I called them yesterday & they said they were unable to say whether it would definitely go ahead or not, but that it was still scheduled at the moment.

 

They said it would be next week before they properly discuss it & the first place to get the info would be on their website.

Exactly Carlos, and that's the whole point about it now. At this point of her career, I don't even care if she sings playback at least once one of these songs. But it's a total shame and frustration that we don't have a single performance of all those songs, Then You Look At Me, I Know What Love Is, Faith, Je lui dirai, Rien n'est vraiment fini... not even a playback performance back on the year they were released.

 

Not even ONE. And then think she has delivered more than 1,200 times MHWGO or TPOL or BYLM. It's frustrating, to say the least.

 

 

 

Well actually we do have one performance of Je Lui Dirai. It was during the 1 Fille & 4 Types TVA special in late 2003. They didn't show the full performance but well, by what we can see it's not a big loss

Having "just walk away" "when I need you" or "refused to dance" playback performance don't change anything to me.

 

And I'm pretty sure that it's more job (for nothing)for her to mime a rare song as she has to learn again the lyrics perfectly and listen again and again to it to know exactly where to stop etc...

And it's also completely useless for her : getting fresh air from the usual setlist without really singing is pointless. .. 😞

I generally like most of your posts more than others tend too , but this one I have to disagree with a million percent.

 

If she CAN'T sing it the same or decent for that matter than what is the point in a wasted spot?

 

And I'm sure a lot of people would have felt the same about tous les blues last summer before it was added in.

 

I guess the point I'm saying is if I have ANY desire for a random/rare/unknown song than it absolutely NEEDS to be sang live. Not playback.

 

Songs that are CHOSEN should be live.

 

Songs literally required like hits that have to be sang -i can tolerate more with playback.

 

Then again. I've said a dozen times now that i would much rather see an artistic show with 100% given ten times a year than I would 70 shows with tiresome excuses for the same stuff each time.

What I fear is that she sings one of these never-before performed songs and that the result is a disaster, or that her voice shows such evidence of wear that you see the live performance once and you prefer to have not watched it, or just go back to the audio track or the videoclip and stick to it because the live rendition has not been up to scratch with the original studio song.

 

Yes, I know her voice is still great today and maybe I'm exaggerating on this. I guess I would give her the chance to perform iconic songs like Then You Look At Me today and wait to judge the results, even at the risk of knowing that she's not going to sound like in the CD 18 years ago.

 

What I try to say -maybe the context of a Live show wasn't the most accurate to put- is that I wouldn't mind if we got playback performances like these, of songs she has recorded in the past, before risking the fact of singing them 100% live and be disappointed.

 

So this was in a French TV Special in 2013, where they usually demand her to use playback. Take I'm Alive or Dans un autre monde. The way she sings them these days has little to do with the original album versions. So to me, it was nice to have a 2013 performance of her singing these songs, even if it wasn't live and it was full playback of the original album tracks. So, same I would love to have of songs like En attendant ses pas, Then You Look At Me, Faith, I Know What Love Is, etc. But of course, I understand this doesn't work on a live show. It works on TV and it's okay, but not for a live show before thousands of people who have paid to see you sing live

 

And then there's the technical side of it too, I don't want her to sing a song like TYLAM for the very first time and that the only video we have of it is a bunch of mediocre/poor videos captured with a phone by someone in the audience, and that's it. No official DVD released, nothing professional to have forever (like they sadly did with the 2016 tour). That's why I said that I'd rather have her doing a playback performance, but professionally captured and something worth to keep in her legacy, than a so-so live performance that they won't care to release in a decent way...

 

I reckon there's a bit of nostalgia here too... With the Dans un autre monde video for example, after 15 years since it was promoted on TV at the time the album was released, I can't deny it was nice to see her performing the song again in 2013... to the CD track lol. But still, nice and nicely done (since I can't stand how she sings the song nowadays sorry)

Javito- you'd rather have a polished playback performance of something rather than her current voice? We follow Céline for her voice. For 30 years she has sung for us and it's changed, just like she has. I love all the nuances in her voice and how it's changed- yes, I loved the purity and power of the past, but I love to hear how she adapts live, like when she sings MHWGO, how she compensates for not maybe being able to deliver 100% how it was- what we then get is magic.

 

She's a singer. An amazing one. No playback required or desired.

 

Well I would have to disagree.

 

The way she sang Et je t'aime encore during the concerts was emotionally stronger than the recorded version. At the Paris concert it was goosebumps throughout the whole performance. And during a concert that's what matters, isn't it.

 

Still it didn't got me like the 2004 version of the live in Las Vegas album sorry... I think she didn't beat that live performance

It works at a live show BECAUSE thousands of people paid to see HER live. They love her. She doesn't have to convince anyone. It's HER turf.

It doesn't work on a TV show, because she has to sell something, so she has to convince people, so it should be "perfect".

 

If we want her to sing TYLAM [live], then we should accept it will sound different than 17 years ago. If you don't, then hope for a different (more current) song.

Well it does to me. If we hadn't that one video of her performing Refuse To Dance in TCOML concert DVD, probably most of fans wishing her to perform the song again wouldn't do so, if it wasn't because they remember and enjoyed that one exquisite performance

 

Having seen that video makes you want more (if you like the song, of course). Not having anything, that's how we're doing with all the songs she has never performed, and that we're constantly asking her to perform for the very first time. Because we want to have a performance of those songs, at least one.

 

The Just Walk Away unique performance on Greek TV, that doesn't change anything to you, even if it's playback?? Wow, I'm sad it doesn't for you, but I'm sure for hundreds to thousands of fans it did, when we found out not many years ago that she had actually performed that song, at least once, and that a video of it existed

I don't like this. Actually a day ago there was a threat at a Dutch concert, - everything went well - however - reading Celine is a specific target doesn't make me feel comfortable at all. I still want to go but I still have this feeling .. what if.. And I know many of you will probably say - that is what the terrorists want - making us afraid. But there is no denying that the world definately has changed and going to a concert is not like it used to be. You stay careful, look around you, look where the emergency exits are.. etc.
