Thank you for your insight into the matter! One thing I did want to note though. I actually was able to buy D’elles from a US Best Buy in 2009. Not sure if it had only recently been available there, but I was surprised to see it.

 

“D’elles” was only available as an import in the U.S. You could buy it, but it wasn’t a domestic product like regular versions of “The French Album” and “S’il suffisait d’aimer.”

Even an iconic album like SSDA is not on Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube... presumably every other streaming platform.

 

I mean, a bunch of no-name (comparatively to Celine) foreign language artists are on these platforms, but Celine - one of the biggest acts ever in both English and French - is not?

It's simple. They're slowly trying to monetize her catalog on Youtube, the way they're doing on Spotify.

I completely agree. For someone who got a prestigious honor from France for bringing the French language to the world, she sure has gone out of her way to make sure the opposite occurs. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - the way Celine treats her French songs comes across as insanely apologetic when in non-Francophone territories. I'm not sure if this was all Rene's doing when he was alive and her manager, but I sure as hell hope to see things change once the current Vegas residency closes.

I am beyond ecstatic they decided to include "Super Love" as part of the upload process! This gives me hope that once they reach "Let's Talk About Love," they'll also upload "Be The Man" and "Amar haciendo el amor." (Though, "Amar haciendo el amor" could be associated with "The Collector's Series - Volume One," too.) As well as "Your Light" and "(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman" for "Falling Into You," and "Just Walk Away" for "The Colour Of My Love." (I'm guessing they would associate "Sola otra vez" with "The Collector's Series - Volume One" so they can simply get away with calling it "All By Myself (Spanish Version)."

 

I hope they decide to also upload her French material in audio video form, too. It would be nice to be able to see songs like "Cherche encore," "Le vol d'un ange," "Terre," "Les blues du businessman," and "Tous les secrets" added to her official YouTube page.

I do believe for Vegas anyway shes been told to limit the french songs in her set, hence why in 16 years she’s performed only 3 different songs in french.

 

On tour though there isnt much of an explanation, i guess it may have been Rene. Along with sticking to the original melody, as close to the album version as possible with as little ad libs as possible, short speechs and the like, not singing in french in anglophone territories seems about right lol.

They only appear on her channel due to YouTube’s messy new way of combining videos of an artist into one channel, whether the videos are officially endorsed by the artist or not. Do they work? Yes, but that’s not what I’m driving at.
