Bóól'át'í Posted September 10, 2013 at 05:25 PM Posted September 10, 2013 at 05:25 PM (edited) I thought that the fact that she's been away for so long was in fact a positive one towards the success of this song! Now it turns out it's the other way round? It's a very important factor. 6 years away from the music scene can kill a career and its very hard to come back to where you were at. Nowadays every artist releases an album every year (or it feels that way). Edited September 10, 2013 at 05:29 PM by Bóól'át'í 2 Quote
max24 Posted September 10, 2013 at 05:42 PM Posted September 10, 2013 at 05:42 PM Let's view "Loved Me Back to Life" on YouTube. Views for a song on YouTube are added to the Billboard Hot 100 formula. We're at 339,070. Let's make it 400,000! Javito Posted September 10, 2013 at 06:03 PM Posted September 10, 2013 at 06:03 PM (edited) I thought that the fact that she's been away for so long was in fact a positive one towards the success of this song! Now it turns out it's the other way round? It is indeed for us, the die-hard fans who are eager to have a new album of her, but for the casual public, that's more than enough time to forget an artist, unfortunately. And with Céline's case she has a two opposite sides that play both in favour and against her: it's true she has built a big name in the industry and not in vain she is the biggest selling female artist of all time in terms of album sales, but at the same time, she has a career of 30 years at her back and she's done a lot of things, many of them too many times in my opinion (like exploiting the ballad kind of song to death, singing BYLM for a thousand times in her concerts instead of finding a balance including more of her own songs and the newer ones she recorded in her albums...). So yes, we can't wait for a new album, we've missed her, but for the rest of the public, the casual public and not so hard-die fans, she's going to need more than a bunch of her typical songs to get this public's attention back. The truth is that to the eyes of the general public, she's gone for many years. I don't want to be boring, all this forum knows by now what I think about that LOL: that either her record label, René or she herself have neglected her international career in the business during all this 6 YEAR time frame. All these years that I've been saying ("complaining" in the eyes of others ) that she needed to have a new music release in 2010, 2011 or 2012 for the english market, call it a CD with rarities or a new single to ease the waiting until the full album was completed, was exactly to avoid this "slow" warm up with the new single, or to prevent a "cold" reception with the new single. Sony Music could have released a new english single in 2011 or 2012, so the general public wouldn't have thought that she had retired, or that nobody knew a word about Céline except for the people in Las Vegas and us in this forum. Or a "The Collector's Series Vol. 2" with a couple of new songs and promote it in her Vegas show, iTunes etc. But they did nothing. They could even have picked more singles out from the Taking Chances album in 2009, instead of abruptly ending the promotion with "My Love" (which btw was another mistake) during the world tour; they did nothing. They decided to go all the way from 2009 to 2013 without any new english music until they finally found the time to release Loved Me Back To Life. In late 2013, at the doors of 2014. That's quite some time, but not for Céline, for everyone in this business! Just put it out this way, when she took a break in 2000 until 2002: that was a joke of a break, a "see you later" compared to the long years of absence she took from 2009 to 2013! Yes, she started a show in Vegas in march 2011, but nobody noticed this time (it wasn't at all compared with the big fanfare they did with "A New Day" in 2003). And starting a show in Vegas wasn't an obstacle to send a new single to radios at the same time, to say to the WORLD outside Vegas "hey, I'm back for you too, not only for the tourists in Vegas" Another thing that pushed back the release of this album even more: the insane Vegas concept they had stuck in their heads for this album. For 2 long years (TWO years!) they've been going in circles wondering whether releasing an album with half Vegas-half new songs or not. They were so stuck with that, and even if the fastest, smartest and most logical solution for those songs was to release a LIVE album of her Vegas show and get rid of that idea of the covers, they didn't. They still decided those covers were needed in her next english studio album That's another thing that has retarded big time the release of this album. This said, I think there's a very positive side of the story coming through, after all the setbacks THIS album has seen, and that's the change of direction they took with the first single, releasing