lot of tickets, but because of the bad press Rene pulled the show before it even went on Sale.

He will be all over this.  I would be totally shocked if Water and a Flame is a single at this point...which is fine by me.

This is no controversy... until multiple major news (international) organizations report on this and report on this outside of an online format, then this is going nowhere. Nothing to sweat. I'm sure VERY few people know about this and are up in arms besides those on this forum.

Its generally just being reported by the Australian press at this stage, as Merriweather is Australian.

Which means I don't think this is a nail in the coffin. Merriweather isn't the most popular artist around, and as long as the crisis stays in Australian media then Celine is in no danger of needing to drop the song or change the name of the album IMO.

Moral of the story: Céline and René, stop using covers as the main appeal every time you put out an album or a new show, you don't need them and besides, they do nothing but trouble!

I don't agree with what this guy has done, but I think both of them need to learn a lesson out of this, because nothing of this would have happened if Céline had presented a new original song instead of this cover.
