DionFanAlways Posted May 28, 2015 at 08:31 PM Posted May 28, 2015 at 08:31 PM I know what you mean. I think a lot of artists (Barbra Streisand, etc.) can sound like robots with their scripted speech. It's always so refreshing when it feels like the show is in the moment. But I can't imagine how hard that must be night after night after night. I'm sure it's easier to just "phone in" some performances.I think that's the curse from Vegas. I didn't feel that at all at any of the recent French shows! A real concert will always be different than a residential show...I think if she tried to change it, she'd throw the timing off. You know those shows are always down to the second planned. I feel like her planners would be like just stick to this speech.Yes, I agree with you all. I understand why but can you imagine though............... it had to be hard. That's probably why it was robotic at times. The poor band/orch. also.If you watch the little speech she gives at the beginning of Edison, I swear she is about to go into her Vegas speech! Quote I have had the time of my life following this woman! Much love.
celine4evauk Posted May 28, 2015 at 09:09 PM Posted May 28, 2015 at 09:09 PM She's always had the same speeches per tour/lv! It's only occasionally she strays from it. Example: a year and a half of "I love teachers.... how do you do" lol. That's why I love it when things happen unexpectedly on stage, especially when it's because of fans/the audience, because she strays from the script and you see the true, humorous Celine. 3 Quote

Del Posted May 31, 2015 at 04:24 PM Posted May 31, 2015 at 04:24 PM I imagine she would change that robotic speech, although I did understand why it had to be scripted.... I would love a new, fresh talk with each show. I would love more audience interaction. I honestly felt sometimes she just wasn't there...... (and this was back before Rene's issues)I think that's the curse from Vegas. I didn't feel that at all at any of the recent French shows! A real concert will always be different than a residential show...I think if she tried to change it, she'd throw the timing off. You know those shows are always down to the second planned. I feel like her planners would be like just stick to this speech. The speeches could still be scripted but not down to word for word. When I saw Shania vs her show DVD there were differences in the speeches but it was all somewhat similar. Celine is literally the same word for word. She needs to make give it a more personal touch and not to scripted. I know that can be difficult when it's not your maternal language, however it adds a personal element to the show which I find sometimes is not there. It's more natural in her French shows. 1 Quote Instagram: @delphis78
SuperLove4Celine Posted May 31, 2015 at 04:58 PM Posted May 31, 2015 at 04:58 PM Yea, they're covers, but they're kinda hers too. I agree...to a degree. Songs such as "The Power Of Love" and "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" have become more or less "hers", but they are still technically covers. The poster whom I was respond to didn't specify which type of covers. All they said was that there were "no covers" in the list provided in a previous post. That was technically inaccurate. I was simply addressing that inaccuracy. Geez.... can't you see the difference between those songs and Goldfinger, Lullaby, Mr Paganini, etc.? Exactly. Geez...a cover is a cover. It is not like a shade of color where there is navy blue vs. sky blue. It was not specified in the post which "types" of covers were being addressed. Furthermore, why is a song such as "River Deep, Mountain High" given a free ride by so many on here when it is in the same category of "Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)." Celine first performed "River Deep, Mountain High" on David Letterman's show, as was mentioned by her official website. It wasn't until years later that she finally did an album version of the song. However, it seems that song, as well as other covers she has done (i.e. "Can't Help Falling In Love," "Quand on n'a qui l'amour," etc.) are given "passes", yet others are demonized (i.e. "Overjoyed," "Mr. Paganini"). It seems as if there is a double-standard. Quote

It seems as if there is a double-standard. But the thing is that when she sings "Can't Help Falling In Love" and "Quand on n'a que l'amour," you can hear that she's into the song and that she enjoys putting the power and energy into that song (those last notes of each of them ). When she's singing "Lullabye," "Overjoyed" and "Ne me quitte pas," everything just seems so strict, and repetitive, night after night, having the same tears at the end of NMQP and the baton twirling in RDMH. I don't dislike these songs though, I guess I just don't like the way that she does her take on them and the way she performs them. It's important to distinguish a good cover and a bad cover, and everyone's opinion will differ over what is a good and bad cover. And at this point, are we really not considering TPOL, IACBTMN, and all the rest her songs? Yes, they were originally covers, but they've been part of her repertoire for the last twenty years... 2 Quote http://i.imgur.com/dQ1vYVz.jpgMais qui peut dire, qu’il peut vivre sans amour, qui?
Nmj Posted May 31, 2015 at 10:23 PM Posted May 31, 2015 at 10:23 PM I disagree I believe techincally yes they are covers, but songs like: 1. All By Myself2. I Drove All night 3. It's All Coming Back To Me Now4. Taking Chances5. If You Asked Me To6. The Power of Love ^ all of these songs are very popular Celine songs l, all probably more successful by Celine than by the original artist. Also do you then consider " Loved Me Back To Life" a cover it was recorded by SIA as a demo, if that's the case any song not written by Celine ( which is all lol) is a cover. I don't agree with that theory. However songs like: 1. Goldfinger 2. Me Paganini 3. Open Arms4. Alone5. Dance with my father6. It's a mans World And even 7. River Deep Mountain High All of these I DO consider covers, because they aren't as popular as the original artist' versions. Also those songs didn't play a HUGE role in her career, making them a Celine Classic. Maybe I'm crazy but songs like "it's all coming back to me now" , " the power of love" and " all by myself" will always be Celine's song even if one was recorded by Meatloaf , one by Jennifer Rush and the other by Eric Carmen, to me they earned their spot in a setlist of her shows for 2 reasons the first being fans and non fans associate them with Celine, and 2 they expect to hear those songs at her concert. 6 Quote

Oh, believe me, I don't disagree with the majority of what you have said. My original post on the matter was simply wanting to clarify that there were in fact covers, no matter how you slice and dice it, in the list "Kyle_Jared" posted. By the way, I think more people associate "I Drove All Night" as a Cyndi Lauper or Roy Orbison song before Celine. "All By Myself" is probably about a 50/50 split between Celine and Eric Carmen, depending on the type of demographic you ask (i.e. Adult Contemporary vs. Rock). id personally love to hear a more stripped back celine. like she did at the edison ballroom. an accoustic sounding setlist would be very intimate and sound out of this world! Agreed! Songs such as "Ten Days," "Taking Chances" and "I'm Alive" would sound amazing in an acoustic type setting. Even "Let's Talk About Love" would be a great addition, as it has already been performed acoustically in the past: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xNMlOGwv8Y 1 Quote