an original, totally unexpected collaboration with the songwriter of the moment for many singers, and I believe there is more to come in the album, more fresh material like LMBTL, that maybe wasn't for the emphatic rejection to the Vegas covers both by Sony executives and fans, maybe we wouldn't see today (i mean, in november! ). Even RC is helping telling Céline that she needs to be fresh with her music! We have to be a little more patient, and wait to see what they have in store for second and third singles (hopefully more). If they release more of the new, original and modern tracks that the album is including, the battle against covers and what they did with Taking Chances will have been won already Edited September 10, 2013 at 06:14 PM by Javito 7 Quote "Hush, now... celinefan1985 Posted September 10, 2013 at 06:31 PM Posted September 10, 2013 at 06:31 PM The promotion has not even started. Why do radio stations ''have'' to play a song when this song has not even been promoted by the singer and her label yet? Surely it was sent to radios, but where are the live perfomances? Where is the lyric video? The official video? Don't you think we should wait for their release/impact and then judge the single's perfomance? In UK the single charted outside the Top 100, do you really think this will be its peak position? I doubt since there is a perfomance in X-Factor coming. You think we are talking bullishit, but all bullshit comes from you, since you put Celine in the same sentence with Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, whining about the fact that Celine is not played on radios as much as they do. You obviously neglect the fact that these single-artists are during their commercial peak at the moment. What Celine was doing from 1993-1999 with her album sales, it is what these ladies do now with her single releases. Celine has been there, she has done it, she moved on. Do the same, move on and don't feel disappointed about her commercial success, especially when this ''disappointment'' is pretty much baseless. I would be a little more respectful next time if I were you. I have been a die-hard fan since 1986. I have my own opinions just as you have yours. 2 Quote
rhapsodion Posted September 10, 2013 at 06:41 PM Posted September 10, 2013 at 06:41 PM Now seeing the recording session footage of LMBTL on Access Hollywood, i wonder why didn't they use these footage for the teaser video that they put up before the single was released on itunes? Why did they use the Water And The Flame footage instead? 1 Quote
GoldenLeaf Posted September 10, 2013 at 06:48 PM Posted September 10, 2013 at 06:48 PM (edited) And you all forget the most important factor: Céline's been away from the music industry for 6 long years, retired to the eyes of MANY people. I repeat it again, SIX long years. That's more than enough time to forget an artist today and lose their track. So it's not like releasing a single now and pull it off at the first attempt. She's going to work hard if she wants to make the public believe that she has a new album And you forget an even more important factor : radio's bias against artists over age 40 Nowadays, if you're a singer and you're over 40 you have to make a duet with a younger singer in order to get support from the radio stations and to a certain degree from the general public. If LMBTL would have been a duet with Nicki Minaj or Rihanna, the song would easily crack the Top10 or at least the Top20. Edited September 10, 2013 at 06:57 PM by GoldenLeaf 2 Quote

GoldenLeaf Posted September 10, 2013 at 07:11 PM Posted September 10, 2013 at 07:11 PM I don't understand...only 2 radio stations are playing the song in Montreal (Rythme and Rouge FM)...all the other major radio stations like NRJ, CKOI, VIrgin and The Beat are ignoring her...I don't understand what happened in between Taking chances era and now!! It's not that hard to understand. Back in 2007 she was 39 years old and now she's 45. Like I explained above, she's now severely affected by radio's bias against artists over age 40 when she was less affected in 2007. Quote

The only mildly objectionable word he said was "bullshit" and that was in response to YOUR original post where you claimed others were spouting "BS". Should he have abbreviated it for you instead? PS based on your original post you really have no clue about charts. And Beyonce has been flopping one single after the other recently. Edited September 10, 2013 at 07:18 PM by Your_Su_Phu 1 Quote

No matter if their music is good enough for radios or not, of quality or it is crap, radios will automatically play their single, something that doesn't happen with Celine, she has not that ability to enter in radios like these fellows And Cher, I dunno, she's been without a new album for 12 years but they're playing her single as if she has been really missed (at least in my country).
