I love how she changes the notes at 0.55.

 

I agree that she's freer now, maybe not so crystal clear, her voice sometimes sounds cringe, but it's a different and less robotic Celine.

Have to say though if smeone was singing along in front of me and it would ruin my concert experience and i paid a lot to hear Celine live, i would tick him or her on the shoulder and ask them to either stop singing or to playback along. I'm not sure that this is about growing as an artist. She was as good a few years ago as she is now. The difference is her perspective on life. When you have been through what she has and one of the worst possible things that could happen to you has happened, you just start to care less about the smaller things that just don't matter.

And that's called growing too.

Especially in Céline's case, where she's always been a perfectionist and having René at her side. These last years she's blooming as an individual, but also as an artist, singer, businesswoman, fashionista and more, learning and growing to become more 'Céline' (instead of CélineRené).

You paint a very glowing image of how she has coped and her abilities, but I would question how much she has moved on from 'CelineRene' as you put it. Anyone who watched the press conference she gave about this summer's tour could tell that in her head the image of independent Celine is still a tricky concept for her. She talked about him constantly and in fact I'm pretty sure that 'Rene' was the last word she said in the entire press conference.

 

Whilst she has been making a decent go at working without him and I would say as good as could be expected, there are also cracks appearing that we know weren't there before. There does appear to be a disorganisation behind the scenes, a lack of clear direction and there is a communication issue with what is filtering back to fans. The most obvious example was being kept guessing through her ear problems. Before Rene would have just slipped a few lines to the media which would have reassured people and I'm sure we would have more information by now on what might happen with the Vegas contract or what she might do afterwards.

 

The more relaxed approach to her performing is great but it also seems to me like a winding down of her career. She's just doing it for fun. Rene's death gave her a new prominence which has been especially noticeable on the summer tours over the last two years. However that is not likely to be sustainable and with Vegas due to end and health issues being a big factor since last autumn, it all just reinforces the fact that she will not be around forever. If anyone hasn't yet been to see her live now is the time to do it and for those who complain about play back, just appreciate the fact that for now we can still see her in concert.

 

This is not meaning to sound like doom and gloom, but we have to be realistic. Celine Dion is one of the most remarkable people in the world on so many levels, but she is human, has limits as to what she can endure and is not an all round superwoman who can do everything. She isn't perfect, we create that image of her for ourselves. We see her publicly carrying on and being strong in the face of adversity, we don't see the hurt and insecurity and how grief affects her daily life. At the end of the day she is human and we especially now only see the public face.

It's true that maybe she wanted to make it perfect since this was a promotional performance to help selling her album, a concert for her fans is probably different on that sense. It doesn't necessarily need to be that level of perfection as her album sales don't depend on singing each song perfectly as the album version.

Adele likes to restart her song when she messed the lyrics or went flat. I love to see if Celine can do that. But she is brilliant to add some adlibs to the song when she makes mistake and that is why, she continues it.

One simple example: all the talking. This was something René didn't want, because people come to her show to see/hear her sing. But now... she has even omitted songs to give more room to talk. They also still haven't hired a proper manager, because apparently she wants to be more in control (true, I also think they're quite disorganized, but there are also other factors to consider here). Like I mentioned before, it has appeared she's less perfectionistic than she was in the past and easier satisfied when something goes wrong, having a more "s*** happens" attitude. I've talked to various people in her team (including Scott) and they all mentioned and agreed Céline has been more involved and wants to do things more her way than ever before.

 

Doing it for fun and winding it down isn't the same thing... per her words, she has been doing it "for fun" for 11 years now (since TC) and she's still there. Her priorities have shifted yes, she may not have been releasing many albums, yes, but this woman will keep performing until she's simply unable to.

 

My main point was her growing as an individual, and she has.
