I can also imagine that maybe it was just a regular Sony employee who took a song as a keepsake from the recording sessions and secretly sold it to make some money. The promo-only tracks uploaded to the multimedia section, which I added recently with TSHWL’s help, were probably obtained in a similar way (I wasn’t the creator of the files; I simply did a lot of searching on the internet to find this almost-forgotten material).

 

Promo-only releases are only intended for TV networks, pubs, and clubs, so someone must have taken them from the official discs sent by Sony to those venues and uploaded them to the internet, since they weren’t meant for the general public. Proof of this is that you’ll barely find it anywhere on the internet, not even on Céline’s official channels.

It's very nice to hear the full version of the song. For myself I'm treating it like a demo and I can't wait to hear it from Celine soon hopefully. I love this song and with the right production and big orchestra it sure will be an amazing song. Every sung snippet from Celine gives me shivers

It seems like this song was supposed to be released along with the movie love again and be part of the soundtrack. This is the only logical explanation as to why Humberto Gatica said on his Instagram years ago that it would be released on Valentine’s Day some years ago. And that was around the time when love again was/was supposed to be released. But somehow this song didn’t make it on the soundtrack of the film. Maybe it’s really not that good in full and they decided not to release it after all.

I have to honestly say that I forgot about this song and now that you mentioned it I just listen to it again. I must say that the song itself isn’t that bad but her vocals are. And now knowing what she has been through, I suppose that it must have been recorded while PTSD got control over her vocal cords. And we can hear that on the entire courage album.

Knowing what we know now with everything Celine has been through, and what it probably took for her to make the Courage album (+ Love Again new songs), it's become something incredibly special. My hearts breaks a little listening to it because of how much pain she must have been during that period of her life.

My message doesn’t make sense with what you said, but what I mean is Play Me Like a Love Song. And if Céline wants her son to play the piano on the instrumental and that’s why she hasn’t released it, because she’s waiting for a new version or wants to re-record it?

I don’t think the Play Me Like A Love Song is bad in full as they were praising it and sharing it on social media BUT i guess if it’s really part of the movie. I think it doesn’t match the soundtrack. This song is more fit on drama movie. Not romcom. PMLALS seems to be too dramatic and too „big“ for a romcom among uptempo pop songs. Also, maybe it didn’t sound that great in full, and therefore, they decided not to release it. It’s been six years now, so I don’t think we will get an official release of it.

 

My best guess is that it was written and recorded based on an early concept of the project and when they actually saw the final product it just didn't fit. Honestly, the movie is not that good; her parts are great and it's a great concept but it definitely could have been better. If I were Sony I would probably want to hold onto that song and not waste it on a movie that isn't going to do that well.

 

This is a dark thought, but is another thought I've had about it. Celine is one of the very few artists who can expect a massive sales bump after her death. After Michael and Whitney's passing, there may be a way of thinking about estate planning in the industry for an artist like Celine. This is a song that would be perfect as a "final song." I wouldn't be surprised at all if Celine has been given some advice to set aside songs as a financial legacy for her sons.

Yep I think a lot of our griping about unreleased content ultimately comes down to this. Look at someone like Mariah, as she has said she doesn't believe in time and probably expects to live forever and so she releases everything she has to stay relevant, Celine is quite the opposite, especially after Rene's passing and her own health struggles. The amount of money her estate probably stands to make after her death is staggering and it would be the last thing she ever does for her kids.

Well, It’s All Coming Back To Me is a famous one and it fits the ending and transitions to the live concert of a famous singer which also part of the character of the movie.

 

Play Me Like A Love Song is too dramatic for this and it’s a new one. Don’t you noticed that new songs were only played a couple of seconds unlike the old ones which plays longer.

Didn’t you hear her interviews before that she already recorded a couple of songs that can be released for the next album. Recorded during the courage era

Nope. It has been confirmed by Jonas Myrin that the whole true title of this song was “Play Me Like A Love Song”.
