"Loved Me Back To Life" Album | FAN Reviews

OK, I’m writing while listening to the album:

LOVED ME BACK TO LIFE – a catchy opening for this album, I love the song

SOMEBODY LOVES SOMEBODY – I like it, not the typical track you’d expect from Celine, for me it’s a nice surprise

INCREDIBLE– I love Celine & Ne-Yo together, their voices are almost a perfect match

WATER AND A FLAME – great one for sure, one of my favourites on the album, different from previous Celine stuff

BREAKAWAY – for some reason her voice here reminds me slightly of Miley Cyrus on ‘Wrecking Ball’, I admit I expected something more (maybe it would be better if her voice didn’t sound so soft on this one), it didn’t really get me

SAVE YOUR SOUL – nice lyrics but the melody is a little boring for me

DIDN’T KNOW LOVE – this might be the typical Celine ballad but I like it a lot

THANK YOU – it gave me a nice feeling from the very beginning, I love the lyrics, one of the best songs on the album

OVERJOYED – interesting intro, I have to say, and it feels like Celine really enjoys singing this song

THANKFUL – well, this one got me from the first second, it’s perfect in every possible way, really one of the best ballads Celine has ever recorded

AT SEVENTEEN – I like it, I can relate to the lyrics and the sound is so soft and relaxing (I was afraid the song could be somehow boring or old-fashioned but the production is actually good)

ALWAYS BE YOUR GIRL – another nice surprise for me, a moving and gentle song, I really like the sound of her voice on this one

UNFINISHED SONGS – I still think this song could fit ‘One Heart’ perfectly but I also feel it may grow on me

All in all, a very good album, I think it deserves 8 out of 10.

I was  when I saw the titles of these two songs a long time ago, but I'm grateful to have them now. A+

Same here.

Here's my review:

LOVED ME BACK TO LIFE- The intro of this songs says it all about the album. Maybe is the first time that the first track gives you the clues of what you are going to listen in a Celine album. From here, you can see the album will have a new modern look but without loosing the Diva touch. A really interesting song. The best from Celine in ages (for me, since The Reason and LTAL album) Powerful, fresh and modern. a song that definitely sentence the album. 10/10

INCREDIBLE. I'm not much in love with the first distorted piano and I think that overall this a little bit plain song... But the mixes of the two voices are great. Somehow this always makes me think about some kind of update of "I'm Your Angel"... At least I think it looks forward the same effect for younger audiences. It's a good song but I don't think is as BIg as they think it is. 6/10

SOMEBODY LOVES SOMEBODY. I must say that this song is still growing on me. As once say, it has a perfect intro and first verses but arriving to the chorus it looses the chance to be something more original in Celine. Is like they give two steps ahead but then they quickly comeback to the safe zone... not to risk too much. Watching the live performance in The Today Show, she won me a little bit more. It looks like she really likes this song... 7,5/10

WATER AND A FLAME. A really great great song. Serious lyrics and getting far from the "cheesy happy love world". She vocally acts and I'm so thankful because of that. She experiments new ways and that's great from someone always playing safe... Of course it has the Adele shadow, but I think it is a good shadow... I'd love if she starts to be closer to Adele style. A classy "soulish" modern ballad. 10/10

BREAKAWAY- I must say that I was expecting so much from this song. Listening to the original Ivy version always chills me and now I get suddenly a little bit disappointed. I miss the deep Ivy's dark voice. Also they included some new arrangements that understimate the original. I would have love if they just have take a more dark Celine with the piano and the base. But it is a great ballad anyway. 8/10

SAVE YOUR SOUL. God! Like SLS, another AMAZING INTRO AND FIRST VERSES. The church choir effect... Yeah! totally new in Celine! Really great, reminds me to Florence & The Machine baroque music. But then, the chorus arrives and they make another standard uptempo song, closer to Maroon 5, and for me is another chance missed... Just another safe standard. 6'5/10

DIDN'T KNOW LOVE. Great ballad, you can clearly notice the Adelish touch from Eg White. I was thinking that mr. White should be the next JJ Goldman for Celine... at last a D'eux album in english...9/10

THANK YOU. I'm still so confused about this song. I find it kind of boring and plain but in the other hand I find some kind of magic in it... They achieve the feeling of a stranger hug. Seriosly, you get strange at first but then you can feel it ad you feel really comfortable... Yeah..it is a very comfortable song. 8/10

OVERJOYED. Great. A good update and a very well produced song. But completely out from this album...8/10

THANKFUL. I'm the one soo thankful because of you, my dear Celine. To have the opportunity of listen, not listen, experience, this song is just amazing. I'm the one thankful to be here... THIS IS SIMPLY AMAZING... 10/10

AT SEVENTEEN. What can I say about a classic adapted to Celine's voice. It's a pitty this song it wasn't "stolen" before, in her early career to become a Celine Anthem instead of Janis. 9/10

