Angel2006 Posted June 6, 2010 at 03:29 PM Posted June 6, 2010 at 03:29 PM This is stupid. Obviously Celine is happy with Sony, so if she's happy we shouldn't be worried about silly little things like that. I think she gets enough publicity for someone who has been in the music business for this long. Look at Barbara Striesand, Tony Bennett, Phil Collins, even John Bon Jovi. We don't really hear anything about these people that much. You can't expect someone who has been in the music business for 30 years to be as populare as someone who's just been in the business for a few years, who's really populare. For someone who has been in the business for 30 years now, I think Celine is getting more then enough publicity. I hear about her on Entertainment Tonight all the time and whenever there is breaking news about her, it's all over the internet and news, just look at her pregnancy and how fast that news traveled. Celine must be doing ok with Sony if she's the Num 1 Selling Female Artist Of All Time!! Why destroy a perfectly good thing, Celine is happy with Sony and her business decisions are really nown of our business. That's just my opinion on the subject. Quote

Acacia Posted June 6, 2010 at 03:34 PM Posted June 6, 2010 at 03:34 PM One thing I do want to add is I love that Celine isn't a "media attention" freak. She's comfortable with who she is and her main priority is being a mother to her children. If she and Rene wanted to they could work like crazy to promote her just right and make sure the spotlight is constantly on her, but that's not their priority. I do think she deserves more promotion, but as she has said, she is simply serving the music and doing it both for the fans and because she enjoys it. I just her for that!!! Why do you immediately go to the extremes?A singer is free to experiment and explore different kinds of music, but that doesn't mean changing one's direction completely. Was "I have nothing left" a cutting-edge song for her? Did they promote the collaboration with Will.i.am at all? Thank God no. LOLWhat about Alone & My love then?SONY wanted to use Eyes on me (Remix), but Will.i.am's record label denied the permission. I guess they don't want to make Will.i.am's image uncool by promoting with Celine Dion. SONY tried to sent the Alone single to radio station as mystery artist work. But as soon as the DJs found out it's from Celine Dion, they stopped playing the song. SONY spent a lot of money to make the TC MV. But almost no TV station play it. So why would they waste more money on the next music video. What kind of TCWT promo do you think SONY can do while Celine is pregnant and won't appear in any show, just call in a few random shows? I bet even the call in shows are Rene who made her do it, or we won't hear anything from her about the DVD. As if she cares about a DVD instead of the twins in her belly now. dj4celine Posted June 6, 2010 at 05:40 PM Posted June 6, 2010 at 05:40 PM (edited) Plus, if she doesn't care about that stuff she can't possibly attract a team that will. The Law of Attraction seems absolutely valid in this case. Very well said Beyonce wants to promote albums while Celine doesn't want to. When Beyonce will have 29 years of career, I highly doubt she will still films videos for almost every songs of the album! I think she will soon become exactly like Barbra Streisand, I mean once she is done with Vegas, with her 3 children. You hit the nail on the head, JP. When we analyze carefully, it's not actually Sony's fault. Bellamy pointed out very appropriately what went wrong even though Sony pushed a lot for Taking Chances. Yes, the single choices may have bee different, but Sony picked it and no one (Celine or Rene) cared for it. Celine, herself pointed out that she doesn't pick the singles as she thinks its not her job and believes in her team for that. This proves that she doesn't give a damn what is being promoted and how it is being promoted. At this point in her life, she is more concerned with her family. And she has every right to it. She gave enough of her life for show business. My grudge with her is that now that she is pregnant, she should take some time off and fully concentrate on her family. If and when she decides to come back, she should divert her attention to at least getting the album right, by picking songs which have a realistic meaning and not dwell on the oh-so-done-a-million-times subject of love over and over again. Look how surprised she was when she was given "This Time" to record. She should be given more songs like that. And once she is done with the album, she should voice out what she wants as singles and promote it. While promoting she should limit herself to the album talk and not talk about family in every single promotional event. But haven't we already gone through this so many times over and over again. We expect so much from her and her team, but in the end, we end being disappointed. Her fans will be there, but there is little faith that she will garner any new ones. She just isn't juicy and interesting enough for these present times. She has crossed over to a level where Beyonce or Gaga or any other "young and hot" artist would only dream to reach someday. Maybe someday they will get there, but for now, they just can bathe in whatever attention they are getting from the press and media. Just my two cents EDIT: Bellamy, VH1 just played "I Drove All Night" here Edited June 6, 2010 at 05:41 PM by dj4celine Quote

Timster Posted June 6, 2010 at 06:00 PM Posted June 6, 2010 at 06:00 PM While I do agree that Celine doesn't get promoted as much as other current artists, the fact that TTEOTW reached no.1 in the UK with no promotion proves that Celine can sell regardless. I think the reason she gets less promotion is because she's reached the status of being the best selling female artist of all time, so I'm sure Sony think that their work is done. I think Celine's promotion stopped when she started Vegas in 2003, but this wasn't necesaarily Sony's fault. The fact that Celine was in Vegas meant that she couldn't promote her albums much at all. It didn't help that One Heart was released at the start of Vegas, if it was released a few months before, maybe when the ANDHC sales started to dip, she could have promoted it really well. Instead, she did very few TV appearances. The same happened with Miracle, she did Oprah and just one or two other performances. The Live in Las Vegas CD was not promoted at all! Yet she went all the way to France to promote On ne change pas! So when you look at her promotion during Vegas from 2003-2006, I think the Taking Chances promotion in 2007 was quite good, especially as she was still doing Vegas at the time. I hope the new Vegas show doesn't do the same to Celine's new albums. As long as she sticks to 70 shows a year, I'm sure she will have a much better balance between her show and her promotion (and her family!). So overall, I blame Vegas for her lack of promotion, not Sony. But Sony could do more to make sure her albums are stronger and the right songs are chosen as singles. Quote

