The Best Of Celine Dion & David Foster

And there is nothing I can find about David Foster having anything to do with "I surrender", other that perhaps taking the song from someone else and getting Céline to sing it ad-lib to ad-lib. Has anyone checked the covers topic? You'll see what I mean. The woman's album that it comes from was released months before hand, and unless she has some inside video scoop from Céline recording in the studio, which I'm assuming she doesn't, then her "team" are just as much thieves than anyone else. And all this nonsense about it being written for Edyta Gorniak first. She released her own version, so how did Sony get their paws on it?

What are you talking about it?

Nobody - I repeat NOBODY in Céline's team - pretended it was not a cover? You're completely wrong when you say that Kathy Griffin was not aware of this cover and that Céline's team stole it as Kathy Griffin did backing vocals for Céline's version! She didn't get any "inside video scoop from Céline recording in the studio" as, in some way ( I guess they didn't record it together), she WAS in the studio.

But, at the end , who cares if she wasn't aware of this? She is NOT the writer of the song, nobody needs her permission to cover the song. And she actually can thank Céline to bring this gem into the light, otherwise nobody would have known it.

David Foster produced "I surrender" , that's maybe the link you're looking for ? And why do you focus especially on this song? If we follow your way of thinking, we can add "the power of love", "all the way"...actually 3/4 of David Foster's song as they are covers.

Your post is not harsh , it's just silly. You're slating this album while it's just a conceptual compilation for a specific market. And according to me, it's more interesting than any other compilation because songs have different arrangements from their original version. It's refreshing. "I surrender" , for example, it's 8sec longer and we can hear new vocals from Céline during these 8 sec.

I like the reviews of it saying that it's been re-mastered and mixed differently, that makes me want to buy it. But is just shows that with someone saying there was a "Thank you, goodnight" at the end that that particular song was taken from a live performance.

Well, actually, it's a little more complicated than that.

The first time this song was released was on an Elvis' live album (a TV special), that's why we can hear him saying "thank you, goodnight". Anyway, it was not totally a live performance as it was playback.

After that, that song appeared on various Elvis compilation without these speaking words although it was the same version.

I suppose you may be right. but it's the same with other songs, they don't get thier fair share of airplay when the original artists sing them. There are countless examples.

And Kathy Griffin? You wish, slip of the tongue there, check your name.

But, at the end , who cares if she wasn't aware of this? She is NOT the writer of the song, nobody needs her permission to cover the song. And she actually can thank Céline to bring this gem into the light, otherwise nobody would have known it.

Who cares? Well someone that doesn't like covers all the time and perhaps wants to hear the original artist. I've seen the post with all of them on there, and there are too many.

There were months between the releases of the different artist albums, who's gonna win out, obviously Céline.

David Foster produced "I surrender" , that's maybe the link you're looking for ? And why do you focus especially on this song? If we follow your way of thinking, we can add "the power of love", "all the way"...actually 3/4 of David Foster's song as they are covers.

Show me on the CD on ANDHC where s says the David Foster did anything with that song or any others because I can't find it. The only producer is named on the back "Vito Luprano".

Your post is not harsh , it's just silly. You're slating this album while it's just a conceptual compilation for a specific market. Conceptual? The theme of David Foster. Yeah nice, just trying to get mre money out of willing, stupid die hard fans that have most of the songs already. It's silly, not this post. If you don't understand what I mean don't slate it as being silly, think outside the box. And just like other people stop backing up Sony and the heavenly "Team Céline" there are usually wrong.

I'm also fed up with people opinions on here being neglected for other people that think they are smarter or more "in the know" because they spend every waking moment f every day pouring thier heart in soul into every aspect of her career. is that what you want to define you, her? Another human being? Life your own life, geez!

The first time this song was released was on an Elvis' live album (a TV special), that's why we can hear him saying "thank you, goodnight". Anyway, it was not totally a live performance as it was playback.

Thank you for that glorious insight, I was going by what someone else had said. To me they didn't make that clear.

I am actually quite sick of this forum now. All you peope need to take a step away from Céline. She's past her prime, she lips all the freaking time, even in live concerts as we could see from the taking chances DVD.

The sae people write her songs, it gets borig after a while. The old stuff is good, but nothing decent is gonna come out from her again. She's a very niche market. Give someone else a turn.

All you serious die har "Céline is the greatest and can't do no wrong" fans need to grow the hell up and realise that you have a life to live. Listen to her and watch her but as I said don't be defined by her. Not everything she does is amazing. It's like the top spot for NO.1 fan of the millennium in here.

Ad as for me I've been told not to talk about lip syncing, even though we know it goes on, and yet people talk about it all the time. I'm fed up of the contradictions, I'm fed up of all the hierarchy, and all the blind following!

I'm probably gonna get show down in flames again for this, by someone that thinks they can or that they know better. Well before you do, after this I'm leaving.

anyone notice on the prayer celine's voice overpowers andrea's?? which is usually the case, all u need to do is listen to the version they performed at his new york concert that was released on bootleg (not the dvd one where they turned her volume down a bit)

I'm very happy about this collection, especially because of two facts:

-A Celine compilation without MHWGO!

