LV wouldn't have happened without Rene's love for it and relationships there. It has always been stated that the reason Celine and Rene decided to go to Vegas was because she was inspired by the show they saw in Vegas by Franco Dragone. She makes it sound as if it was like Rene said "you know what Celine, I have connections in Vegas since I'm there so often because of my love of gambling...let's find a way to move there as a couple and for your career." There was clearly an artistic-centered inspiration, not a Rene-centered one. And according to Wikipedia, it was after Franco Dragone himself reached out to Celine and Rene that the show idea happened. So Franco himself is part of the impetus, perhaps the idea of a residency initially was more his idea. Edited May 17, 2020 at 09:03 PM by PuraVida Quote

And I don't feel it was a leap on her part to say what she did at all. She stated her opinion, and it's a legitimate and informed one. He loved Vegas for a long, long time. Spent months at a time there, even going back to when Celine was still a teenager. The only reason they saw "O" was because he kept dragging her there. And I feel it was more of a family-centered decision than an artistic one. And also, Wikipedia is all well and good, but come on. I've edited that article several times myself, and I'm sure many others - with less than perfect information - have as well. Only as good as the articles people quote. And the articles people quote are only as good as as the journalists behind them, and as we all know, plenty of things have been published about Celine that don't even get the most basic, easily-verifiable facts right. It's a tool, sure, but far from a definitive one. 1 Quote

The specific reason she was in Vegas was to renew her wedding vows, and that's when she saw the Dragone show. Forgetting the Wikipedia claim of Dragone being the first one to propose a collaboration (you're right, Wiki can be edited), to say anything other than "Celine saw the Cirque de Soleil show and was flabbergasted and recieved an epiphany" is just leading people astray when it comes to the origins of her time in Vegas.... I've already stated how I feel that lady makes it sound, and you're right to say it's her opinion (not journalism, since we're talking about it). As far as I'm aware, people have published wrong things about Celine in tabloids and weekly entertainment newspapers. I think we can all recognize sensation journalism from factual journalism. And besides, this kind of reporting about a chronicle of events is pretty straightforward. You and I know that it was great timing for Celine's life and career, but she portrayed it as just what you said: Rene "dragged" her there to a residency. The reporting is all very clear, Celine turned to Rene after the show and said something, not the other way around. And kudos to Rene for being a good businessman to make that happen. It seems plausible he helped fast-track the process, but that is the "how" and not the "why". 1 Quote

But I believe only francophone singers have been suggested and listed. Not really surprising, and I bet she would still be in the lead even with non-Francophone artists. Moreover, her popularity seems to keep growing. The total attendance for her shows in France in 2021 of 241,000 is the highest she’s ever had in France in a single tour (followed by Live 2017 with around 204,000). Same for her shows in Paris (186,000 in 2021, followed by 180,102 in 1999). 2 Quote The best is yet to come...

Tina Arena sang many songs in French like Céline. The singers that rarely sing in French are not included like Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Madonna and many bands Coldplay, U2, Muse, etc... That can't be a accident. You see the whole list you'll understand. We cannot list Tina Arena and exclude major international artists. Tina Arena is considered francophone. I wonder how Celine would do in a USA poll...I think if it was like an election where everyone must vote, then she would have the most #1 votes because you'd include older generations rather than just 18-30.
