They ask if the worst is behind them and she could have said everything was okay, but told the truth saying that new problems start and that Rene is having trouble eating. I feel for them. I am glad they know that their fanbase is beside them all the way. My favorite part is when.they asked if she thought about stopping her career and she said "no. That would be like stopping my life. Popular Post Jessyka Posted July 31, 2014 at 02:36 PM Popular Post Posted July 31, 2014 at 02:36 PM It definitely was one of the most difficult interviews to read, in my opinion. My eyes were watering, feeling for her and her children. It only shows that we never know what's going on in her life for sure. She's very private and she's very good at keeping things to herself. But it made me admire her even more. She's a very strong woman and I couldn't be prouder to be her fan. 12 Quote http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff5/backup674/Banners/Image1.jpg
dj4celine Posted July 31, 2014 at 03:00 PM Posted July 31, 2014 at 03:00 PM The images are stunning! But reading the interview was very, very difficult indeed! Kudos to Céline for putting up a brave face in those difficult times and really managing the entire family, especially during the holidays. Candid and open was the interview. I mean, she's candid most of the times, but this reminded me of some of the interviews she did before taking the hiatus after Rene's first bout with cancer. Behind all the superstar status and celebrity life, she's still a human and I absolutely respect her for that. Now coming to the later part of the interview, I am not sure how to react regarding the concept of the show. It is still a classy show and she said they'll keep on evolving it over time but I don't know how she's gonna sell out with the same concept for so many years. But I think they'll update the set list and I reckon they should be a little more adventurous with it at least. 3 Quote
Popular Post NicoNV Posted July 31, 2014 at 03:02 PM Popular Post Posted July 31, 2014 at 03:02 PM (edited) I will try to do a full translation later. This new app for the board makes posting a bit difficult. I will just add a quick summary of a few points: 1. Rene is out of danger. As posted above, he is dealing with issues (like eating), but he is in physical therapy and will get better over the next few months. But, importantly he is out of danger. She said this brought them closer and they are more in love then ever before. 2. As to him not being her manager, this was really for him. She said he is the best manager in the world. His friend Pierre advised him to delegate more. He will continue to focus on her artistic development, but Aldo has been hired as the manager that will travel with her. She doesn't see this as an issue, as she has been on a world tour alone in the past. Rene will plan things, Celine will travel with Aldo to carry out plans. 3. She wants fewer everything: fewer projects, fewer people (I think she means staff) fewer houses. She wants to simplify her life so she can enjoy more of it. 4. Nelson is like Rene, he is confident. Eddy is like RC was, and needs to be reassured a bit. RC is very happy Rene is cancer free. They play together a lot, and Rene attends most of RCs games (hockey and baseball) 5. This was funny: when she dressed up to water ski in the bathing suit, she also had heels on. She went out to greet Rene in the parking lot like that. Julie said it's great after 19 years of marriage they are still like that. Celine said she wanted his opinion on the outfit. She thought he might say no. But, he didn't. Instead, he laughed and said something like he would remember the image She said she loves to surprise him. There is more, but I can't do a full translation right now. I will try to work on it tonight. She said being on stage makes her feel better, and Vegas helped with that during this time. She hasn't felt this free in times past. She knows the best is yet to come. Please note above are just summaries. Like I said, I will work on a full translation tonight. Their struggle is clear, and not easy. But, they seem to have priorities straight in their life. The entire article was moving. God bless them! Edited July 31, 2014 at 03:09 PM by NicoNV 11 Quote

And it happens to be that I live in a place he painted a few of his works I'm sure almost everyone knows houses on the Zaan River at Zaandam, it happens to be that I live so close to that house, and yes it is still there! (see photo) I don't know if it has been said but in this article they mentioned that it's Celine who imagined the setting based on a Manet painting (Dejeuner sur l'herbe) and a flower market. Celine is definitely very creative! Popular Post NicoNV Posted August 1, 2014 at 12:40 AM Popular Post Posted August 1, 2014 at 12:40 AM This is an amateur translation, so keep that in mind. Sometimes a literal translation does not work out so well, which is why some of it requires more interpretation. But, I feel comfortable that I understood the article. However, if I messed up anything a great deal, please feel free to correct it! If I do a question and answer, I will just mark it by Q & A. I tried to summarize some parts, but for some questions, I just left them in a Question/Answer format. This first round