There's something I don't quite get from the article.

It says Celine is refusing to pay the commissions on the 500m multi-year deal but she's only done 2 small tours. Were they expecting for her to pay it all upfront as opposed to spread throughout the time frame of the deal they made?

 

If that's the case then I can understand why she'd be refusing to pay.

Exactly thats what i dont get. If shes only done one tour as part of this tour deal (worh $500 FREAKIN MILLION) out of say 3 or 4 (however many it takes to fulfill it) then how can she pay commission for christ sake

When they say they are bringing a suit against Celine, it means Celine, the brand. She probably had no idea this was even an issue unless someone brought it up to her. This is a matter that would be taken care of by her financial and legal team. In a way, it doesn't involve her, as a person, at all. Rest assured, her legal team is on this and working out whatever matters of disagreement there are. As for Celine.....she may or may not even be aware of this issue. That's how these things go, we just don't usually hear about them.

Wow, her and Rob have a 30 year relationship. He spoke at Rene's tribute. Something really went off the tracks here.

 

Yes, that’s exactly what I thought- he gave such a nice speech at Rene’s memorial. This is not just a random disgruntled person suing and trying to make a quick buck. It’s a career-long collaborator and friend. That’s what makes it different from the “of course she’s sometimes going to get sued” type of thing. Very curious as to what the contract said.

The headlines certainly doesn't look good, however I always tell myself, there are 2 sides to a story. They have their version and Celine/ her team has theirs. We will likely never know how it got to this point but I hope there will be a quick resolution and it won't drag on.

Well, if nothing else, this is highly embarrassing.

She has spent decades building a reputation and goodwill in the industry. This is a very quick & easy way to destroy it...

 

A legal spat over the interpretation of some clause in an ICM contract is one thing. Breaking with Rob Prinz is quite another.

The two things that alarm me are that something like this doesn’t happen over night, and was most likely going on for months for them to drop her, and the fact it names Rob, who apparently was once a good friend AND Céline personally. “Ms Dion is refusing to pay...”Obvs I know she has teams of lawyers and people looking after the deals/money but it’s all just very out of the blue unlike her.

 

I just am very intrigued as to what was going on- when did Ms Dion initially refuse to pay/how/what happened and how did ICM try to amicably resolve the matter...? Not to sound dramatic but It is quite a blow to her reputation as someone who has built her career from touring and performing. Celine’s credit ratng just took a big hit!

 

I agree that we need to see some PR control.

According to THR reporting, they dropped her.

 

I don't think the general public out there is really aware of this yet. If I didn't come to this forum, I wouldn't have found out. It was reported on Billboard, and ET Canada, but still I think the damage is not as big as we may think.

It's all over French press.

And from the industry perspective, trades like Billboard & THR (who broke this, I believe) are what matters.

We need another interview with that Dan Watoon guy, he’d ask her about this.

I’m still surprised that he actually went there and asked Celine face to face about pulling “I’m Your Angel” and R Kelly.

I’m so used to the “bubblegum” easy same interviews from her English career, that was a pleasant surprise.

Maybe the last straw for them, is the news about John Nelson from AEG overseeing Céline's upcoming tour(s), which is a fairly recent development/decision.

Because that basically also means Céline already has a deal with AEG, making an agent in a way redundant (as an agent has to negotiate between the artist and a promotor).

February 15, 2019 (Las Vegas, Nevada)

 

Celine Dion’s management, CDA Productions (Las Vegas) Inc., is refuting the story that ran in Billboard on February 13, 2019, concerning a supposed ICM Partners’ internal memo. The article quotes the memo as stating that Ms. Dion refused to pay the commissions she owes to Rob Prinz and the agency from a touring deal that she signed in 2017. The article also states that ICM dropped Ms. Dion as a client as a result.

 

CDA has indicated that they have no choice but to respond to the untruths that were alleged in the ICM memo, to first and foremost protect the integrity of Ms. Dion who has been publicly harmed by these false statements. CDA reports that ICM and Mr. Prinz did not resign. Ms. Dion terminated them in writing on May 7, 2018. CDA also reports that Ms. Dion is not refusing to pay millions of dollars in commissions from the touring deal. Instead, even though there was no agency agreement in place, CDA made several multi-million dollar offers during the past year in attempt to arrive at a fair fee, all of which ICM and Mr. Prinz refused.

 

“I’m sad and disappointed by this false report that I’m refusing to pay ICM or Rob Prinz. I know that my team has made several very fair and generous offers to them and we really put a lot of effort in trying to work things out," said Celine Dion.

CDA Productions (Las Vegas) Inc. and Celine Dion have no further comments.
