Yes, I also think this is a burden off her shoulder. Keeping fans in the dark only added extra pressure. Now all of us are on the same page, so even spiritually we can focus on the same thing. Another good aspect of speaking out is the outpouring of love she received. I believe all of this contributes to a better emotional well-being, which is very important during this battle.

 

We can only hope that the outpouring of love gives her some strength. And maybe just enough strength to somehow manifest a miracle.

 

I believe that it's possible for her and only her to overcome this. Because sheer force of will and positive thinking is the wildcard with any disease.

It says some of the sympthoms can be the feeling of having a full stomach, maybe thats why she was so thin in 2019? Maybe that was the beginning of it?

Saw Celine in vegas November 2017, she was late on and later found out they were unsure if she would go ahead with that show. Luckily for me she did however the following shows were cancelled due to lower back spasms. So I would say she’s probably been suffering with this unknowingly for a while

The idea of Celine not being able to sing / perform again at the level she's used to, or maybe ever, is so sad. It reminds me of Julie Andrews. Julie didn't get diagnosed with a disorder... she had a procedure that ended up ruining her vocal cords. Both devastating situations. Julie, thankfully, found other ways to proceed -- doing more movies, writing children's books, etc. She could remain a public figure. I hope that Celine is able to get the help she needs in order to maintain her career since she is so beloved -- if that's what she wants to do. Most importantly, I just hope she heals and spends time with her children right now. I'm going to hold onto hope!

I mean vocal spasms were prominent during the TC world tour, then I remember after Rene passed in end of 2016 she was suffering back spasms, which is when we saw her do her Vegas shows in black dress only with a back brace underneath. I think this could have gone back in time. I also remember her saying she started dancing and doing stretches AFTER her back issues to try and help with the problem.

I was trying to recall if she mentioned spasms in the Through the Eyes of the World documentary. Or even during A New Day...?

In her video message, she said she's been dealing with health issues "for a long time." I wonder how long it's actually been. She's probably shielded us from a lot.

This doctor seems to have the case of the giggles which I find odd….. but he’s very hopeful for Celine and has even treated 11 patients with this disorder. I don’t know if she’ll sing again at this rate, who cares… but I hope she will a great quality of life.

I believe all of us fans are in a state of shock. I am stil trying hard to process. Since I have been following her for such a long time, I always imagined that after Rene passed she would kind of do less ,I mean let's face it he was the driving force and the inspiration behind her. I can think of many interviews where this was clearly seen. She wanted to give up on A New Day, he convinced her. She didn't want to do interviews and promos, he convinced her. I am not saying that she would retire, but just choose the projects that she was passionate about. She really enjoys singing and being on stage,and that would still happen when and if she felt like it. What I never imagined was that a health condition would prevent her from doing so. I also know that she is a fighter. She won't give up easily. She has the best medical help and I am sure that she will get through this. Like Julie Andrews, I am sure that she will find a new way to use her voice.Its just a question of time. She now has a new driving force ,her precious boys., as she said. I am certain that Celine will once again surprise us and 'Let beauty come out of ashes'. So courage, don't you dare fail her now!

Tbh i would have preferred her losing part of her voice but be able to live a normal life and become active in other things than what is happening to her now.

I read somewhere that many early "signs" aren't caught in time because they come off as regular spasms than anyone can get. It reminded me of an interview she did around the mid or late 90s where she mentioned starting exercising to help with back pain that she was suffering from. Who knows how many things that she's suffered from in the past may have been very early signs of SPS. I too wonder how long she means when she said she's been dealing with this for a long time.

 

A lot of doctors wanting to give some hope for Celine

 

We saw her earlier this year out at the dentist with the twins, and pictures of her working on the Resorts World elephant charity project. Hopefully her symptoms are on the milder side of the spectrum and that she is able to manage/treat this disease for a long time so that she can continue to do things as normally as possible. I honestly don't care if she ever performs live again at this moment, I just want her to have good day to day life going forward.

Remember when she had back problems and had to cancel the show in 2017? She also had ear problems in 2018. And as someone said she got thin in 2019, depicting the symptoms of SPS. But i am no doctor. She could merely have caught the syndrome in pandemic, she has been in home for almost 2 years now. It's a long time.

I haven't been able to find the article link on the forum, and I wonder if anyone might remember the article as I feel like some of the content might apply in some ways to this current sad news.

I’ve been largely offline yesterday so just catching up, but this was actually the top news story in Canada yesterday on our flagship national news broadcast.

 

Of course trending news elsewhere too. And when you get “get well soon” wishes from the Prime Minister (see above), that’s a national treasure right there.

 

So many people genuinely sorry and worried for her, even if they’re not fans. Respect for her as a person runs deep.

I was absolutely speechless reading this news two days ago. Céline, like many others have already stated, is like a family member. Her music and her career has been with me over 26 years. I fell in love with her Falling Into You album right before Titanic came out and her songs have always been there for me. I have so many good and bad memories associated with one of her songs, so many emotions and each one of her albums represents a part of my life for me. Where I was, what I did and what happened in my life was always with a Céline Dion song in the background. I am so thankful for all of that. Her discography is the soundtrack of so many lives.

 

I wish her all the best and I hope for a miracle. I always pictured her with long grey hair on a chair on stage, still singing her heart out in 2040.

And even if that never happens, I hope she can at least find some peace of mind knowing that she has given us so much over the years. She deserves a peaceful rest of her life without pain or stress.

I was only able to bring myself to watch each message once, but in the French one, doesn’t she say “the thought of not being able to sing again in unimaginable”, whereas in English she doesn’t?

This is clearly something she has considered… and is visibly crushed by it. I wonder if it’s inevitable, but fighter that she is, she’s not yet willing to admit it and make peace with it?