has been provided before, but I thought if I was going to go through it all, I might as well start in the beginning. It's just how my mind works. I will do the other two pages later tonight. Sorry for the delay! This is taking a bit longer than I thought it would. But, I will get the missing pages up tonight, it will just be a bit later. I tried sticking to third person, as opposed to first-person, because this is mostly a summary not literal translation. But, I am sure I lost track of that at times, so apologies for switching back and forth! I do not have time to proof read it now I will try my best to be more consistent with the next two pages (but, those will not be ready until late tonight). Photo where Celine is dancing by the Merry-Go-Round:The quote above the photo says: "I had to tighten the screw a little but everything is back to normal and I am proud of RC." (This gets addressed just a bit in the interview, so read on! )The text on the left appears to relate to the photo where RC was putting on Celine's shoe, and the top of that text said that RC was willing to play Prince Charming in that photograph. The photographs recreate different paintings (summarized version. But, this was address in an article someone else posted in this thread as well). She agreed to be Romy's godmother. Celine is a perfectionist, and as a result takes her role of godmother seriously. In honor of Romy's baptism, Celine organized the day. She acted as mother-hen (the mother hen is a literal translation). She had musicians, and fruits, and treats, and games. The baptism was in a covered tent, and a member of the local clergy (literal translation of parish) came to celebrate the baptism. But, after the baptism, there was a big meal out in the open air, and games. Interview page 1 (page 49 of the magazine):Top text, opening quote: Rene was weak, and she was afraid to lose him. But, at the same time, she had to put up and decorate a Christmas tree, and wrap presents. (This gets addressed a bit further on as well).Julie starting by wishing her good health, and a greeting. She asked her to recount when and how she found out Rene had cancer (referring to this battle with cancer, not his battle in 1999): Celine said: It was in LA, she was going to do the Voice. During that same day, Rene had gone to see his doctor. Q: Was it a routine check-up?A: He had an abscess in his mouth, just before they left Europe. The abscess was not clearing up. But, they didn't think "oh' it's cancer." His first cancer was in 1999, and he had been in remission a long time. But, people who have had cancer always live with that fear. Q: Was Rene fatigued?A: No. He was a little worried. She had him see her doctor, Dr. Abitol, in Paris, and Rene received some antibiotics. But, he was told to get an MRI when he returned to the United States. The abscesses got a little smaller, but didn't go away. Rene then went to see Celine's doctor in LA, and had a biopsy taken. When she was doing the Voice, she was having a nice time catching up with Christina Aguilera, and just chatting. At one point her agent in America and Rene had her go to the dressing room, and they shut the door. She knew something was wrong. Rene said he had cancer. She didn't cry. She didn't know what to feel. Time stood still. He went to the doctor to see if anything spread. If it made it to his jaw bone, he needed to undergo a 12 to 13 hour surgery. All of the tests kept confirming cancer (I am guessing at different spots, the way it sounds, but all in his mouth/throat area). But, the jaw bone was fine. No cancer in his jaw bone. She said that was the first good news. Rene insisted she/wanted her to perform at the Voice as if nothing happened. She did perform on the Voice. She said finding out he had no cancer in her jaw bone let her finally breathe.****this timeline may be a bit out of order as it is a summary. I believe the tests were taken right away after he said she had cancer, but before her Voice performance. But, I am not sure, but I think they didn't know if it was in his jaw or not until after the Voice was over. I read it has, she found out he had cancer. Then, they went to the hospital together, she made sure he had everything he needed. He demanded she fulfill her obligation to perform at the Voice finale. Then she talked about the tissue tests, and finally finding out he did not have cancer in his jawbone.***** Q: How did you get through the holidays?A: RC was in Utah, he is only 13. They did not want to cut his holiday short, so they didn't tel him right away. The twins were with her, and she was dealing with questions like "where is daddy?" She would tell them that he had a bad throat, but was taking vitamins and yogurt, and she was going to go with him when he took vitamins but would be back shortly. Q: Did you spend the holiday with Rene?A: She had a tree in the hotel for the twins, and a little tree on Rene's hospital table. She bought him cashmere slippers, and things full of love. Q. Were Rene's three older children there also?A: Her step-sons, Patrick and Jean-Pierre, and her step-daughter, Anne Marie was there. She would spend from the end of the afternoon until sleeping, Jean-Pierre would be there over night, Patrick in the morning, Anne-Marie in the afternoon. It was like a constant