Davey84 Posted May 6, 2013 at 10:38 AM Posted May 6, 2013 at 10:38 AM (edited) I cannot believe there isn't a topic already for this years Eurovision Song Contest!! http://www.eurovision.tv/page/timeline This is the Dutch entry this year; Anouk, one of the best Dutch singers from the last 15 years (check out: Nobody's Wife, Good God, Modern World, Lost, Save Me to name a few) THE NETHERLANDS - ANOUK - BIRDShttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evv2SXOOWWk What do you think? At first I didn't like the song, I wanted her to go to the Eurovision with a big ROCK song, but after hearing it more, it really grew on me! I only hope it can grab the publics attention straight away! The was a little commotion in the media, she was found dead drunk at a party, 'singing' Birds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnVvmNRpQNM Turns out it was part of an Insurance Company Compain, that Always use big OOPS moments for commercials:(Even Apeldoorn Bellen...)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSEdyu11EI8 POST YOUR COUNTRIES ENTRIES!!! LuisMa Posted May 6, 2013 at 10:45 AM Posted May 6, 2013 at 10:45 AM I really like that Anouk song! Some of my favorites this year are Sweden's Robin Stjernberg and Cascada from Germany. Quote
fred Posted May 6, 2013 at 02:24 PM Posted May 6, 2013 at 02:24 PM (edited) I can't believe I forgot to create this topic! Thank you, Davey! This year the contest will be held at Malmö Arena in Malmö in the southern parts of Sweden (whoohoo Sweden!). The arena is slightly small compared to what we've been used to these past years. The contest have grown to extreme proportions and I've heard there have been plans for it to be scaled down for some time now. Which I am fine by, I miss the intamacy of the old concert halls and auditoriums it used to be in. My only wish is for they to bring back the live orchestra! This is our contestant:Robin Sternberg - You. The performance is when he won the Swedish finals (at the ironically bigger Friends Arena) and is very emotional, especially considering he wrote this song for his family and is about his gratitude for them always supporting his musical ambitions (impatient forumers can skip to 3:28). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6C4CjQWWh1U His technique on the high notes in the refrain and bridge are somewhat haunting. /fred Edited May 6, 2013 at 02:33 PM by fred 1 Quote Peace and love to all.
LuisMa Posted May 6, 2013 at 06:53 PM Posted May 6, 2013 at 06:53 PM Fred, I hope that song reaches the Top 5, as it's really beautiful! This is the Spanish entry: El Sueño de Morfeo with "Contigo Hasta El Final" (With You Until The End) Quote
LuisMa Posted May 6, 2013 at 11:18 PM Posted May 6, 2013 at 11:18 PM By the way, we should have an Eurovision Watching Party that night. Quote
J-Man Posted May 7, 2013 at 08:02 AM Posted May 7, 2013 at 08:02 AM (edited) The spanish entry is good. and shes a very pretty girl.Love Anouk. She should give a great performance and I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the staging. Not sure about the songs chances of winning though for this modern day Eurovision, but its important for a wide spectrum of musical styles to be represented on the night. Too often these days a lot of the songs can sound very similar, as so many chase the dance anthem vote (which rightly or wrongly has become a big factor in getting a top 5 Eurovision placing lately) Speaking of which, this is Ireland's entry. From a guy called Ryan Dolan. Does it make you feel "Euphoric"? Edited May 7, 2013 at 08:08 AM by J-Man Quote http://www.powerofthemusic.com/other/FORUMSIG1.png
LuisMa Posted May 7, 2013 at 08:07 AM Posted May 7, 2013 at 08:07 AM (edited) Thank you for the video! While the song is good, it does have lots of similarities to "Euphoria" Edited May 7, 2013 at 08:29 AM by LuisMa 1 Quote

