If you really want to do it anyway, you should all keep your money for when Celine releases a new single! It would make more sense.

PQTME is #41 this week

Top 100 is cool, especially 20 years later. It's not #1 but still cool it got somewhere.

yes but what does it say when a big bunch of Celine fans buy a song they already have in their collection. What does that say about the populairity of that song? nothing. It only shows how far people can go for their idol.

But the weird thing is.... I read that Rihanna is no 3 with 3500 something sales and the RH claim they bought 4100 times PQTME.... So something fishy is going on....

I hope this helps people see what a foolish mission this was and, next time they want to do something to show Celine how much they love and support her, they donate that same amount of money to her Cystic Fibrosis foundation instead. It's a cause near and dear to her heart and would mean so much to her. Or to cancer research. We all know Celine, helping her 20 yr old single doesn't mean a thing to her. Her family means everything.

Good point. Do you have any idea/thought why the song only reached #41 when more than 4.000 copies were bought?

I don't know how the singles charts in France work, but in the USA the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart is based on sales AND airplay. If there isn't airplay to support a song then it won't chart very high unless sales are HUGE - not average.

None. I have no idea how singles get charted. Apparently, neither did the Red Heads when they asked everyone for their money!

Which, I believe, is illegal. Here's hoping the Red Heads don't get in any legal problems for this.

I read some articles saying some europe itunes has started a refund policy last year, where users could refund songs that they purchased within 14 days. When the policy was implemented, some ppl did question whether that would help people manipulate the chart results, and the folks at itune says they could see that, but they think it is more important to give users the choice of refund than worrying about chart results. I wonder if the red heads could refund those purchases, and make a donation instead.

Charts nowadays also consists of YouTube views, Spotify streams, radio airplay etc! I don't think they took that into account. Actual sales are a very small proportion of the chart unfortunately :(

 

The singles charts in France are compiled currently using sales data only.

Going off topic a bit, i just saw the pic which they used for the album cover of Deux on the official site, and i always thought she was wearing a black jacket. Quite surprising to find out that it is not black originally.

Yes they made it!!!!

That's an amazing news! They took a chance and they were right! I read the explanation about the results, they've been (intentionally?) misladed by ITunes people.

Now we know what it takes to get a number #1.

 

Maybe next time for the MHWGO 20th Anniversary! :lol:

 

I am really happy I was part of it. That was pretty easy, super fun, and the conclusion is really satisfiying.

 

PS : "I knew it would be too easy", "thank god I didn't waste my money", "I knew it was tricky".... Really guys??! Righhhhht.

No, it got to Number 8. Because the sales were apparently split across two weeks because iTunes only counts it for the charts when its actually downloaded, not just when its bought.

 

These are rules iTunes put in place to prevent gaming of the charts. (I think there's also a rule about how many singles can count from one credit card). I get that the Red Heads were trying to do something nice, but I think its a good thing that you can't have one group just throw money at a single and get it to No. 1. Imagine if record companies started doing that? The charts would be meaningless.
