Playback is mostly used for preservation, yes. But a prime example of when Celine herself wanted to use it for reasons like keeping up appearances was October 2016. I saw comments all over the internet EVEN ON CELINE FORUMS, saying that her voice was shot, she needs to give it up, if she cant sing it perfectly dont sing it at all, why bother etc.

 

The amount of pressure on her is immense, that was one of the reasons why in October 2016 she added 3 sets of playback within days of each other because she was getting so much crap for it, some of the hate i saw on her performances of MHWGO in Sept/Oct 2016 was HORRENDOUS. The worst ive ever seen. Even the audience, if you watch videos, a lot didnt even clap or stand up or be as loud as usual... it saddened me and probably saddened her too.

It's just 23 comments and a lot of them show sympathy for her.

They admit it sounded not her best, but they do not show the hate you describe.

I've seen worse comments about her and they don't even talk about her singing.

 

And this is just one video out of the hundreds where she sang it live and sounded flawless.

 

So like I said, don't exaggerate things that clearly aren't there.

LOL Most of the comments that you see on that video are coming from Céline fans. Even me i can see my comment there. That time she’s working so hard. I think she wants that to ignore what she really feels after the death of her husband. She’s still grieving. And her vocal chords were really tired that time like damaged.

 

I don’t see any non fans complaining. And up to now. We don’t hear any complains of the people who have gone to that concert that time. News, on twitter but only here and from céline fans.

 

So, don’t worry I don’t see any hate. Maybe worried.

Didn't know the 'regular' people could attend these shows.

But my experience with these tapings here, it's takes a long long long day waiting haha.

But in the end it's fun!

 

I attended the show where Céline performed Simply The Best, it was a horrible long day without drinks or food.

But when she came onstage in the evening... All was forgotten

I don't care if she lips, as long it's well covered. For instance the 2016/2017 billboard performances, I originally thought TSMGO was live but even though it's not I still go back & watch it all the time because she gave a great performance and it looks live. Same for the 2017 MHWGO (pretty sure she did as always where she lips only the climax), I love watching it.

 

It would be amazing if she sings her tribute live, but I would have no problem if she records a track to use for playback.

 

Was her performance for the Bee Gees tribute live? Because she was amazing in that one as well.

It's pre recorded because it was auto tuned. I hate it. And I think she singing it a bit slow since 2011. I think she should sing the song a little faster like in A New Day...

It’s quite clear from that video that they used 22nd April vocals for MHWGO. Celine will have sang it live that night, her vocals recorded raw through the mic feed, then there will have been a little post-production (which gave the sound that little bit of electric tone)...

 

Doesn’t surprise me nor bother me, that performance was iconic and only diligent fans would notice it wasn’t live. Can’t wait to hear what she comes up with for the Aretha tribute

But I don´t really get the problem about, what if she will sip syncing... we will still hear her very recent vocals and the general public won´t know that it´s maybe lipped. Don´t get me wrong, I would love a full live performance, for sure. But I wouldn´t mind it, if she was in the studio before the show and we see a flaweless performance like TSMGO in 2016. I mean on big events like the billboard music awards, many performances, also from younger singers aren´t live, so why isn´t Celine allowed to do so, if she wants.
