AdrienneM Posted July 14, 2019 at 04:02 PM Posted July 14, 2019 at 04:02 PM She (well, they), are certainly getting better, but many of her posts are painfully cheesy PR. The lack of authenticity, lack of engagement with others on social media, and wooden PR videos (like those posted after the end of Vegas), aren't really helping. That's not the sort of thing that resonates on social media. In contrast, Mariah knows how to play the game -Javascript is not enabled OR refresh the page to viewClick here to view the Tweet Every now and then, they deliver something great. But generally, it's just impersonal marketing that feels more forced than it feels genuine.I get it if Celine doesn't want to engage or opt into this - it's a commitment and it takes a willingness to share a lot of your life (and while Celine claims to be an open book, I think she actually keeps her cards very close to her chest in most regards - understandably). But if they stay on this status quo PR path, she's never going to reach truly significant follower numbers. Even if she just hired someone who “pretended” to be her on social media, or even told pepe or SOMEONE exactly what she wanted to say or post about... i feel like shes rather kept out of the loop by her team who handle her socials Quote

He couldn't have been more than 15 years old. It made me laugh because I legit come across something Celine related everytime I go out, I can't escape her. chocolatechip15 Posted July 24, 2019 at 02:14 AM Posted July 24, 2019 at 02:14 AM I understand Celine's POV, but Rene I can't. He watched her grow up and the moment she was legal he went for it, idk. But it wasn’t the moment she was legal - the 18th birthday nonsense was something made up by the comedian. Celine has always said that their first encounter was on the night of the Eurovision Song Contest, when she was 20 - 2+ years after being legal, during a time that, as scielle said, Rene spent long periods of time away from her and Celine was actively trying to make a sexier image for herself and had been pursuing Rene for some time. 2 Quote
chocolatechip15 Posted July 24, 2019 at 02:28 AM Posted July 24, 2019 at 02:28 AM P.S. I often wonder about those Georges-Hébert Germain books - if they were rewritten now, would she put half the stuff that's in them out there for public consumption? Or would they be presented entirely differently now?I do think that entire thing was premature (both hers, and Rene's GHG books) - but I guess it was all in the spirit of "striking while the iron is hot".I wish she had waited, and written / had something ghost-written now, not 20 years ago... I still think the best Celine book was the Denise Bombardier one. Though perhaps not as revelatory as the others, at least it doesn't read like it was put together by her PR team! I think Celine is much more private now than when she was younger- I agree that the bios would be quite different. The ‘97 Germain book is so full of fawning PR nonsense that it’s sometimes hard to read - but there’s also a lot of interesting meaty details in it. My favorite bio is My Story My Dream. Yes, ghostwritten and somewhat simplistic- but it feels less PR-like and more like, well, a story. More like her voice. I do think she comes across kind of sheltered/naive in it, but I also think that’s part of who she is/was. I thought the Denise Bombardier book was kind of annoying. She was trying too hard to find the lonely/sad side of Celine - while she touched on truths, I felt like she tried too hard to fit everything into her view of Celine. Quote

She did some interview quite a while back and she was asked something about her virginity or something to that context and she said, 'oh now you're making me blush but yes I was using all my my teenage feminine ways'. Paraphrasing big time here but does anyone else remember that? What I mean is she always pursued him not vise versa so the story goes. Seems low key as an obsession to me I don't think she "hates" her, per se, but is definitely not a fan.But Thomas Leblanc, who is the other part of the act, loves her, so I think they play off each other. That said, yes, I agree. Not comfortable with Tranna making a career off of it. I haven't seen the show so can't comment on it, but if their podcast is anything to go by... well I think it's the sort of show that would raise a lot of eyebrows.(See my post here. They have a podcast called Chosen Family and did an entire Celine-themed episode around her 50th B-day and it's, well, a lot. Proceed with caution!) Edited July 26, 2019 at 06:01 AM by scielle Quote

Ajax Posted July 31, 2019 at 12:32 PM Posted July 31, 2019 at 12:32 PM This just shows how conservative her image was. I mean, when the arguments are clothes, and a Joke with the word *CENSORED*...And..... That's it.This does not show how Celine became "too much", that just demonstrates how her past image was being controled and outrageously polished. And, by the way we heard that Céline was too much since she started her carrer. So, it would tend to show that she is getting closer to her inner self than the opposite. Those arguments are so weak that I still think we are witnessing a typical/natural human reaction : As Celine is getting more praised in US and Europe, we will see more and more love/hate (especially "hate") article coming from her hometown. That's usually how it works. I'm always very carefull not being too quick to yell about sexism, but at the end this is what it is. Because, we are talking about what a woman is wearing and how she looks. The subject of Celine changing, evolving after René's death is super interesting, no problem about that. Still, can we discuss that taking another angle than just how a woman of 50 looks ? Did she change mentally ? Is she becoming imbued ? less sincere, giving less time to her fans, acting like a *CENSORED* ? That's where journalist should investigate if they are interested in this subject. This girl seems to prefer when Celine was being protected like she said, by an old paternalist figure. Cause a woman needs to be protected of course. What about that ? That article stinks from the biginning to the end. 4 Quote
Dancing_Queen Posted July 31, 2019 at 12:36 PM Posted July 31, 2019 at 12:36 PM It's been 3 years since she's done the media rounds in Quêbec and it's starting to show. They can be her biggest defenders but sometimes she'll have to throw them a bone and I feel that she's neglected them a bit the last few years. She probably just needs to do some interviews, charm their @sses off and show them she's still 'their' Céline. I'm sure that would go a long way. 2 Quote
