So ridiculous!! The album is not even out yet.  I'm sure his name is going to appear in the credits of the album.  That's all we need to know.  Celine always thanks the wonderful writers who write for her etc... Sometimes she even gets annoying with that.  LOL...This guy is clearly looking for more attention from the media...

It is obvious that here have been a missunderstood.... Someone said Daniel that Celine have said the lyrics are hers (what it is stupid cause she never takes credit about that...) so it is normal that He got pissed off.. Error: Post it so quickly that you don't get informed by other people to get sure...
BUt common... don't try to hang the guy... He is soo talented and interesting artist. WAAF it is a really cool and personal song .
By the way.. he never insults Celine, He gets really confused about how someone like her want to steal a song... that's all... He said before that he was happy with the cover...
He should talk with Eg White.. he is the one important cause maybe he is not recieving any money from sony about this cover cause mr. White it's not playing good so that's unfair for Merriweather... But that's another problem about royalties...

And another thing... it is real that if I'm Merriweather and I see the Katie show... I would be soooo pissed off.. If I rite such a personal song... and then I have to listen the answer of "Where it comes from" and an old man says... you know... the opposites... and then Celine.. Yeah.. it's the name of the song...  They really sounds like silly and unprofessional.... it would be much better if they say " It's a really beutiful and personal duet between my beloved Adele and Daniel merriweather, the writer of the song...." If you don't know what to say... just make some wikipedia answer.. hehehehe...  but don't  answer like that...

This is negative publicity, but at least it IS publicity! But René would be wise to comment on this situation ASAP before it totally gets out of hand!

It's sad, cos it's giving me a negative feeling about this song, even though it's totally not needed. WAAF was a perfect title when they were going with the 50% Vegas/ 50% new songs idea, but not that concept has abandoned, maybe this song as the title track needs to be abandoned too...

While I think hes totally overacted and his fans are being mean I cant help but see his point, im sure that makes me unpopular but yeah the "there opposites" reply says it all. If youd written a song youd be upset too. Especially if it was so personal.

Put it this way,  celine sings fly about karine, imagine if she had written it, her most personal song,  and one direction did a cover. They showed a talk show and someone asked what is fly about, and they said "erm I dunno a bird"

Imagine how we as fans would react, and how celine would feel that everyone just thought the song was about a bird?  Why didnt rene just say well the person that wrote the song was speaking about..........

She did it with my love always said how linda perry had sent her a song about herself. She usually credits the writers, think about how many times she has said about carol king, georgemartin, james horner, the bee gees, diane warren, kara, dave stewart etc. She could have just mentioned she recieved a song by 2 great writers.

Its easy to look at this as celine fans but again put yourself in the place of them by imagining if one directin or smebody else did that to celine, i dont particularly like daniel merriweather, ive only heard his song red, but as a human being i can totally see where he is coming from, he wrote that song about somebody, it means something, and it is not about the opposites, and to say it is is sort of taking credit for the meaning of the song i.e the writing.

I dont think celine is in the wrong, and i do think he over reacted, im just saying that i can see why his first response was to be upset

I knew this would happen one day, these days spent in a special on TV dioguardi Kara and David A. Stewart, he commented that Celine recorded TC and set to Single, the album title and the Tour, he said he found it strange because it was a song from Platinum Weird, I thought he wanted to comment on your cause controversy and had a little poison there. It's the same that's what's going on now in a different way, that Daniel wants publicity, he cited qeu tried contacting celine to record a duet in this song, he was angry 'cause was refused, I hope the team celine bring us an answer and that song out of the cd.

Maybe a good idea to write this to Feeling Entertainment?  That way Rene must read it. And I believe some of you have Andre Coutou and or Barnev Valsaint on their facebook?  She should know this, definately.
But let this be a lesson too; stop covering and be orginal. There are many NEW songs that really get high in the charts. All you need is some very talented writers that write songs for Celine, no covers, original songs. And Daniel Merriweather has no respect at all. First find out what went wrong, discuss that in private with Celine, Rene and the team and don't use social media this way. Disrespectful, that is what it is. Btw was water and a flame such a huge hit?  He should be glad that, thanks to Celine, that song gets attention again, and maybe people will find the original song too.
When things like this happen it would have been good if Celine had her own twitterpage, so anyone could immediately tell her what is going on or whatever we would like to say to her ( in a respectful manner!)

