I'm so confused about it, and I LOVE it! Where and when was that? AND why does she not always sing it live... hey claudette, at 1:57 there is a short clipping where you can see a poster or whatever with: "02 Arena London May 8" but what did you mean that she does not always sing it live. in my opinion: THIS performance she sang totally live O, thanks That's my point. In that clip she sings it live (and it sounds great), while most of the other performances of this song is not live... Why? http://i993.photobucket.com/albums/af51/ClaudetteRobinson/esme.jpg

Well I just guess this song might be hard to sing as an opener (very high??!). Maybe there are days where her voice isn't in the shape. Thank god she's a human being and with shows around the globe, sometimes nearly every day - she needs to give her voice some rest. However - we all know Celine's beautiful voice and that she doesn't belong to these singers who only sound good because of "recording-magic". For me she doesn't have to proof it with EVERY song in the show! I was happy seeing her live in Vienna and I didn't care that much that she allegedly didn't sing IDAN live ... But apart from that: If you don't already know this clip: please watch it!!!! I cried as I saw it (starts at 0:40) ! Because you can see under which pressure she was and is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmJUiaz25i8...player_embedded

I just wanted to give her a hug... Forget about her voice, it is clear that she had a fever and a headache. She should have been in bed not on stage. I don't care if she sometimes lips IDAN, I was just wondering... I understand that she has to give her voice a rest from time to time and I'm fine with it. I think another reason why she sometimes lips that song is to give herself a chance to find her feet and get over the nervousness... Even though Celine has performed many times before, she still gets nervous before a show and you can see it. But like you said, she is only human. I saw her twice here in SA and it was the best concerts I've ever been to... There is no doubt in my mind that she is the best of the best! Love her! http://i993.photobucket.com/albums/af51/ClaudetteRobinson/esme.jpg

CelineFanInSoCal Posted March 14, 2009 at 03:08 AM Posted March 14, 2009 at 03:08 AM OMG. That IDAN vid is crap. It's vocals from The Today Show when she had her little yellow hairdo synced with a recent vid from the tour. I saw it online a few days ago and tried to comment on it, but the poster of the vid took it down. LOL As for the ABM stuff.... um, yeah, she's live until the big ANYMORE, at which point the backing vocals starts. She is, however, singing WITH the backing vocals. You can hear the word ANYMORE start twice as she isn't in sync with the track, or it's too loud at first or something, but you can hear her singing with it during the "any" in anymore. So I guess that's how she's doing it when she's sick or something, otherwise, we'd all be able to tell what's lipped and what's not. This is kinda how Madonna does, and some rappers and stuff, where they sing along with the backing track... interesting that Celine's not just lipping to it, but singing with it.

LMAO, yeah, I've seen that Britney thing before... it's SCARY! With Brit, she's thinking her mic's turned off and is trying her hardest to keep with the music, and the style of lipping that she's using makes people think she's really singing, opposed to silently moving her lips to the words. With Celine, I'm thinking she uses similar techniques for some songs, considering her throat looks like she's actually singing. During the ABM clip from Star Academie, it's obvious to me that she's singing live and using a backing vocal during the big "anymore" note to help things along. She's singing with the backing vocal and her sound guy mixes the sounds, but in the clip we saw, the initial mix wasn't that great and we heard more of the backing vocal first. I know there are plenty of fans that "just don't want to hear it", but I think it's all part of Celine's technique, and she's been doing stuff like this for years, all as a part of her regime to protect/sooth/pamper her voice. It's a huge song to sing. Why risk the entire number's appeal on one note [the one note everyone is wanting to hear], when all you gotta do is mix in a little pre-recorded vocals to boost it up and make it closer to perfect. We all know Celine strives for perfection, which, I think, is part of why her and Rene make the choices to incorporate miming into the show, as well as keep certain music styles for so long. It's been a while since Celine Inc has provided us with proof of lip-syncing, rather than fans recording it at live shows and posting it online. You've got to notice that the sound gets richer, thicker, heavier, whatever you want to call it, during the first part of "anymore". It's as though there are two of her singing for a split second, not to mention the goofy eye balls and facial expression that she's very much been using during these lipped numbers. We know what she looks like when she sings tougher notes, and it's not a bug-eyed face of "i think i just crapped my pants", but it's a eye squeezed shut look of "lemme get this out with a fury". I'm just not buying all the hype anymore. Sure, she's still my fave, moves me to tears and claps of joy, but it's not the same when so much is relying on older pre-recorded voice samples. Gggrrrr....

