I don't regularly listen to any radio, except for one show - CBC's Q, a daily culture / arts magazine. Friday's episode had an interesting segment - opened and closed with Power of Love, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of it topping the US Billboard charts - and went on to discuss the current state of the love / power ballad. They did a mini study of the charts in the mid-90s, and found that most (~70%) of #1 songs were love ballads. Then discussed why that's not the case anymore and whether pop culture is ready for the return of The Ballad.
