Celine on Oprah 2011

I also thought for her very last Oprah appearance they should have devoted a whole show. Celine as a guest on a show about babies? Hm, didn't we do that already?

Yes, that was also strange. For a show who was supposed to be her last one in the house, it was a cold farewell. Strange. Oprah should have devoted all the show to Céline, being the guest that has been the most to her show, the sextuplets and all the twins story could have gone into another different episode.

But we know thanks to our members that Céline talked and they taped more footage than what we saw. It's just rare that Oprah has edited her that much and not done the whole show with her. Not the kind of goodbye that I expected of Oprah

Unless she's planning something for the premiere of the new show, like they did in 2003...?

i disagree javito.

a world tour is one thing vegas is different. yes celine tried in some small way, she tried nature boy, she tried j'taime encore, they got replaced with a new day has come, and songs that people know.

every singer has songs they hate singing but have to sing, they have to sing them because the public want to hear them, bryan adams said in an interview everything i do has now grown to the point where it gets on his nerves, im sure celine gets fed up with my heart will go on, cher wanted burlesque to be a hit so she could add 2 new songs to her concerts as she is bored of her hits. but they HAVE to sing them, if the reviews in vegas said "celine dion sings songs from her back catalogue but unless your a fan you wont have heard of them" people are going to stay away, why spend $200 to see half an hour of songs youve never heard. yes maybe 2 or 3, but people either want her hits or songs they recognise.

i do agree with you, songs like the ones you said deserve to be heard live, i would pay $200 to hear her sing loads of her rare songs, or to take requests, that would be amazing, but im a fan,

but to be really honest with you im really looking forward to celines new show, i think it will be great to hear her interpret other songs, hopefully if this is what she is going to do instead of yet another power of love we will get something like "take my breath away" or "i will always love you"

at the end of the day if she does this when she eventually releases a cd and dvd of the concert we will have different songs!!! celines live albums tend to have power of love, my heart will go on etc. i think the idea of the show is a good one and celine is going to enjoy it sooooo much more than getting up singing the same set list again and again. although ill gamble my heart will go on will end up being the last song by the end of three years!! lmao

i thought that she was great even though she was not on the whole time but she was brought back so techniqucally it was a whole show just not for 2 segments!

I'm not sure about that to be honest.

If you're going to see a Celine Dion concert, anywhere in the world, you're going because you want to hear "the voice." Of course you can go with a realistic expectation that you'll hear "the hits" - The Power of Love, Because You Loved Me, My Heart Will Go On etc, and I also don't have any problem with a small tribute or cover section in each concert either - thinking Medley Acoustic in the LTAL tour or Queen tribute in the TCWT.

You should also be able to go a concert with a realistic expectation that it's going to differ considerably from footage you saw of Celine Dion concerts from 10 years ago. Yet Celine's set lists stay scarily familiar. You know what would've been a fantastic song for Oprah this week? "Prayer" from the ANDHC album but no let's roll out another cover instead of giving one of Celine's original, and fantastic, own songs a go.

I want to hear Celine interpret her own songs not other people's. Like someone else said why does "I Drove All Night" command a place in Celine's shows? It was NOT a hit for Celine so why is it in there? Is it because of her so called lack of "uptempo songs"? I would love to draw their attention to "Just A Little Bit Of Love", "Right In Front Of You", "Lovin' Proof", "That's The Way It Is", "Reveal" - yeah Celine has a real lack of uptempo ORIGINAL songs.......

Celine used to set the trends. Take the risks to get higher and farther than the rest. Now, it seems she's content to replicate them.

I agree, there are so many uptempo Celine songs she could perform. TTWII was number one worldwide almost and its still neglected live :(

Anyone who goes to a Celine concert as a "regular fan" would be more likely to appreciate a song from her back catalogue than they are some karaoke cover.

Eeeeexactly my point Shaun!   Why on Earth she has to look for others people songs when she has HER own great uptempo songs? It's something I'll never understand sorry  And the same applies for ballads or whatever song of her own discography. Covers are their first choice instead of checking her own albums

Totally agree. Guydavies I see what you say, but honestly I'd rather see Céline performing her own songs first or songs that she has never performed than seeing her resorting to songs from others one after the other nowadays. And do you really think people stops to think if she's doing more covers or other unknown songs from her albums? Do you think they care? They want to hear MHWGO and TPOL yes, but other than that, some unknown -but GREAT- jewels from her discography won't annoy anybody :thumbsup2:

I think Mego is the first person who wants Céline to perform more of her own songs, according to an interview that Darren had with him. He's with us on this... not the same with René I guess

I'm one of those fans who will love Celine regardless. I plan to attend her show in Vegas and enjoy every moment of it for myself and for all those who have the desire to be there but can't. There seems to be a lot of concern about Celine doing covers of songs. Honestly, she ll probably sing ones that I never cared to listen to before but since she's singing them, I will discover something new.

