I fell asleep with this s*** of a show.. though happy my country ended second. Feel a little more sweet though Celine didn't make it to the stage.

She/her management is to blame. They should have denied the rumours of the organizers, share the video on Tuesday on her socials and wish everybody luck saying she won't be there AT ALL. Agree, Celine's team could have said something but it really comes down to the event organisers. They had the media in the arena believing that she was there.

I’m disappointed in both ESC and Celine’s team. Yes the committee pedalled it but Celine’s team has to have been aware of it. They could so easily have released a statement to say no. It’s as much on them as it is the committee.

What happened with Celine at Eurovision was one of the biggest scams in recent years. They spent half the show name-dropping her, building up the hype with “she’s here, she’s arrived,” shamelessly playing on the audience’s emotions. And then? Nothing. No appearance, just smoke and mirrors. They exploited her name and image in a disgraceful way, just to boost ratings. I really hope Celine’s team speaks out, because this whole stunt was downright shameful.

 

P.S. By the way, a shitty show overall. Polished on the outside, but messy, hollow, and soulless at its core.

 

And for those saying “but she already made a video saying blah blah blah” — we don’t care. We know that. That’s not the point. The problem is the blatant dishonesty of the media and the organizers, who chose to mislead the audience anyway.

Sí, totalmente cierto. Creo que es bastante bajo jugar con la idea de que Céline aparecería en el festival, aunque los directores de Eurovisión pueden argumentar que sí apareció, pero en un vídeo. Depends where you were watching. Commentary in the UK kept mentioning her coming on. Sounds like even the media who were there were led on.

 

Well, that's objectively bad form if commentators were "confirming" the appearance.

 

I do wonder if the organizers truly were hoping right until the end that she would appear - although if Céline never left Vegas and had no plans to, as reported, then that's a bit insane - maybe they planned for it and it was too late to change anything by the time they knew it truly wouldn't happen. The stadium stage would also have been an obvious venue that didn't end up having much function. As I mentioned earlier, there was a Lys Assia / Céline segment meant to be included in the Grand Final between the previous Swiss entrants and Kaarja/Baby Lasagna segments, and it just disappeared. They somehow managed to air the Grand Final without once acknowledging either of their only two previous winners.

 

And this is how we generate conspiracy theories for the next few years...

She specifically said she wished she could be there “tonight.” This was shown at the semifinals, days ago. The more the rumors persisted, leading up to the weekend, she and her team had the 100% absolute duty to clarify that she would not be attending the festival AT ALL.

 

Eurovision is to blame.

 

European media is to blame for their lack of due diligence in confirming the reality.

 

Celine’s team is to blame…for literally everything in her career.

 

Celine is to blame for not being present enough to make sure her name isn’t being dragged through the mud.

This felt like the Jamacia Jazz and Blues Festival back in 2012 when they kept saying "Celine's coming" "Celine's coming" and then yanked the rug out of under us that they couldn't live stream her set. Somewhat different circumstances but the same feeling... absolute bull.

If she was never going to be there, how so many independent parties (Bbc, dutch media, jamala, konchita) stated she would? And where did the dutch media get the snippet of PMLALS?

I suppose the stadium could have been set up just simply as a way of making a lot of money by charging people for entry to watch the show on top of tickets for the arena. Maybe it was never planned to actually be a proper stage.

 

I do feel like if she was supposed to be there they would have planned something related to her to replace her. I just think she was never due to be there. Remember she has largely avoided Eurovision over the years, the video in the semi final was more than she would normally give them.

For anyone who watches Eurovision annually, it is completely unheard of not to celebrate one of the biggest Eurovision winning songs in your country’s history during the Grand Final. It seems to me something happened because they would have done at minimum a tribute to NPPSM during the show. Very unfortunate circumstance all around.
