The more I read some of the comments on the posibility that a new show will be announced soon, the more I am convinced that the comments are made by people with no knowledge at all of doing business, careerplanning, the music industry and marketing... However it could be also that some are just jelous that she will perform again in the USA and not going to tour the world (again) after the Taking Chances tour is finished...
For Christ sake, a new Vegas show will NOT ruin her career... It will NOT be bye bye Céline... Au contrary, it will be another boost to her long lasting career...
"A New Day" was one of the best decissions made in music history! Before Céline Dion nobody had EVER tried this before... We saw a similar thing with musicals which are also performed for years, even decades but in the music branch it was new and never seen before. A contract for 3 years was signed but due the succes of the shows an addition was made twice for another year... Near all the shows during those 5 years were completely booked in advance... Few tickets available on the nights itself were sold in no time at the office while dozens of people were waiting to buy a ticket...
The AND show was something new, it wasn't just a concert like we know... It was a complete show which was also never done before... Céline Dion & Franco Dragone created a new era in the history of Las Vegas and even in the history of music!
Yes, she earned a nice amount of money during those 5 years... Yes, maybe it was indeed "easy money" like stated sometime by people and fans...
Also due the "AND" shows Las Vegas was given more credit then ever before... Before Céline Dion Las Vegas was famous for his casino's, some small shows like Cirque du Soleil and ofcourse it was also know for the women and the fact that prostitution is legal in Las Vegas and most of Nevada... After Céline Dion signed her contract a new wing was build to host her show at Caesar's and ticket were sold like never seen before... Céline opened a new era to Las Vegas... Since her a lot of famous artist have performed in Vegas and Vegas became also a holiday destination for families... The "City of sins" became a bit more decent then before... Although there are still a lot of "sins" in Vegas you can visit Vegas with the family. And that new era was created by the introduction of Céline Dion in Las Vegas...
She still sold a lot of records while performing in Las Vegas and even created a few albums during that time. So I can really see no negative influence to her career by performing in Las Vegas...
But I admit that not every fan in the world have the money to fly to Las Vegas and see her perform... Although the prices were more than fair in Vegas and hotels are rather cheap in town you still have to fly a lot of miles if you live outside the US... From my country (Belgium), tickets will vary between 5 to 700 EUR wich is a lot of money. But then again, she never let down the fans in the world. After her shows in Vegas she added a world tour which will bring her arround the world in many countries... Such a world tour is taking a lot of energy from a person... It's easier and even healthier to remain in one place during a few years then flying arround the world in about 1 year...
When the second show in Vegas will be announced I think there will be indeed some negative reactions to it like we can read on this board, and honestly, I can understand it... But most of the reactions will be positive... Since it seems that only a "limited" amount of shows will be performed she will have enough sparetime to do other things she likes... Being with her family, record a new album, going on holiday, etc... Hopefully the new show will announce again a new era to the music history... It's possible if the new show is so renewing that it was never seen before... Like said before: Peforming in Vegas is performing a show, not a concert...
But we will all have to wait some more to see IF the second show will indeed take place in Vegas (which is very likely since not only rumours were made about it but also sources involved with Céline, her companies and the Harrah group are saying all the same) and WHAT it will be... And HOW LONG and HOW MANY shows there will be scheduled...
Céline has reached during the past years a status of a being a music legend so it is same to say that she does not have to fear for her career since it doesn't matter anymore... She reached the absolute top in the music branch and will be famous even decades after she will die (hopefully that's still long away from now). Her records will be sold regarding what she does... Ok, a difference of a few million records can be made due the fact that she may perform a new show during a couple of years but the revenue of the new show will compensate it more than enough.
So in the end (and even in the beginning) a new show in Vegas will definately NOT ruin nor end her career...
Just my 2 cents
But maybe I see it different because I'm used to do business and negociating contracts and evaluating risks of decissions made... Although it's in a complete different branch I can understand the decissions made by Céline and her companies very well.