relay. But, she also ahd the twins to take care of, and in the middle of everything, the twins got sick. They sleep with her, and she became afraid they would all get sick. For Christmas, she still had a tree, and made cookies and left crumbs by the fireplace to show that Santa had been there. Her niece walked in and said she couldn't believe that between the hospital and her husband fighting for his life, that she could also have a Christmas. She bought all of his kids ipads, and they had Rene's picture as a wallpaper image, for Christmas. But, then between Christmas and New Year she had to return to Vegas, and that was heartbreaking. Jean-Pierre stayed with his dad, and Pierre and Coco Lacoix stayed with Rene also. When Rene was finally able to return to their home in Vegas, she wrote on the window with shaving cream, "Welcome home dad, we love you." They are very happy to be together. Next two pages going up later tonight! 10 Quote
NicoNV Posted August 1, 2014 at 12:49 AM Posted August 1, 2014 at 12:49 AM (edited) Page 2 (page 50 of article): Top quote above photo: "Fewer houses, fewer people, fewer projects. I would like to simplify my life to enjoy more." Q: Do you tell yourself the worst is behind you?A: Yes, but another fight begins. Rene has issues eating. This weakens him. Right now, he has a tube in his abdomen (like a feeding tube). She seems to describe two, she says a "first" and then a second and refers to a smaller tube (as in one smaller than the other). He has a doctor in Texas, who treated him 15 years ago. Dr. Steckler. His philosophy is to treat the patient, not the cancer. Celine loves that philosophy. I will do the other questions on this page later tonight, sorry! I am sure reading about a feeding tube will upset some people. Sadly, anyone who has had a loved one who experienced cancer will likely know that needing a feeding tube isn't totally uncommon. Some treatments make swallowing difficult. It takes time, but that muscle does heal. In the meantime, people need to maintain nutrition. This is not to minimize it at all! I am so sorry he needs one at this time! But, I just didn't want people to think this was unheard of. I haven't gotten there yet, but later in the article, she does say he is out of danger (thankfully!) So, please keep that in mind. I will post the remainder late tonight! Edited August 1, 2014 at 12:50 AM by NicoNV 7 Quote

Rene has issues eating. This weakens him. Right now, he has a tube in his abdomen (like a feeding tube). She seems to describe two, she says a "first" and then a second and refers to a smaller tube (as in one smaller than the other). I read this part differently .. . I thought that the feeding tube was when Rene first arrived home in early January . . not now. Because in that part of the interview, Celine had been talking about how difficult it was to be in Vegas while Rene was still in the hospital in LA, and then when he came home to Vegas, "We were so happy to finally be reunited." And then Julie says, "And there [presumably when he arrived home in January], you tell (told?) yourself the worst was behind you?" And Celine says, "Yes, but another battle begins. Rene had trouble eating, was weak." And then she talks about how he temporarily had to have a feeding tube . .first one, then a second, smaller, more comfortable one. But most of the description is in the past tense, and I think she was talking about when he first came home last winter. Either way, what an ordeal for both of them. They are both so strong, and clearly have so much love for each other and their children that sees them through this. Even RC must have had to grow up pretty quickly this year, and it's so sweet how close he and Rene are, and how Celine says he is her security. Also sweet how involved and dedicated Rene's older children are. Such a beautiful family, and I wish them healing and all the best in the future. 4 Quote
NicoNV Posted August 1, 2014 at 01:43 AM Posted August 1, 2014 at 01:43 AM Page 50 continued (beginning with the second question on that page, as the first has been provided above): Q: Through everything, all of this, you had to continue your Vegas shows?A. "Being back on stage makes me feel good." Q: Because on stage you forget your problems....A: She knows it may sound crazy, but she think she has never had so much fun before, or been so free. She cited to the fact she has had no problems with her voice (keep in mind this interview was a bit ago, so of course she could not foresee her current show cancellations).Mego was telling her that she is radiant. Saying it cannot be, because he knows what she is living through, but it seems like she is shining and just radiant, and singing better than ever. Q. At this time, you are in the reconstruction (reconstruction in is the literal translation)A. "Absolutely! Rene is and is not in danger. And I know that happiness is here, close to me, close to us. This test has yet brought us together. We are more in love than ever." Q. "At what point do you start to think that Rene can no longer take care of your career in the same way?"A. "This is his close friend Pierre Lacroix, who speaks to him: "Rene, you have to take care of yourself You have to delegate..Me, I never want that. René is the best manager in the world." He is still president of the board of Feelings (their company). He managed her entire career, and co-produced Veronique's show. "He is a great visionary." He will now have more time to focus on the artistic development of her career. "Then he was able to go do the job alone. You can stay at home, my man? There is no problem! You'll prepare my tour and then I'll go. after all I have already made done a world tour alone in 1999." She offered cancel, but he said it would be too much stress, and he watched the shows live from his office computer while in Florida. (this last bit of course, referring to the 1999 concert tour). The end of page 50 (actually the last question continued to page 51. Off to work on page 51!) 6 Quote