Davey84 Posted May 7, 2013 at 09:46 AM Author Posted May 7, 2013 at 09:46 AM From the three songs you posted I liked Ireland the most It is a bit like Euphobia, but I can see this being a summer hit, even without the Eurovision. And thank god it's not Jeward AGAIN! LOL Are they lying drunk, high and without money in the gutters yet? Sweden is an OK song, IMO. I guess his vocals were a bit strained, because he just won, and cos of all the excitement, I think it will end high, but it's not a winner. Spain, the intro sounded like an Irish song to me! It's a sweet song, but it doesn't really stand out. We're going to a good friend of ours for the Eurovision... well.. her parents house actually, where her christian mother will do her embroidery it sounds boring... but it's Always fun... as long as there is enough 1 Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/daveyh84/incognito198701_zpsaaootxh1.jpgRick, ik hou van jou voor altijd!A New Day... has come 28/29 April & 2/3 May 07Antwerpen 13 et 14 mai,Paris 24 et 25 mai, Amsterdam 2 juinet Arras 7 juillet Chances Taken!!!How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th
LuisMa Posted May 7, 2013 at 09:48 AM Posted May 7, 2013 at 09:48 AM I also thought it sounded Irish! I don't really love it, but it's one of the best songs that Spain has sent in years! Some of the songs in the past ten years have been really Quote
Davey84 Posted May 7, 2013 at 10:01 AM Author Posted May 7, 2013 at 10:01 AM yeah that Mika wanna be circus recently was a total disaster! In a way, it's in their disadvantage that countries like Spain, UK and France go straight to the finals, because their songs get less exposure. I saw four countries are not entering this year, under which Turkey, which I thought was weird, cos they usually get enough points. Jeff Abbott Posted May 7, 2013 at 02:02 PM Posted May 7, 2013 at 02:02 PM (edited) Since Poland is out this year (again ) I cannot post the entry from my home country. Still, I'll keep my fingers crossed for Marco Mengoni from Italy and his song "L'essenziale". It is definitely a strong contender for the victory, top 5 placing would be great. I absolutely love his voice just as the song's melody and lyrics. Seriously, I'm very impressed with this song. fred Posted May 7, 2013 at 04:51 PM Posted May 7, 2013 at 04:51 PM (edited) Of all the clips posted I say Ireland has most hit potential. It's not too bad, and I've heard there's a more Euporiah like song in the contest this year.I like the sound of the Polish one but the melody doesen't reach me, the same for Spain, although it was neat. The Netherlands was okay, and that drunk clip makes me feel normal. The effort that we in Sweden go through to choose our entry is extreme, as many as 5 part contests are held and one last final, so 6 weeks in total. This is my favourite this year, it fell flat though. But I find it extremely beautiful.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBYf6p671yU /fred Edited May 7, 2013 at 04:52 PM by fred 1 Quote Peace and love to all.

That song is suberb. Quite old school, with the strings and all. Uhm, not sure if that's sacrasm from you or not. The Swedish language doesn't really get attention for being pretty. Last year Finland sang in Swedish! That was fun. First time it occured in the ESC since 1998 I think. You, I guess we'll go onIf not for our own sakeSo for the kids and their tranquillityAnd you... do you see?Perhaps it feels like s*** for youBut think about how it feels for me *the Swedish phrase is "vi kör väl" which is hard to translate. Here's the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBQmDLZFF2oCaroline af Ugglas was very successful a couple of years ago in the contest, and the song became a huge hit here. And I believe the reason why her entry this year didn't score higher is coz it's way too similar to that one. It feels like she didn't try too hard this year, seemlingly trying to ride on the wave and the same theme (being cheated woman) of that song a couple of years ago. Here it is.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArGvOv7hP7Q BTW the host that year (heard at the end of the clip) is the one who's hosting the ESC this year. I wonder how Europe will react on her. She's a comedian. So she can be funny, unlike the other hosts who usually only TRIES to be funny. But she has a very special humor. So we'll see. /fred Quote Peace and love to all.
Jeff Abbott Posted May 8, 2013 at 09:16 PM Posted May 8, 2013 at 09:16 PM Right, to tell the truth I've just 'discovered' Petra Mede, but she appears to have great confidence while hosting such events. She's naturally funny and charming. I'm sure she'll make all the Swedes proud with her performance as a ESC host. I guess the bar was raised really high, but she'll live up our expectations. Good luck for her. Here's a short clip featuring Petra at some kind of a gala, I must say she's hilarious (even though I can't understand a single word from it). Quote

That clip was from a Swedish movie award show. I translated the part until the singing for you: Yes… Here I have someone who I think I know who he will vote for. Hi Fares Fares, hi. You are here with your 400 relatives. Oh, half the Swedish film industri is named Fares. But it’s only you who is named that twice. Aah, congrats congrats. Oh! Skarsgård Skarsgård! But look here! Joel Kinnaman. Sweden’s greatest export success since the monkey wrench, uh? Well, if one has to screw the nuts in a wiggling table then one do needs a monkey wrench. Or one has you. And then one doesn’t care that the table wiggle. Bill! Wonderful, beautiful, talented Bill. You have had it all. Except a real name. Well you’re going to Hollywood now, and you know that in English “Bill” means “bill” – bill Skarskård. Yes. No, you’ll gonna get so much work in the end of each month. Cecilia Frode! Oh, how great! That you’re not on stage but is sitting in the audience, that is. Oh. We had a little quarrel once upon a time, you and I – but it’s surely forgotten? On the other hand, ever since then I do think you have given me glares. But now I see: that’s how you look! Haha! No, that wasn’t ok. Eh. Or? Oh! No! Now Cecilia Frode died. Oh help, oh God. Eh, what happened now? No – you’re doing an illustration of Rigor mortis. That was interesting. Here every actor can see how that is. Hehe, no! – You got a heart attack when you understood that you were Cecilia Frode. Hehe. How did that feel? “Oh it’s me who is Cecilia Frode- oh I am constipated. Oh what shall I do now. What shall I do now?” Hehe. /fred 1 Quote Peace and love to all.
