I'm almost positive it's live. It was unheard of to lip on The Tonight Show in the 90s, right? At least for Celine anyway, I doubt she would ever lip there. And her mannerisms seem like "live" Celine. The only comparison I know of is this the performance below...and I hear very minor differences between them (the quality doesn't help) but the easiest tell is the very ending how she finishes the final "nothing broken but my heart"

After tracking down a higher quality video of that performance, I determined it IS live and went back and edited my post. Her voice was shockingly similar to the studio version - I know that shouldn’t surprise me, but it did. It’s just so crystal clear.

Yeah...I still don't know how she did/does it, sounding so darn close to recordings.

I think people too often forget about the 1997 recordings we have from Berlin. Decent fan video of some of the best songs, plus I just love the energy the crowd seemed to have. Putting BYLM twice because the shorter one has the good quality.

Yeah you're absolutely right! The whole arrangement is spot on. I remember when I first listened to this show I thought "why can't it sound like this on her own shows".

I think it sounds fun, engaging, true to the original but still different. And the strings adds to the songs great. Thanks for the reminder

Those shows annoy me how she sings live on duets and everything is clearly ready to go for live and all the solos lipped. Always good enough vocals on the duets too to really want the solos live

I think this was the best Celine looked since the start of the new millenium. In the 90s, 90-92 and '99 were her best years also.

Totally agree.. which is why it feels so weird to say this, but... Céline is embarrassingly off-key when she comes in at 1:00. But then she sounds amazing during the bridge. After that, it’s an absolute trainwreck of a duet and I can’t tell who’s on and who’s off!

oh cool... 😊 well i like it, i do not really know her french songs as well as her english ones (as i DO NOT know how to speak french @ all lol, i had never taken french classes @ my high school as it was not offered, only spanish was offered back then!) but nonetheless its a nice song!

 

well anyway thanks for the find... its really GREAT to find nice unreleased songs & other celine-related stuff during this never-ending quarantine... esp. since lord knows when we will hear from celine & co. until concerts are back up & running lol... 😋

BTW, quarantine has been good to Mariah's voice. Hope one day she finds a balance with her limitations. Her technique is so good.

Of course it is live. There are three NBBMH performances and all three sound different.

 

All her tonight show performances have been live. For the most part, her lipping on us tv shows is rare. Excluding tv specials and awards shows it is extremely rare. Mhwgo on the view and taking chances on a soap opera are two examples i can think of.

 

As for the videos tracey shared...

Zurich, london, milan, zenith, whatever they're all the same show sent to various radio for promo. It honestly is not new and constantly gets shared and reshared under different names.

 

They are all Live in Zürich. Sony released a Promo Live CD in 1996.