Popular Post NicoNV Posted August 1, 2014 at 02:36 AM Popular Post Posted August 1, 2014 at 02:36 AM (edited) If I used quotes, it's because it is an actual quote as opposed to a summary. However, some of the quotes needed some clean up (often French translates personal pronouns to "it" instead of "he" or "she", for example). I tried to use third-person when it was a summary, but as I said before, I may have slipped back and forth a bit (so, this is far from professional quality), but I do not have time to go back and clean it up right now. I did try to stay as consistent as possible when using third-person to sum up an answer, as opposed to a quote or more literal translation when I would have used first person. Page 51: Q. "You have appointed a new manager to accompany you?"A. Yes. Also, he is Quebecois, but his parents are from Italy. He has a lot of experience in show business. "He is chic, a gentleman, and has show-business at the tips of his fingers." Q. "Have you been tempted to stop?" (Have you thought or been tempted to stop your career)?A. "No. That would be like stopping my life." But, perhaps, doing less work. (literally, it reads, "but perhaps a big machine, doing less work." Not sure if she means to keep delegating more, or to just do less work. Keep in mind, however, she said herself she would not stop working entirely). Q. Meaning, in your professional life?A. Even in my personal life. Rene and I do not want to possess several houses." They didn't have time to go to the house in Florida. There is also a house in Montreal, where they celebrated Romy's baptism. It says "I want to sell it to me" not sure how to interpret that part, sorry. She said something about having a cabin in Quebec by a lake to receive their family. She said she kept a beautiful home in Vegas, which is going to be their base. Q. You also said you wanted to do more shows in Paris.A. Last fall she said she had an amazing experience with her shows in Paris and Belgium. The audience was great, people reacted strongly. She said she has an artistic return (response to her work? fulfillment?) that fills her. She said she "is blessed." Also, "American audiences have adopted" her. She has "fully tasted" and realizes her success. She says, "this is all because of the work and intelligence of Rene." Q. Do you sing in French in Vegas?A. Yes. She said sings one song in French, she said at the moment it was Pour Que tu m'aimes encore (so, this may be a hint at things to come??) Q. You are also touring the rest of the world soon?A. She said next October she is going to be in Asia to present a series of concerts. Veronic will be there for the first part of the shows. (Not sure if she means opening act, or just opening act for the first part of the series). Q. A new show in Vegas?A. "We will keep the main elements: thirty musicians, the white curtain, etc.. " But, she said they will bring "a lot of changes," the show will constantly evolve. Q. Despite this events, it seems you enjoy life more. For the upcoming show (Julie's talk show), you went water skiing, you were wearing a swimsuit. You went out to greet Rene in the parking lot wearing that, with heels on!A. "I wanted his opinion. I wondered if he would say: "No, you can not do that." I was very wise my whole career" then says something like now that she has gotten older, she has begun to "undress" (meaning just wear less, I think. She started by saying something like "now that it is time to go home, she begins to undress"). Then she laughed. Q. "He never wanted you to be too sexy?"A. Me either. If we did, it would have been at 17 or 24, not 46. (it translates as "if we do" not in the past tense of if we did, FYI) Q. He was proud instead (referencing to the earlier comment that Celine thought Rene would object. Julie was here pointing out, the opposite happened. Rene was proud).A. Yes. He laughed in the car, and said he will always keep that image (always remember it). Q. After 19 years of marriage, to still be like that is fantasticA. "I like to surprise my husband, seduce." She then says they complete each other. He has energy for her career, she focuses on their daily home life (kids, decorating). Q. Is Rene also present with the kids?A. He attends many of RCs games, hockey and soccer. "Father and son playing baseball and golf." In the house they also play snooker, pool, and of course they both enjoy playing poker. Q. RC has changed recentlyA. "I'm proud of him. There was some friction and a period when I had to tighten the screws, but everything readily fell into place. RC is like my