Very country club. On that note, maybe Celine can pop by Wimbledon while in London for some strawberries & cream & tennis skirts (because we know how she likes to show off dem legs!). I don't think making jokes about the age gap is offensive but comparing Rene to R. Kelly is. That is going too far. In reference to the quotes from Celine in the article, I personally don't find the age gap to be an issue when it came to her and Rene (or any age gap relationship) it's the fact he watched her grow up. I can't imagine a child I've been close to since they were a pre-teen and have watched grow up coming to me and saying they have feelings for me and just accept it or develop feelings for them? I wouldn't care if they are of age when they confess their feelings, I can't understand that. That's the part that is disturbing to me and I have a hard time wrapping my head around. I understand Celine's POV, but Rene I can't. He watched her grow up and the moment she was legal he went for it, idk. If I had been Celine's mom and Cemine told me she had strong feelings for this man I would have tried to get her away from him, find her another manager. I'm not saying Rene was a bad man, he did a lot of good for her and loved her but it'll always be something I can't agree with. But it's no ones place to agree or disagree with cause what's done is done and once Celine was an adult (although I'd hardly consider someone of 18-20 an "adult", especially one as protected as Celine was) there was no stopping her from making her own decisions, and with her personality more so. Yeah, he watched her grow up... but not really. Don't forget there was a year or so there, in her late teens / shortly before Incognito era iirc, when they basically didn't see each other at all. Manon had filed for divorce, remarried, moved to California, I believe, and presumably had taken the kids with her, so there was a lot going on in his personal life that he needed to deal with. I don't think he was even in Canada for much of that time - understand he spent a good chunk of a year in Vegas. And then he came back and Celine was this "grown woman with legs up to here" - I don't remember whose quote that is, but it stuck with me (think it was Francine Chaloult, or someone else close to her). And it's not like he went into it unconflicted, given what he had been confiding to Eddy Marnay around that time. So no, given some of the above, it all never really made me uncomfortable. Unusual, sure, but understandable under the circumstances. And certainly not from her POV - she was always surrounded by much older family (don't forget her sister was in her 20s and pregnant at the same time Therese was pregnant with Celine), so I think it all felt entirely natural for her. In any case, we'll never know the full story beyond what they chose to share in the various books.I sometimes wish she'd address it, because it makes me sad people assume the worst about him because they only know the headline numbers - that they met when she was 12 and he 38.But then I think "Hell, no, why should she address it?! It's nobody's business!" And yeah, the R Kelly comparison is not remotely funny and waaaay over the line. Edited July 2, 2019 at 09:25 PM by scielle 3 Quote
scielle Posted July 2, 2019 at 09:54 PM Posted July 2, 2019 at 09:54 PM (edited) P.S. I often wonder about those Georges-Hébert Germain books - if they were rewritten now, would she put half the stuff that's in them out there for public consumption? Or would they be presented entirely differently now?I do think that entire thing was premature (both hers, and Rene's GHG books) - but I guess it was all in the spirit of "striking while the iron is hot".I wish she had waited, and written / had something ghost-written now, not 20 years ago... I still think the best Celine book was the Denise Bombardier one. Though perhaps not as revelatory as the others, at least it doesn't read like it was put together by her PR team! Popular Post scielle Posted July 8, 2019 at 07:49 PM Popular Post Posted July 8, 2019 at 07:49 PM New from Lainey, re Paris and London - https://www.laineygossip.com/celine-dions-performance-in-london-only-s***-that-matters/56041 "And they say she sings music for old people?! These are not old faces. This is the youth mobilising for a legend who is now more popular than she’s ever been before – and it’s not like she hasn’t been doing this for 30 years. But even those who weren’t alive when she released her first songs know all the words. Celine has retained her audience and she continues to attract new fans who are going back to discover the music. This is the goal for all entertainers: relevance. Celine Dion is RELEVANT. What’s fascinating is that her relevance combines current culture, like a certain of-the-momentness and trendiness, while maintaining constancy. There were people, especially here in Canada, who used to laugh at Celine, because she was never “cool”. But who is cooler now than Celine?" 11 Quote
Bruno Portugal Posted July 13, 2019 at 10:55 AM Posted July 13, 2019 at 10:55 AM Something I don't understand is the very low number of Celine followers on Instagram. Only recently has reached 3.5 million, which for her status is a small number of people, especially when we see so many young people at her concerts and the world again speaks of Celine Dion. Her team should invest more in this, publishing more photos and videos. There is so much amazing material to share but it seems they opt for the most obvious and less spectacular, with exceptions like the photos of the beautiful green and yellow dresses in Hyde Park or the pool in Malaysia. 1 Quote My Webpage >>> TRIBUTE TO CELINE DION

She (well, they), are certainly getting better, but many of her posts are painfully cheesy PR. The lack of authenticity, lack of engagement with others on social media, and wooden PR videos (like those posted after the end of Vegas), aren't really helping. That's not the sort of thing that resonates on social media. In contrast, Mariah knows how to play the game -Javascript is not enabled OR refresh the page to viewClick here to view the Tweet Every now and then, they deliver something great. But generally, it's just impersonal marketing that feels more forced than it feels genuine.I get it if Celine doesn't want to engage or opt into this - it's a commitment and it takes a willingness to share a lot of your life (and while Celine claims to be an open book, I think she actually keeps her cards very close to her chest in most regards - understandably). But if they stay on this status quo PR path, she's never going to reach truly significant follower numbers. 4 Quote
