wjd Posted June 8, 2010 at 09:34 PM Posted June 8, 2010 at 09:34 PM At the end of the day, its all about money. Celine is Sony's top active artist, bar none. Only Michael Jackson is her equal as far as record sales and $$$ gross is concerned. Sony have called Celine their flagship artist on so many occasions. Sony will do whatever they can to hold onto Celine, and she's loyal, thanks to her earlier affiliations with the likes of David Foster. When people raise this issue about her leaving Sony, I always think back to an article I once read about Celine; she has the highest royalty rate of any non-songwriter in the music industry (this was back in 2007 when Taking Chances was released) - her royalty rate exceeds 25% and Sony refuse to do deals with any songwriter that won't agree to this. So whilst Sony might not promote her songs in the correct manor, together with Rene, they have masterminded arguably one of the greatest careers in music history, and whether you like it or not, Celine owes as much to Sony, as they do to her! Celine IS Sony in my opinion, and Sony defines Celine in some respects too. Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?