security. When I was pregnant with him, I hoped for a girl. We learned that it was a boy, Rene was so happy! I have asked him why it made him so happy, and he told me "I know he will take such good care of you later." Today, it makes sense!" Q. And the twins?A. Nelson is like his dad. Eddy is like RC (but I think she means like when RC was a baby, not now) and needs to be reassured. A literal translation of this would say that "Nelson did not realize. He read to his father," which makes no sense to me. I take that as he reads like his dad, you know, he takes after him. Q. How does RC handle what happened to Rene?A. He is very happy he is cancer free. He understands Rene needs physiotherapy and special exercises. And that Rene will get better as months go on. "The best is yet to come for him, for us." Q. Why did you agree to be Romy's godmother?A. "It's a privilege to have another child to love." It's a "major responsibility." "Even if you never want to need to do this job, let's be clear!" (I take this at just getting at the idea and role of the job being a major responsibility if something were to happen to Julie. So, Celine was just saying she doesn't any anything to happen of course). Romy has something in common with RC, Nelson, and Eddy: she was conceived with IVF. She talked about IVF and that medicine, and how often the treatment is used. She said the doctors do the work of God, in that they help bring life. She said they hold their child's hand, before the parent can hold them in their arms. Then there was just a sign off wishing each other good health!---------------------------------- That's it!! It was a great interview! I wish she had the chance to do interviews like that in English. She was so open about everything. It's clear there is so much love and support in their family (their entire family, of course, including Rene's older children). It seems like they have great friends around them as well. It sounds like the transition of him not being the main manager was not her idea at first, but it's clear she supports it for his sake and she continues to be so proud of him. They seem to work together so well! They have a lot going on, but it seems like they have support. I hope she can streamline things, and only do projects she truly wants to do, and has more time for her family and her life. So much of this interview was emotional to read. She is clearly very strong, and a true example of how to handle a difficult time in life and continue growing in your strength (and for that matter, Rene is also a great example)!! She truly kept these things in her heart.I am sure this was difficult on their children, and Rene's older kids as well, but to work as a team shows how strong, and positive, the relationships are in their family. Not to mention that seeing as all of his older children have kids themselves, so their ability and willingness to be such a support is amazing. I am glad RC was there for both Celine and Rene too, and I am sure the twins being there helped Celine as well. They seem like a real family trying to work through a difficult time together. I am glad they had each other for support! God bless them and their entire family! Edited August 1, 2014 at 02:45 AM by NicoNV 17 Quote
NicoNV Posted August 1, 2014 at 03:26 AM Posted August 1, 2014 at 03:26 AM (edited) Nico, thank you so much for taking the time to translate. You are a gem!! You're welcome, and thank you! Yes, I agree either way it was an ordeal. I think I still read it as present, because she said it's an issue they need to solve, which is present tense, and she said now the second fight begins (meaning his recovery). But, like you said, either way it was an ordeal, and they both exhibit love, and it is a beautiful family. It does appear we agree, regardless of timeline, that his recovery required a feeding tube of some sort (either currently or prior). This is a difficult part of recovery from cancer. The cancer is gone, but the body can be so weak, and now it needs to rebuild. Often there is difficulty with swallowing food. A friend of mine needed a feeding tube for more than a year, because the muscles in their throat made it too difficult to swallow. So, I wasn't shocked to hear about Rene's feeding tube, but nonetheless, I am very sorry about it. I will say, and of course this is just based on friends' experiences as I am not a doctor, with time those muscles do heal. The feeding tubes do come out, and people do rebuild strength. But, cancer recovery is more than just being cancer free. It's a fight in your body, and it can be tiring. I am so happy Rene has so many people around him and supporting him! chocolatechip15 Posted August 1, 2014 at 03:31 AM Posted August 1, 2014 at 03:31 AM A. Thanks for doing all this translating, Nico! On the two places you indicated not being sure what it meant, I read the first one as: "Maybe just not as big a machine to operate" -- Like she definitely wants to keep doing what she's doing, but on a smaller scale. On the second one, I think she was saying, "I want to sell it [the current Quebec house] in order to build my "cabin in Quebec," on the lake to host all the family," -- Like she wants to sell the current big estate so she can trade it for a smaller "cabin" on a lake. . again scaling down. 2 Quote