-The fact that some tracks have been remastered.

Does anyone agree that "Then You Look At Me " instead of "If I Could" would have been just perfect?

  YAY! I Finally got it this week!!! It was weirdly packed tho! Stuffed in a gray plastic bag, with loads of tape... Not something you would expect from a real retail company....

Anyway it looks a bit cheap... but still it's a nice complition of songs. Though I am very sad they didn't put up a lot of pictures of Céline and David in the recording studio throughout the years... They must have loads! But then again, this wasn't made by a fan of course :glare:

Ok so in order:

TPOL (Tim)

The guitar during the bridge section of "The Power of Love" is stronger. The whole section that breaks up the final chorus (the part that is never sung live) has a completely changed arrangement.

ABM (Tim)

Also, "All By Myself" is noticeably difference especially during the first chorus. They also removed the piano during the final chorus (like she sings it live and also the way it was on the US version of "My Love." Just listened again to "All By Myself" vs. the original. The drums have been completely removed from the first chorus. The drums do not come in until the 2nd verse and are pretty quiet until the 1st chorus. Comparatively to the original version, they are much quieter throughout.

I think they used the Single Edit Version #1 and changed the music. I think this one is longer than on ML?

TCOML

I saw it had 2 more seconds, but it's just more fade out.

WAWW

Is it me, or is the a capella intro a bit more polished? Her voice sounds a bit more softer and with more echo.

BYLM (Tim)

Background vocals are also stronger in "Because You Loved Me."

TLYM (Tim)

slight differences in "To Love You More." (Anyone knows which?)

ATW (Tim)

Subtle changes in "All The Way." Just sounds like it was cleaned up a bit and turning up the volume on the strings.

IS (Tim &k monline)

there are some slight differences in "I Surrender"

Increased lead and background vocals and lead vocals right at the end I haven't heard before

Yes I noticed that too, on ANDHC IS stops around 4:46, on this cd it goes on a few seconds longer.

It says on the TBOCD&DF booklet that is was produced by David Foster & Simon Fraglen, in the ANDHC booklet it says erm nothing, but it's said that it's only Simon Fraglen.

I think David isn't mentioned on ANDHC because he was with Warner at the time and if I recall correctly, Warner didn't allow David to work with a Sony artist.

So maybe he did help to produce the song, but was omitted in the ANDHC booklet.

TPOD (Tim)

Orchestra is fuller in "The Power of the Dream."

(YMMFL)ANW (Gabriel & Tim)

Not sure, but I noticed some new piano and background vocals on "A Natural Woman"!!!!

Yes! I heard it too! Right during the chorus.

And the "thank you goodnight" at the end.... what's it there for?

/fred

After FINALLY hearing IICD, I have to agree! It kinda ruins the song! I'll cut that off for my mp3 I'll play on my computer :giggle:

Still I don't see what WWAW is doing on this cd! I guess it was picked cos it's a classic song, but it's still a bad redention.... any songs from Unison would have been much better!

*I'm Loving Every Moment With You

*Unison

*Love By Another Name

*If We Could Start Over

*Have a Heart

Especially Have A Heart, cos that was her first real English song, made to the music of Partout Je Te Vois, and I think the first time they worked together.... Oh well Unison has been forgotten totally! :dots: :(

Well I guess the whole "I surrender" info comes from a Billboard article (or only available source) written by our very own Chuck Taylor, so he's the one that could clear that up :msn-wink:

Here's the link for the full magazine

Thanks so much for that article!!! I never got to read that before. I love how she said that

"Let this album find it's life. If it's a small life, it's still a quality life. Let's trust the people who have been following me who have liked what I have done. If they want to travel with this one, then let's do it together."

What a great sentiment and perspective. She has known even since then that the music industry had changed. She really does sing because she loves it and she really has so much trust in the public that has been supporting her for so many years. Number ones really don't matter anymore. Regardless of her position on a hit singles chart, she's still a relevant contemporary artist because everyone still knows her name. Whether or not her albums sell like they did in the 90's, everyone knows when she's releasing something. So they're doing something right by keeping her name in people's mouths.

So many differences!

To me BYLM sounds like the background vocals are less loud at the beginning and even louder at the end

TLYM - The violin seems placed differently on TLYM and the keyboard/piano during the solo sounds more pronounced.

Tell Him - sounds a bit different when Barbra comes in. It's not the radio edit. Orchestra sounds more pronounced at 3:38

ATW- sounds more orchestral

"First Time" seems to have more synthesized instruments and the piano at the end is more pronounced

"Cream"---got what you got , Davey!

IACD---what a totally different experience!!!! Wow. It's not perfect, but great to have in our collections!

Natural woman---orchestra sounds different...all is balanced differently.

What a great release ! Right out of left field!