Another thing, the quality of the sound of that video where you posted all your ''I think I know everything'' comments is CRAP. I think that is why you hear two anymore'sThat note IS lipped, and it's been lipped since the beginning of the tour, she sang it live only at the very first concert in South Africa, and it's obvious that the note is really different than the playback version. You can hear her voice crack on EVERY live recording of that note. When you can't hear it, it's because of the crappy sound of the video, but in pretty much any vids of that song, you can hear it clearly. And no, she doesn't sing WITH the playback. There are artists who use this technique (Madonna and all...), but it's because they can do it with their music style, where a lot of voices and sounds are mixed together to give that "fuller" sound. In Celine's songs, there is ONE voice (of course there are back vocals, but they don't sing the entire song). And live, you hear ONE voice, and as Celine's microphone is always turned on (to be able to talk to the audience, make some noises, or sing if something goes wrong with the playback like we saw in Vienna with IDAN), she can't sing OVER the playback, because then we would hear 2 distinct voices, and it would sound really bad. I mean, when listening to a Celine Dion song, it's pretty easy to tell that there is only 1 person singing, so it's impossible that she sing over the playback in her shows. The fact that we can hear 2 distinct voices at the very beginning of "Anymore" in the Phoenix video is probably because she was told to anticipate that note, just in case the playback doesn't kick in correctly. But as soon as she hears the playback note, she stop singing. Or maybe she was just too much into her performance, that she forgot about the playback for a second and started to sing the note. Really, I don't see why she would playback that much and sing OVER the playback, that just doesn't make sense. And I'm not saying all this because "I think I know everything" or stuff like that, I'm a professional musician, I organize big shows, I work with Cirque du Soleil, and I studied sound technique for many years, so I think I know what I'm talking about, and I know what you can and can not do during live performances.

Gggrrrr.... That note is not lipped. In that footage of ABM in Phoenix you can clearly hear her voice crack on that note. Compare it with other performances of ABM. Another thing, the quality of the sound of that video where you posted all your ''I think I know everything'' comments is CRAP. I think that is why you hear two anymore'sThe highnote always sounds a little different to me, so if it is ALWAYS lipped, then she must sing with it. Also, it sounds so live, and the tone of it goes so perfectly with her natural 'power' voice, it's perfect. At least we know she can do it. I really don't have issue with it. I love ABM but it's not my favorite song. Her Fade Away, It's a Man's World, and Alone notes are more impressive to me. http://68.media.tumblr.com/0215da4dacb45f3375c9bf63cb89e9c3/tumblr_o3edqjdnpP1s2lrfeo1_1280.png
Scramasboy Posted March 15, 2009 at 12:18 AM Posted March 15, 2009 at 12:18 AM Is there any recent videos in which she sings IDAN live (except on Oprah)? Today Show 2007 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGgGuEBFi_E One of only two live performances of this song! (I don't count the Oprah thing).I love that performance. I'v heard that it supposed to be a warm up, but thats hard to believe. Loved the "Inside" note. And the other one? [live]? http://68.media.tumblr.com/0215da4dacb45f3375c9bf63cb89e9c3/tumblr_o3edqjdnpP1s2lrfeo1_1280.png