Doing covers & not mentioning the songwriter of each song are legitimate actions! Nothing wrong with these. However, accusing someone of stealing songwriting credits with 0 proof to back this s*** up can be a good reason for Daniel to get sued. He (or anyone) just can't throw invalid accusations publicly without facing the consequences. He claims to have seen all these things in life (much more than Celine, as he claims), but apparently all this experience wasn't enough to teach him when to shut up.

Well well well so what conclusions can we take out of this interesting new chapter of this english album? I think everyone can have their own lesson here

1) Daniel Merriweather is a crybaby. He was wrong and moaned about something without checking first the facts. What a poor promotion for his image.

2) Céline: next time learn to be ORIGINAL instead of picking songs from others. You will avoid this embarrasing situations

And the best part of all: this incident won't do any good to Céline's album now. It will bring bad publicity to it, let alone if they still plan to release this song as a single. Because now all the press and the media will refer it as "the song Céline *supposedly* stole from D. Merriweather for her comeback album". This won't do any favour to Céline, so if they're clever enough, this event can have a very positive side: they have the perfect opportunity to change the album's title and rename it. And if they're mover than clever, they will completely remove the song from the album's tracklist

Daniel, relax.. she was just inspired by your (great and very personal) song.. she never claimed she wrote the song..she's rather paying tribute to your artistry..
Maybe she and Eg even managed to add a new dimension to your song (which isn't vanished all of a sudden now Celine Dion recorded it.. likely more people will discover your original!)

This whole controversy touches a sincere problem concerning Celine's artistry.. she is the best pop singer/interpreter in the world (obviously) but not much more than just that..
After FIY and Taking Chances (but also One Heart, All The Way, Let's Talk About Love) this is another example of her pitching a song - using highly comparable production; as if it's her own 'artistry' and invention, while she is just imitating, or rather assimilating it.. I can imagine that Merriweather, as a genuine artist, who doesn't cares for money 'only' feels neglected or affected by this.

The way he deals with his feelings, apparently without having tried to rebut/contact Celine's team, is of course tasteless..

Yes, everyone is pointing Daniel as the big loser here, but I wouldn't say Céline will come out with flying colours. This incident is revealing again her continued use of covers to build her repertoire and her albums, and this can affect the image that she has as an artist who yes, she has a great voice and is so talented, but lacks a lot of originality and creativity.

I really hope Céline and René are learning a lesson out of this... they should stop using covers as the main appeal everytime she puts out an album or a concert

Can sony just drop this song altogether? First time i heard it (his duet with adele), i didnt like right there and then. Found it boring. When i heard celine's version, i still didnt like it.. the only reason i like it is im hearing celine's voice in the song. That's it, nothing more.

What did he expect celine to say? Does celine celine say eric carmen wrote ABM before she sings it? Or that Seduces Me was written by Dan Hill? Or that Bryan Adams, a way way bigger artist than this Daniel, cowrote LTAL?

Cone on Daniel, u cant expect her to thank each and every writer for each song she sings... say in her Vegas show right now, if she'd do that.. she'd spent half the show thanking the writers of the 20 something songs she sings there... oh please give Celine a break, Daniel... u'll get ur "media credit" in due time... just wait for the album to be promoted and launched...

This is crazy….. And it's comical that we're so caught up in this. You can tell how hungry we are for news. And we're not exactly used to ANY sort of "controversy" when it comes to Celine. This is hardly a big deal in the grand scheme of Celine's career, but…..

I think Merriweather is coming across ungrateful & unprofessional. It's insane that he hasn't kept any resentment to himself -- considering he could make a lot of money off of this and it could lead to future collaborations. But I guess we now understand why he hasn't really broken through to the mainstream ---- he lacks the business gene.

I'm conflicted because I do like the song. I don't think it should be released as a single. But I like the idea of it being on the album. FALLING INTO YOU is another example of a great album track and album title but not a great choice for a single. Same for LET'S TALK ABOUT LOVE. It's a good song that obviously had a big impact on Celine and I honestly hope all of this gets ironed out and the song remains on the album and the title of the album remains WAAF. But I know that her album titles change up to the last minute so who knows….

He needs to correct his wrong doing and understand that Celine has done no wrong. He would be a fool, business wise and reputation wise, to not. (And I'm not saying that because I'm a Celine fan.)

Frankly, there is nothing for Celine's team to do (and, really, they don't have to do anything) other than to release a simple statement clarifying that Celine recorded the song because she admires it, worked with the original producer, and has never claimed to have written the song. Merriweather looks unbelievably childish with all of this. Celine's team is probably baffled by the immaturity. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you….
