for a 1968 song... its not bad at all.

 

But maybe they could have used the studio version remastered of If I Can Dream instead of that live performance....

 

The problem is not the 68 recording, is the poor junction of celine vocals. Poor edition. I can actually hear the Elvis part beeing cut, the instrumental dissapear and celine enter. They make an hologram of Elvis appear on the show,make this song sound normal is a piece of cake. They did with sinatra. Seriously, this "studio edit" sounds awful.

Great to finally have a version of this without all the audience noise. Strange they left the "thank you, goodnight" in at the end though.

 

It's so frustrating that this is tucked away on a minor release though. Doesn't someone at Sony realise that a widespread release of such "rarities" would probably sell really well around the world? Such a release would be perfect at the moment in light of the postponement of the English release.

In fact, there's something really weird about the mixing here. The parts with Elvis singing has more depth in the background arrangement. When comes to Celine's part, it's more empty and dry. Not as good as I was expecting since it's a Foster's production.

I think I know why. Elvis' part is from a live performance form 1968, meaning it would have been extremely difficult to isolate his vocals from the background music as it's just a video performance (even a studio version could cause problems if they didn't have access to the original master tapes with the acapella). They would have been able to remove some of the background music, and obviously as they made this version a duet they were able to remove some of his parts completely for when it is just Celine singing, but whenever Elvis is singing there is always going to be some of the original 1968 background music mixed in with his vocals in this new version. I imagine they must have faced a similar problem when creating All The Way, as I believe Sinatra's part was also taken from a live performance as the tempo is different. But maybe they were able to remove more of the background music, or maybe the new arrangement compensated for or covered up anything that was left over from the old recording so we can't hear a difference.

Well I'm a bit disappointed and I don't even have it yet! LOL I was really hoping for a solo version from Celine, I wanted to hear her sing the entire song. Oh well, better than nothing til the English album comes out next year.

i just listened to the song with headphones... and i have to agree with some previous posts. It is a really bad mixing and editing. I feel anyone could have done it with windows media movie maker lol
