"Unknown": the Celine Dion anti-tour

I highly doubt this will ever happen now since the end of "Courage World Tour" is postponed until God only knows when. Plus, rumors of her return to Vegas are still circulating. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Just that multiple properties want her, and that initial negotiations are being prepped. Nothing major.

I think it’s important to note that if we ever did get a tour that was centred around deep cuts, rare songs and possibly even if she introduced more French material to Anglo audiences, it still wouldn’t be good enough, and there would still be whinging and moaning that she didn’t do THIS song, or that this songs arrangement wasn’t flawless or that the key wasn’t right or that she should’ve done this other song instead.. it’s impossible to please. I also genuinely do have to ask though, with the fact that Celine has signed these huge multi-million dollar touring contracts, would an unknown tour even be profitable for her or her team or the touring giant to even put effort into? Because, irregardless of personal feelings or personal demands, as an industry, a business and something which revolves entirely around money, is there truly a point?

 

IF (and that’s a huge “IF”) Celine were to fully, 100% embrace the meaning of the “anti-tour” concept, I highly doubt many members of her fanbase would complain. Even if she were to exclude coveted songs such as “Then You Look At Me,” “Sorry For Love,” and “Cherche encore,” but DID include others such as “Where Is The Love,” “Thankful,” and “Je cherche l’ombre,” the fans would still be immensely blown away by her fully embracing songs which fit the concept of an “anti-tour.”

 

The key to the success of a possible “Unknowns Tour” would be in the marketing and promotion of said tour. Those buying tickets would have to be told blatantly upfront there will be no hits. They could spin it by telling concertgoers this is the one and only time to witness these songs being performed before they go back into “the vault”, so to speak. Make the ticket buyers feel that by not going, they will be missing out on an even bigger scale once in a lifetime event. Have less cities booked so the specialness feels grander. The tour could include cities she had never performed in, or hadn’t toured to in decades. Honolulu and Anchorage could be two examples.

 

What it boils down to is conviction and authenticity on Celine’s part. If she doesn’t embrace and fully believe in the concept, it would show. The tour would fail, and she would be blasted. If the opposite were to happen on her end, it could be viewed as the most artistic, gutsy, and courageous endeavor she decided to take on since the likings of “A New Day...”

Hmm, this actually is the most realistic idea. However, it doesn't make sense for the way she does vegas.

 

Her vegas stints are too long.

 

Others have done this with vegas and made it a success, but they announced a ten show stint over 2 weeks and then its done. That's it.

 

I don't see her consistently attracting people over months for an anti tour but a one off set of quickie shows, absolutely.

 

Last summer in vegas a band i follow did this performing a rotating set all 12 nights encompassing 29 songs, the average night was 22 songs. I can say every fan I talked to which was many agreed they had been following for decades and never been so excited or energized about going to shows as that period.