ALWAYS BE YOUR GIRL. Another great ballad. What I think this ballads makes difference is that this one really have a meant lyrics, they are not the tipical easy "I'm gonna love you forever and ever tonight my love". You really have the sense of someone telling you something really felt. 9'5/10

UNFINISHED SONG. This song is so unfinished, so it should have been OUT of the album... Even with the new arrangements sounds as awful as it was in the beginning... nothing can resurrect this song... it is a walking dead in an album full of masterpieces... Diane Warren, you did great things for Celine and great songs... but this one.... sometimes is better to leave before you fall with a big s**t... 3/10

TOTAL: 8'5/10

A really great comeback in english full of songs with really interesting verses but poor choruses... THE BEST: The ballads WORST: The uptempo songs stays in a no man's land... like "unfinished" songs. They try to give the step ahead but not fully...

can we add a poll for favorite song or favorite choice for second single? I'll post my review in some minutes!

Great idea! I think someone may start one once the album is out everywhere, or mostly everywhere.

OVERJOYED has no business being part of LMBTL. not only is stevie wonder whining his way through the song, but celine offers a performance that is hardly inspired. this song left me zzzzzzz in vegas... and with the addition of SW it's even less remarkable. i'd have rather had "open arms" than this pittle...

I LOVE YOU!! :flowers:

She tries so hard in Vegas to get the crowd into it...... but nada!

The best part of Overjoyed in Vegas was when I saw it live... the song had technical difficulties, the hologram froze and the song stopped. Oh and Celine was stuck on the stage lift. Best performance ever of Overjoyed. lol

I saw that coming  That's the consequence of their obsessive infatuation to always combine new original songs with old covers  But THESE Vegas covers!... I've been carefully reading the reviews about the songs here and it seems there's a general agreement to say that the 2 bonus tracks are also out of place in the album. They are certainly well in that place of "bonus tracks" :whistling:

I really love the album, I just can't get into the Stevie track AT ALL. At Seventeen, is only OK. What saves it are the relatable lyrics....ok I've never been a 17 year old girl, but you get the point.

SLS, one of my favorites from the album. Love her vocals, lyrics and the power of it. Although I really like LMBTL, this knocks it out of the park.

Breakaway reminds me of LIAWN from the OH album, smiler theme etc. I like!

TBH I like most of the songs, it does go mellower towards the end, but Unfinished Songs saves it from going down the traditional Celune route.

So far... from what I heard on Sunday, it was a cohesive album with the songs containing her AMAZING vocals but .....that's what I heard on SUNDAY!! I am not downloading any low quality on my comp. I can wait. No I can't! Wait! Yea. 5 more days to go for the States....Yippie! In my hands... :)

I will give my review later when I buy the album. :wtf: :lolwave:

Overal impression.. I think it's her most coherent album since Celine Dion... I really didn'tknow what to expect with this album... but it it's more than I have ever dreamt it would be... Her voice is perfect, the music is amazing and the lyrics are profound!

LMBTL

What can I say? Strong album opener and imo still the best first single! Céline 2013!

SLS

WOW just WOW! Exactly what u want from an uptempo song from Céline! This should be a single and added to the setlist. PERIOD!

I

HMMMMM after the hype I think I expected to much, but it's not as strong as I thought it would be. Still a very decent song!

WAAF

Better than I imagined it would be... still a song that could be made a bit more her own

B

Damn Céline! You still proof ballads are your signature! Amazing vocals!

SYS

Awesome! I love it! Great rythm!! Can't wait to hear the rap version!

DKL

I liked it way more than from the previews! I love the piano!

TY

Amazing lyrics! Dana may write more songs for Céline!

O

Much better than the concert version. .. more rythm and r n b... still... an original song would have been nicer

T

Love the choir!! Not a song that stands out so much... but still a very good song

AS

I like the arrangement.... still i would have liked her to record it with André...

ABYG

I understand what Céline meant by this is a song for RC. i love the lyrics and music

US

Much better than the soundtrack. I like the added drums and backing vocals! Still for the standard edition not the strongest closing track.

HDYKTP

I loved it in the show I still love it now!; would have liked a more duet version... but still strong vocals!

L

Beautiful orchestral music! I think it would have been better to switch these last to songs on the album... still a beautiful song.

Overal... 9/10 her strongest English work since ANDHC! One point deduction for the vegas songs.... I hope she'll give a lot of love to these songs, because they deserve it!!

and that, cool cats, is my only criticism... THANKFUL continues to be an early fave... and overall this disc paves over the uneven TAKING CHANCES in a single listen. CELINE IS BACK, indeed!

i feel 100% confident that LMBTL is going to launch at no. 1 on the billboard 200... sony has promoted her extremely well, with teaser videos and TV appearances. and it doesn't hurt a bit that the mainstream press has been IN LOVE WITH CELINE since the launch of the current vegas show.

this is our moment, guys! fun to be part of the forum amid so much GOOD NEWS!!!!

Come on dear Chuck, I want to read a song by song review from yours, so much joy reading your views and opinions!

