The people handling the screening in Boston said Celine wasn’t feeling well and they nixed the Q&A. 😭😩 we all waited because they asked us to stay for “Part 2”. Hopefully that’s not the case and maybe she just did too many interviews early and felt that was enough.

 

This event is also her first major event in years. She’s gone from literally the quietest life to that in one evening. An event specifically about her too. It’s only right that she could be tired and overwhelmed emotionally.

 

I can’t believe how amazing she looked. Very excited for next Tuesday and seeing the doc.

So here are some random points that stuck with me after the screening tonight that I will probably forget tomorrow, so let me brain dump them now:

 

1. Irene said Celine wanted this documentary in her own words, not other people talking about Celine, which Irene absolutely loved as a director. Celine also gave an endowed chair to her SPS doctor, which is a big deal in the world of academia (uni professor here).

 

2. Shamrock’s tweet really touched all of us (could someone on Celine’s team actually reading her social media now?).

 

3. The initial part of the doc takes you through 1 out of 4 of Celine’s warehouses. She keeps everything like she’s told Oprah in the past. Truly a walk down memory lane. When you recognize all these artifacts of her career from over the years, you realize just how long we have followed her and how her personal items almost feel like ours because we know her so well. Such a brilliant idea to include this in the doc.

 

4. You get to see a very intimate side of Celine that we haven’t seen before of her while she’s at home. She loves having fun with the twins. Also her home has evolved quite a bit and she’s reverted from the modern style we saw when she invited Oprah into her home in 2003 and back to the classic style of her original Florida home before she took the hiatus. It stinks that she was somewhat held captive the last four years in her home due to concerns that people would not take her illness seriously, but you get to see what she was up to during all that time. Celine with her animals, Celine with her sweet kids, and with her new team of experts.

 

5. There is enough old and new concert footage to keep us happy including a new recording of TPOL.

 

6. Love Again was not a remnant of Courage. It was a brand new recording at Celine’s lowest point of her battle and you’ll see her record it for her first time back in the studio. it makes me appreciate this song even more and angry that it wasn’t nominated for an Oscar. It’s even more poignant because Celine actually contemplates during the recording if she’ll have to evolve into a softer style like this song and if the people will like it. She is truly her biggest critic.

 

7. The things you think will get a lot of coverage, like Rene’s passing, are depicted with the most simplicity and emotion by Irene. There is a moment when Celine is sitting by the pool in a lounger just quiet and you can feel how much she misses Rene without her saying a word. There’s a tender moment when she shares one of Maria Callas’ necklaces that Rene gifted to her and she uses it to summon her strength.

 

8. Ending is absolutely brutal to watch like Hoda teased during the interview. The fact that our lady is going through this torture is horrifying, but she kept her suffering silent for so long. No surprise that shortly after the SPS episode, Celine leaps right back into song as her therapy. I didn’t catch what the song was, but a lot of people wondered if it was a new song.

 

9. Sweet John Farnham tribute, seemed kind of random though, along with a shoutout to just Andre Coutu.

 

10. Amidst all the rumors, you have to wonder where Claudette was getting her information. Dave Platel really seemed to be the one in charge after Celine.

 

11. If you are expecting grandiosity and something depicting Celine‘s larger than life career, you will get only tiny hints of it, but it is definitely not at the heart of what the documentary is trying to communicate. At the core of it, it is really juxtaposing Celine the superstar with Celine the human. Of course I think we as fans would have preferred a body of work that communicated the magnitude of Celine’s success and accomplishments to a broader non-fan audience, but then I realized this body of work was created for us and not for them. We now have a peak inside the relative silence for the last four years. And it wasn’t pretty. She suffered a lot and I feel ashamed by some of the discussions I saw on here.

 

12. Don’t judge the dog or you’ll regret it.

 

I’m sure more will come to me later but for now I can say with certainty that you will all love it.

Here’s a post 30 years in the making that I was sure would never happen after the sad news of her diagnosis. Tonight was the most incredible, spectacular, and most memorable day of my life. After flying all over the country and world to meet our idol, our Queen, our beloved… I got to sing with her, she signed my LTAL album and took a photo with me. For those of you who have been trying for LITERAL decades, please don’t give up. I can’t explain how tender and intimate she was tonight stopping with the fans to personally greet them. It was a moment I will never forget, Celine. I will love you forever.

it’s either a new dubbed version she re-recorded or what she was actually singing live into her mic that night that you didn’t hear over the playback. I once heard one of the moderators here say that’s what they did for the TC tour dvd but idk. Either way it sounded new to my ears.

yes, lots of people crying all around. Lots of laughing as well. Celine still finds a way to add humor to the tragedy. Lots of people clapping and cheering during performance clips. There was applause when Rene appeared.

 

Many of us assumed there would be Q&A at the end at least with Irene bc they were setting up the stage again. I was surprised Celine came back at the end. It was a long night though (ended almost 11) and people were ready to go.

I just I just want to tell you that I am very happy for Céline because she has improved, but also for all of you. The happiness you radiate makes me very emotional, after all the worries, there is finally light at the end of the tunnel.

 

I told you a long time ago that Céline would come back stronger than ever. And she will, little by little she is showing us.

 

 

I am in a bit of shock because there are so many emotions and I have to manage them.

I really like your attitude in these days!

 

Talking about the promotion of the documentary and how Amazon is handling it in an epic way.

 

Maybe Amazon will decide to take over Céline's recording career, I think it's time to leave Sony Music.

 

It would be a dream come true, a new chapter, new projects. I hope so, and finally there will be a new team for Céline.

No. She literally did 2 hours with the reporters when walking in. She stopped with each one of them and took a lot of time. The venue has to shut down by a certain time. Amazon is renting the place. Hmm in Irene's speech said we would be in Paris tomorrow. Do you think that means both her and Celine?

The documentary is great and heartbreaking in many ways but it doesn't include many details. What I mean is that it rather shows the ordinary Celine and it shows SPS without explaining much though. There is more explanation in the interviews or podcasts she did, so you don't really learn more, you just see it. And that's painful to watch. The timeline is a little bit off and you don't really know what was shot before or after the diagnosis. And the diagnosis moment is not really shown either, just the recording of the SPS announcement which we know happened 3 months later... It's also very calm....

 

I didn't really see a lot of entirely new old footage, hard for me to say as the whole thing was overwhelming.TPOL was just the recording either from Live2018 or Las Vegas since they did the same concert after. I felt like it was too long because in general other songs were like 10-20 seconds maybe. There are not that many songs actually. And yeah that John Fanrham segment was a bit random and...Long?

 

And Dave is everywhere but he rather seemed like a vulture than a caring person but it was maybe just his appearance.
