We do LOVE Céline but outside French speaking countries where she is an icon, a myth, she is in others contrôles a star like so many stars. Nothing less nothing more as Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Madonna, etc. I remember when i started to travel and settled down for a year in Germany in 1999. She was known for the Titanic film. Most of people i met did not Even known she wasn't native english speaker, which sounded so weird to me !! And it's true that in Spain, as long as Italy and other european countries, well, she is a singer, a normal singer among so many.

 

I didn't know Celine wasn't a native speaker of English either when I first started to listen to her. Most ESL speakers could never tell based on her albums (but many would probably guess based on her live performances, especially those in 2000s).

Nah, here in Germany most people know that Celine is French-Canadian and that Celine sings in English and French. Her French albums have always charted in the Album Charts since D'eux/1995. SSDA was even in the Top 20 (No. 11) in 1998. The single PQTME was also successful in Germany. In Spain, practically no one, and I know many people, listens to Celine or other singers like her. They only listen to reggaeton, except in some cases, like me...

Yes, it's true, but I think maybe it's the lack of publicity given to Céline in Spain, for example... They don't usually talk about her here...

 

I speak from my perspective as an 18-year-old boy, where most boys don't usually listen to pop music or Céline-style music. Only reggaeton music. It's what you hear here, and in practically all ages...
