Does that matter? 2002 was already sufficiently full for her with an hectic promotion plan and two hit singles from the album that she brought everywhere (ANDHC and IA). The third one wasn't the best choice but she had already done crazy efforts everywhere with the first two. My point was that the song was sent to Céline and recorded for the ANDHC album back in 2002, not for any other album. That album already had its many privileges, outstanding tracks, hits and records, but this is another one to add to the list and proves how big the album is, no matter when or how Aretha decided to cover it (actually the video says it's 2005). Many great songs don't get its moment of glory or are really discovered by the public or the artist himself until many more years later. And Céline certainly wanted to give this song its chance, even if it was a year later after its release. Céline, René and Vito Luprano had much care choosing the songs for this album, and it shows.

 

And for once it's another legend covering a CELINE DION original song, and not viceversa. Céline owns this song

I can only agree. I'd say the only promotion Have You Ever Been In Love got during the ANDHC era would be the video of the recording session and two live performance (CBS special and La Fureur de Céline).

 

As we all know, it wasn't until a year later that the song was released as a single, got not one but two official music videos and live performances at The Tonight Show, Live with Regis & Kelly, VH1 Divas Duets, the One Year, One Heart DVD and A New Day...

Exactly! That's my point. And was My Love a song that belongs to the 2008 greatest hits? No, it's from the Taking Chances album, but Céline made it popular while performing it live during the TCWT, and they used it as the promo single from that GH album!

Oh yes, that video with the subtitles was soooo funny, especially when they filmed the gay couple. But it's been out of Youtube for years now. I think that one has disappeared forever though :/

I hope not. If they're going to have her in an Aretha tribute (as they should!), I hope they save it for the Grammys, or something more substantial than the VMAs.

Too bad she has a show on Nov 14th, when they Clive Davis-organized Aretha tribute is to take place at MSG. That one was in the works before her death, and with her expected to attend, so if there's one I'd love to see Celine take part in - it's that one.
