"You're the Voice" was recorded by the Australian "legend and idol", singer John Farnham, way back in 1986. It was one of his biggest hits in Australia and Europe. In the U.S. the song was covered by the band Heart (> that's the one, of whom Céline covered "Alone", b.t.w.) in the 90ies. Alan Parsons Project performed it at the huge "World Liberty Concert" in Arnhem, Netherlands in 1995. The song had been used as a soundtrack for movies & tv and had been covered very often.

 

During the interview with "The Sunday Project" Céline told, that she loves Farnham.

So, that's a very good reason to cover a (IMO) great song!

I LOVE her cover of You're The Voice. I'm a sucker for songs from the 80's...and the way she messed up the words and restarted the song is exactly why I love this woman so much! Her speech was adorable. So much fun!

Me too. IMO it's a sign of great respect towards the Australian audience, stopping the songs and starting again. As that song surely is some kind of hymn or national treasure for them. And the lyrics are so powerful, always fitted to "angry times in the world", maybe now much more than ever?

I do not like you're the voice as a song.

 

I do however love the kind of voice that song requires. A tone and some notes that she is more hesitant to bring back for live renditions of many HER songs....i wish she would take that attitude toward including live versions of some of these playbacks. Tpol. Wdmhbn, Iacbtmn...its time to hear those in present day voice...everything we have seen from the reason, Think twice, cant help falling in love, And you're the voice all show it is within reach.

 

I do love we are getting more out of her voice than recent past i just long for current renditions of her songs!!! Not a huge fan of covers.

Wow, lots to catch up on here!

 

Firstly, ‘You’re The Voice’...not crazy about the song, nor her cover of it. Couldn’t understand half of the words she was singing. But I think it’s a very nice gesture for the Australian fans, I’m sure they loved it. (Although could they look anymore bored in that video?) I’m going to listen again, see if it grows on me.

 

The new MHWGO dress is exsquisite, she really is stunning.

 

I can tell the tour is starting to take a little bit of an effect on her voice, her vocals are a lot more muggy and she’s relying once again on a more nasal sounds to keep the power. I imagine all the travelling and upheaval doesn’t help. I imagine she’s quite tired but she’s doing such an amazing job on this tour. I don’t know how our Queen does it, she’s got such a fantastic work ethic and love for her fans, every modern day artists should follow her example.

 

I’m just really really worried that by the time she comes to promote the new album her voice will be shot from the tour and another stint in Vegas...we shall see. I expect nothing but the best from Celine, and she always gives her best 👌🏻👌🏻

I completely agree, covers are fine but I’d much rather hear her 2018 take on some of her fine repertoire. She has such a great back catalogue of songs she should be doing live. I’d be happy to hear all the big hits in a different arrangement to suit her voice, I just want to hear them live! She’s more than capable.

Ok not crazy about “You’re the Voice”. Did the audience like it? Did she really drop TR and add this song and keep the Prince songs?

As much as I love her I’ll never understand her reluctance to do her songs, the songs that she says she loves btw.