Claudette Posted March 15, 2009 at 01:24 AM Posted March 15, 2009 at 01:24 AM OMG. This is kinda how Madonna does, and some rappers and stuff, where they sing along with the backing track... interesting that Celine's not just lipping to it, but singing with it. dear roberry! I'm sorry I can't hear it ... or maybe I don't want to hear it. but it's not that long ago as I red how this thing works what you descibed. and then someone called my attention to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ak1cpi74RM .... and I was shocked!!!! and I thougth be myself: whenever celine is lipping - I really don't care, because there are gallaxies between her and mrs. spears. I'm sorry but I don't hear her voice break like in the Phoenix video in these videos... AND you can clearly hear her voice in the microphone. But if you want to believe that she lips that note, go ahead... http://i993.photobucket.com/albums/af51/ClaudetteRobinson/esme.jpg

Tyler1991 Posted March 15, 2009 at 03:00 AM Posted March 15, 2009 at 03:00 AM All By Myself is the one song that it is so hard to understand whether or not it's lipped and such. What We Know- It WAS Live on the Feb 14th Show- It was NOT live on every show after that What We Don't Know- What is live, what isn't? (Sometimes it is big note only, sometimes it is big note and everything after it)- Does she sing along with it?- When was this new playback recorded?
CelineFanInSoCal Posted March 15, 2009 at 04:07 AM Posted March 15, 2009 at 04:07 AM Yuk. This is one of those topics that people would argue till they passed out, only to be revived at the same point in the debate, with no ground made either way. What should be understood at this point is that Celine lip-syncs, and is pretty darned good at it, regardless of what techniques she uses while on stage. As for the two ABM vids that were provided for our review to show that they were different, well, I watched them both independently, and then synced them and watched them as the same time. The only differences to the performances were the marked differences that everyone uses to claim that it's all live. There are some obvious vocal flourishes that set the two apart, however, THE notes/word in question, were the EXACT same in both vids... they're the EXACT same in almost all the vids available on youtube. Let's just THINK about this, logically... [LOL, right?!] The member above, calmar, I believe, is very accurate. IF ONLY the common fan knew the amount of flexibility and ease there is in big vocal productions, and the amount of creativity that can go into the finished product with regards to mixing sounds, tracks, vocals and instruments. We've seen her sound man in action on the A New Day... DVD Secrets section. He's a hard working man, who has a sound board and full-time close-up view of Celine's face during the ENTIRE show. He knows when she has the mic near her mouth and when she doesn't; he knows the little signals that he and Celine use to communicate with each other; he knows how to mix her vocals for a polished finished product that he, Celine and Rene have all agreed on and he knows the parts of songs that are being lipped to and what's live and is able to make sure it goes off with not too many hiccups [as we've all seen hiccups before]. No live show is as simple as plugging up the mics and instruments into the sound system and playing/singing songs; nowadays there is so much digital imagination involved that the possibilities are ENDLESS, which is why everyone should be open to the idea that they're using it to their advantage with her lip-synced numbers. Rather than everyone getting all worked up over the topic, why can't we at least discuss that it is a possibility and be excited that Celine Inc is using technology like this. It's probably the most forward thinking, advanced thing that they're doing at the moment. LOL.
Jacqui Posted March 15, 2009 at 05:44 AM Posted March 15, 2009 at 05:44 AM Yuk. This is one of those topics that people would argue till they passed out, only to be revived at the same point in the debate, with no ground made either way. I think that's the truest thing anyone has ever said about all this. It's been argued so much, my head spins just reading it. So much, that I don't even care anymore if she does or doesn't lip sync. Sure, I have my own opinions, but I love her either way and I still choose to be here regardless so I'm not going to spend all my time complaining. There's no way everyone will ever agree, so we might as well let it goooo LOL.

I'm sorry but I don't hear her voice break like in the Phoenix video in these videos... AND you can clearly hear her voice in the microphone. But if you want to believe that she lips that note, go ahead...When listening to it with good quality speakers, you can clearly hear her voice cracking at exactly 0:42 in both videos. Let's just agree to disagree... http://i993.photobucket.com/albums/af51/ClaudetteRobinson/esme.jpg