A lot of people seem to be complaining about celine's musical choices and what she presents to fans. My question is who makes up celine's writing team? Is she having difficulty finding writers that you as fans like who can keep up with the current trends in music without her having to place censor labels on her music? What does it take to please you? She has millions of fans all over the world, each of which have their own desires for what they would like to see Celine do. Is her age a factor in who wants to write for her? If I had the opportunity, I'd share with her music that I have written that I would love to hear her sing as I.am sure many of you do. Do they not feel she can cut it amongst the current nontalents that people seem to be attracted to? I'm sorry but I'm old school in a way. Celine comes from a generation of singers who families as a whole can listen to. I can put her cd on and not worry about suggestive language that kids can figure out. I can use my imagination. I can "feel" Celine. This stuff they call music today is garbage and too provocative for my innocent ears. Even the Disney singers are getting outrageous. Growing up too fast

There needs to be a way to get our voices heard. And the best way is to go to Celine directly. People need to ask her these type of ?'s to her when they get to meet with her.

Thank you, absolutely, yes yes yes!!!! Nice to hear this. I completely echo all of this and I, too would give any of my songs to her in an instant.

As I said yesterday, how can we get this info to those who make choices in addition to our lively discussions here?

I think the reason why That's The Way It Is is not performed live anymore because it's a pop song from the 90s that recall the era of Britney Spears/Backstreet Boys/N'Sync which is nowadays revolved. The song had a time; even though I like this song but it recalls a lot of this bubblegum pop era that MAYBE Celine chose to cancel it out. :thumbsup2:

This was her biggest recent hit of the 90s/ early 00's ..ANDHC was big but not like Thats the way it is was and i believe it was her last #1...it should not be dropped it has every right to be in her setlist as much as the TPOL, BYLM and MHWGO

I agree with you! There are songs Celine has recorded that I would have probably never heard because I don't care for their style. But when Celine sings them they're amazing to me because of her voice. As far as today's music, most of it has no substance. They are hot for the moment but 2-3 years down the road no one will remember them!

The greatest voice ever! ♥

If "I'm Alive" can be re-worked to sound fresh (Taking Chances World Tour anyone?) then "That's The Way It Is" certainly could as well.

Except they ruined I'm Alive on that tour in my opinion. The Vegas version was better it was just the nasal in her vocals that made it sound bad in Vegas.

In my opinion, they made "I'm Alive" new, fresh and energetic again. The "A New Day..." version become horrible through the years as Celine decided it was best to just start inserting random, silly and unneeded phrases. The tribal feel that the Taking Chances World Tour version had to it was amazing and was perfectly complimented by the choreography.

i third that, I love how she sped it up and had some moments where it was just her and no instrumentation. And I also agree on why TTWII is not in there.

The Vegas version of IA was as bad as LCMM. I think the Tour version was better, but overall I hope the song forever disappears.

TTWII....I don't think this song has earned its place to be as important as TPOL, MHWGO, and BYLM...I do agree that this song has that late 90's sound that just wouldn't sound right being performed in a concert today. It would sound to bubble-gum ish...her early ballads are timeless, this song is not.

Plus this song has always been a let down when done live, except in the lone original key performance. We all know the ending of that song is extremely high and there is no way that she would do that in the original key on a tour so the only chance of getting this song is getting crappy performances to.

I would love to see this in a TV special or a promo, but a continuous tour or such, no. Same with ANDHC. It has no umph to me. Next....

You know what's ironic?

Celine was still a child and she came up to her mother and told her that she wanted to be a singer. Do you know what Maman Dion replied to her?

She said: Ok Céline, if your going to be a singer, your gonna do it right. You will sing your own songs and not covers....

Then Thérèse wrote Ce N'Était Qu'un Reve....

Maybe they should bring back grandma to the discussion table, like she used to...

Could it be? Maybe this lady of 83 has more sense than René and Céline together and still knows when a song is suitable and good and when its not

I agree about the likes and dislikes of her shows for people. I do however take issue with the "We all love Celine "regardless" because it suggests without conditions but many don't love Celine without condition. There are many people who like Celine under conditions. The expectation is that she pleases everyone at every moment and if she doesn't, she is criticized, it seems, beyond reproach. Perhaps it is the way in which people express their dislike for certain things but for me, I am thankful that I have a person I can listen to and not worry about what she's going to say because it might be inappropriate for a child's ears (I'm always thinking about music in this way). Much of the music children listen to today introduces ideas to them that are much too old for their age group (Children are impressionable and are influenced by music). As I said before, whether it is intentional or not on Celine's part, i appreciate Celine's music choices regardless if original or a cover because for me, she is making the right choices musically. But, everyone has an opinion and some of those opinions suggests she is not making the right choices. The number of fans (and her great wealth) suggests otherwise. To each his/her own