Interesting to see all the love for Always Be Your Girl -- I love it, too, in that her voice sounds unbelievably beautiful in a way we haven't heard much before (i think she is experimenting a bit with some of her lower tones -- when she sings the line "The day that I had you" - it just slays me . . and then the high notes in the chorus -- such an emotional combination). I also love the bittersweet lyrics, Celine's interpretation, and the sweet sincerity with which she sings it. Love the Walter Afanasieff production, too.

But one thing I don't like -- the "You're like a button on my sleeve" metaphor. Besides the fact that it's just not that poetic -- I have buttons fall off sleeves all the time. This is supposed to be a metaphor for permanent, forever, constant love . .and they choose a button on a sleeve? I mean, gosh, I hope they sewed it on with industrial-strength thread! The beauty of this song makes me want to cry -- and then the "button on the sleeve" takes me right out of the moment, and makes me want to laugh. :giggle:

Hi,

I'm new here, just got finished from listening to the album:

LMBTL: nice way to begin the album, though her live performance in QC is much better

SLS: I love this track, it is very energetic and is a very simple and to the point song

I: nice song after SLS to cool down a bit

WAAF: very good song loved it!

BA: a song that is very much made to be a studio track, I cannot see her top that track in live performance

SYS: mellow song not bad not great

DL: another good song by Eg White (same producer as WAAF) very stripped down and nice

TY: Celine made me blush; I paid for your album, you are welcome!

OJ: Stevie outsang Celine! Yes, you can see legendary in both but DAMN Stevie Wonder can sing! I love the intro and the song as a whole

TF: Dana parish did great on this song; thought it would be another TY but there's a real great turn-around towards the end ala "Call the man"

AS: another cool down song that is very nice

ABYG: Dana parish strikes again but this time with CHEESE; yep, the ending is very cheesy; Dana and Andrew are very formulaic, they want to end each song on a stride of orchestra and choir and high notes but this time it sounds very forced.

US: Not bad but not great would have chosen another song to end the album.

Help! Where can i listen to Lullabye??? Davey? ( i borrowed parts of your review btw :P )

Loved me back to life

Maybe my favorite song on the album (along with Didn't know love and the other titles in bold).

So original! Her Jimmy Fallon performance of the song is everything i could hope for!

"What can I say? Strong album opener and imo still the best first single! Céline 2013!" (from Davey's review)

Somebody loves somebody

At first i thought this song sounded too "young" for Celine(the chorus is bubblegum afterall) but then...

"WOW just WOW! Exactly what u want from an uptempo song from Céline! This should be a single and added to the setlist. PERIOD!" (from Davey's review)

Incredible

Good single choice imo (if this can't get airplay, nothing can)

"Hmm after the hype I think I expected to much, but it's not as strong as I thought it would be. Still a very decent song!" (from Davey's review)

Water and a flame

I couldn't stop whining when i heard she would cover this song (some years? ago). Hearing her version, studio and live, can't help but love it. As with Didnt know love, i think this is the kind of thing Celine should be doing.

Breakaway

Didn't think THAT much of it when i heard the demo, but boy, Celine blew me away! Great song, great delivery!

Save your soul

Love the different sound, nice break between 2 great ballads, great way to pick up the tempo a bit. I love the verses but the chorus is kinda weak

Didn't know love

THIS IS IT. This is an appropriate sound for Celine, and can't stop listening to it too. Great job, hoping for more like this in the future.

Thank you

Cute song. Leading into Thankful those 2 songs could be the end of the album

Overjoyed

If it was missing Thank you would very nicely lead to Thankful

"Great. A good update and a very well produced song. But completely out from this album... 8/10" (from Donpi86's review)

Thankful

I didn't care much for it on the first listen but now i can say "Love the choir!! Not a song that stands out so much... but still a very good song" (from Davey's review)

At seventeen

I looove the song and loved her 2008 performance but i think this is the only song where the production fails, sounds nice but it takes away from the song's meaning.

Always be your girl

I love this song. Say what your want about Celine and lullabyes, i think all the "baby songs" she's done are GREAT. Had i liked her "Miracle" voice i could have LOVED that 2004 album

Unfinished Songs

I prefer the soundtrack version. This version is more modern but feels slower to me. In general i like the song but musically feels hack? ordinary. Probably serves as a good album closer but Always be your girl could probably do that (or Lullabye if 2 "lullabyes" in a row isn't too much :P )

HDYKTP

nice song, i don't care much for it but it fits with the album i think

Lullabye

Still haven't heard it! I LOOOOOVE the original by Billy Joel, hoping for a good cover!

Overall:

For some unknown reason i expected this album to be as cohesive as it is, the only song that breaks the flow is Overjoyed.

I think this is her BEST (english?) album since her 1996-1999 era. Good songs, GREAT production, GREAT Vocals and delivery. Its also been a thrill watching her perform this week, she's in top shape and for me definately the best era to be a celine fan.
