"Have you ever kissed a girl" starts like "Have you ever been in love ?". Being French Canadian, it struck her more quickly whereas an Anglophone would pay more attention to the meaning, I think.

No I just found it nice that she used one of her own that's all...... When does she ever use snippets form her own material, rarely. No overthinking.

Lol. As a.native English speaker I can't remember the last time I began a sentence with 'Have you ever'

Yea but the answer she sings is hardly ever answering the question directly, and so the interviewer gets frustrated sometimes. And she doesn't care if she really ever answers the question or not. And this can be frustrated for a fan as well, especially if it's a good question you really wanted to know the answer to. With Celine it's kinda like 'Just be thankful you got an interview with me and that should be enough'.

Personally, if I had to choose to be interviewed by Ellen OR to interview Celine for American TV, then I would choose the Ellen interview, no doubt. Celine is very hard to deal with.

Spotless! Sola Otra Vez was already great, but with Aun Existe Amor it got even better. Spanish speakers that are not familiar with Celine can't barely say she's not fluent in Spanish when listening to this song. The only song where she had small details where you could tell she had "a little" accent was in Mejor Decir Adiós. And some words in Amar Haciendo El Amor, but very small details.

 

Needless to say that from the group of singers of her magnitude that have recorded in Spanish and they're not fluent in the language -Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Madonna, Michael Jackson-, she's the one who has achieved the best results, by far

 

I guess that having Humberto Gatica with her in the studio all these years must have helped a little (he's Chilean), but she clearly has a natural talent when it comes to singing in other languages. It's a pity she hasn't recorded that Spanish album, really

Wow that's great to hear. Our beloved Celine singing masterfully in a second language. Of course it helps that French is her first language, so she has, the jump start over native English speakers. Once a Spanish friend of mine when.asked what do English speakers sound like to the non-native English speaker's ear, and he said said they sounded tragically like a bunch of dogs barking. Lol. And I believe that to be true, with their "Eers and Aars" can be quite harsh on the non-native's ears. And Americans are infamous with their total and savage gutting of the language.

 

You Javito, without even knowing that you are a non-native speaker, express yourself so masterfully in this your second language, even more so than some American speakers, alot of whom speak like backward neanderthals.

When I listen to English speakers from the UK, they sound so pleasant and wholesome compared to Americans'complete butchering of the language. Whenever I hear an American speaking Spanish I cringe at their tragic pronunciation. LOL.

PS: I had no idea Humberto Gatica was Chilean. For some reason I always thought he was Italian. Now I'm wondering if he has retained his Spanish or is American but with Chilean parents. If he has kept his authentic accent then I believe he.may have coached Celine with the Spanish pronunciation.

 

And I would love it if Celine were to record a full Spanish album. Maybe this is a marketing decision,but I believe that the market is there for such an album to be successful. After all Spanish is the second most widely spoken language after English. An entire continent would be purchasing such an album plus the country of Spain. I really want this project to happen. Didn't Celine once say she was pursuing such an endeavour. What happened to that idea!

Luke, actually Celine's interviews with Ellen used to be quite enjoyable in the past years and were not awkward to watch. If you go on Youtube you will see. But since Ellen in the interview asking why RC's hair was so long for the billionth time, and she got offended when Celine answered "Is that ok', Of course Celine was just trying to express herself in a cute way on American comedy talk show and Ellen took it the wrong way and got her grandma panties in a bunch, and never quite recovered.

 

Poor Celine was totally misunderstood by the "grudge-bearing" and vengeful Ellen, that she is now paying the price for retorting to that self-centered and egotistical wrench, whose show btw needs to be cancelled.

Actually, so do clips of things she's said in interviews, if it's an interview I've watched numerous times. I am way too obsessed. My friends are also pretty tired of me quoting Celine's wisdom to them

I don't really agree . . Celine and Rosie both wanted to be leaders/making people laugh, but that worked beautifully. I think it's just that Celine's and Ellen's comedy styles don't mesh at all -- Ellen's all irony; Celine's all sincerity. I also get the clear impression that Ellen's not much of a fan of Celine's music, which makes it awkward.

 

I actually think Celine is quite easy to interview -- IF you don't mind that the exact question you're asking won't be answered. Celine fills up time easily with entertaining stories, and she knows how to please an audience. For an interviewer, that's great. Will she answer a question if she doesn't want to? No -- but that's totally her right and she does it in such a pleasant way that most people don't even realize what she's doing . . I don't think she's hard to deal with at all. Certainly not compared to some other celebrities that can seem almost hostile to interviewers .

In my opinion, interviewers care for the entertainment factor, like you said, but I also believe they want their questions answered. Sometimes Celine goes off topic even in simple questions. For example, if I had 5 specific questions to ask her, then the replies would probably go this way:

 

1. Celine avoids question by singing.

2. Celine avoids question by resorting into ''physical comedy''.

3. Celine replies the question, talks too much, possibly goes out of topic, no time for questions #4 and #5.

 

I know I exaggerate here, but all these senarios are possible. She is just not easy to handle. You do not interrupt her singing, nor her jokes, nor her monologues!

 

To quote you, Celine is a good guest, if you do not mind the fact that the questions might not be answered.

I hear what you're saying, and it must be frustrating to not have questions answered if you're an interviewer. But I guess it doesn't bother me that much b/c I feel like it's Celine's right to decide what she wants to talk about (especially b/c the Qs she doesn't want to answer are often about personal things) -- and she's so nice in the way she refuses to answer that it doesn't seem quite right to call her a difficult guest.

 

And I agree that she can be over-the-top and loves being center of attention -- but I guess I still think you can have two over-the-top attention demanding personalities, and have it work . . like Celine and Julie Snyder. They get a little madcap and wild together, but it's still great chemistry and great TV. That interview where they're both going nuts making jokes about a huge carrot . . . it was adorable and hysterical. Or that Le Banquier episode on Julie's birthday -- that they did purely for fun, not promoting anything -- when they were all hamming it up with Rene as the banker. Impossible to watch it and not smile. So different from the awkwardness that is Celine and Ellen.

 

Edited to add: I also like the interviews better when she is less over-the-top. But I do think some of those over-the-top interviews work as good interviews.