Javito Posted June 6, 2010 at 06:10 PM Posted June 6, 2010 at 06:10 PM Another fact we have also to take into account is that the music industry has changed a lot in a very short timeframe. From 2002 to 2010 a lot of things have drastically changed unfortunately. I can't help but to think that Céline and René are so stuck to the "old times" and the way things worked in the past. Consequently, they don't show interest in how things have to be done today when it comes to promote music. They are not aware of the great deal work and efforts that are needed today to get attention from radios, TV's and the public in general. René is 68, he has been in showbussiness all her life. I don't think we are going to change his mind about how things have to be done. We won't convince him of the power that a good videoclip or a proper remix has today to support a good single. BUT also, Céline is 42. She has 30 years of career behind her back. Honestly, do not expect great changes in the future, except the classic release of her albums (and be thankful that she will still release music) and a handful of TV appearances here and there to support the release. It's hard to accept this when she was at the top of the music industry not so many years back (in 1999, or in 2002 -had it not been for Las Vegas show, she could have conquered the world with that album-) but her priorities really have changed, and I think Music today is like a "hobby" for her, but not her "profession", if you know what I mean Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

So overall, I blame Vegas for her lack of promotion, not Sony. But Sony could do more to make sure her albums are stronger and the right songs are chosen as singles. I feel it happened this way: Sony turned his back on Céline when they saw her plans to move to Las Vegas and "retire" there for 3 years (that became five eventually). Period. With all the efforts and money that Sony put with the promotion of ANDHC, honestly, I would be "angry" if an artist did that to me. I now understand the attitude and behaviour of Sony Music through all these years, since it was Céline and René who decided to turn their back on all the promotion (and who knows what more plans Sony had for that album) of her comeback album in 2002. I can understand that Sony became uninterested with that move of Céline Kind of disappointed And she's going to do that again now Sony has had a lot of patient with Céline and her strange career moves, really. While I do agree that Celine doesn't get promoted as much as other current artists, the fact that TTEOTW reached no.1 in the UK with no promotion proves that Celine can sell regardless. Davey84 Posted June 6, 2010 at 07:16 PM Posted June 6, 2010 at 07:16 PM Claudette... Celine will never leave Sony. Celine is one of Sony's biggest artists. To give you an example: they actually use Celine to advertise Sony on one of our local ''idol'' shows, not one of our local artists, but Celine. I agree with you that they don't treat her with the necessary respect she deserves and that they just use her to make money. Hell, one of Sony's employees told me over the phone that Celine pays their salaries. But I don't see her leaving them anytime soon. I do that. Whenever there is a competition or some type of thing where you can request songs I choose Celine songs. But I have to say that we here in SA are very lucky as there are loads of radio stations that still play a lot of Celine songs everyday. I think it is because Celine is still very big here. I mean she is the biggest selling artist in SA. you just answered why Céline wouldn't leave Sony... based on Sony SA! unfortunatly it might only be Sony SA that uses Céline as a support! on the Sony Netherlands site she's not in the top banner and the last news report is from 28 november 2008!!!! nothing about the tour, the new cd/dvd, the movie! NOTHING! and I'm sure that'll count for more countries too! I agree with JAvito, Sony turned his back on Céline cos of Vegas... but I don't agree totally, cos it's not like the Chrysler deal was a big surprise! the negotiations for a sponsorship contract must have been held eversince the ceasars deal was on! it would have been smarter to release the IDAN +OH songs through a bonus disc of a rerelease of ANDHC, but face it, ANDHC was long dead after GTSW was released! Also, I can understand if Sony is reluctant to have her songs play on radio stations, nowadays. Celine never was a huge singles artist, and Sony knows that. Maybe that's why they do not really care to pick good singles. I must say, that I was royally irked when they chose Alone as the second singles on TC. That was horrible, IMO. that's true, but that doesn't mean they can't promote her albums or dvds! I haven't seen any promotion for the TCWT releases!!! they should look at Coty's marketing strategy for a new parfum! they are everywhere! if Coty can do that for a parfume, than why not sony for a cd? and it wouldn't have to be just posters and such, but promotion on the internet now, would be smart too nowadays! Look at Barbara Striesand, Tony Bennett, Phil Collins, even John Bon Jovi. We don't really hear anything about these people that much. You can't expect someone who has been in the music business for 30 years to be as populare as someone who's just been in the business for a few years, who's really populare. yes... but YET these people, well Phil Collins and Bon Jovi are still played much on the radio! the only time I hear Céline is a end years chart of top 2000 songs, or something like that! I'm a bit afraid that Céline is slipping into the 'Nana Mouskori' category: appreciated in her day, but not played anywhere in current music stations! I have a solution for all of you guys that reckon they don't play her on the radio. Change your radio station. I don't believe for one moment that no radio station plays Celine anymore. You guys are not listening to the right stations then. Yes, most mainstream stations don't play her, but honnestly, who cares because they play a load of s*** in any case. I've changed my station last year from a mainstream station to an AC station and they play loads of Celine songs everyday. I totally enjoy the type of music they play in any case a thousand times more: no Britney, Rihanah, Mariah, or Lady Gaga... yeah but it would be amazing if you'd hear TC or Fade Away inbetween Pokerface and Please don't stop the music I agree. He should give us solution instead of just complaining, cause even us fans had heard enough of those complaints. Just imaging why would SONY or her team take it seriously. this is a discussion forum, noone holds the solution in his hands, otherwise that person would have followed up René years ago! SONY tried to sent the Alone single to radio station as mystery artist work. But as soon as the DJs found out it's from Celine Dion, they stopped playing the song. I don't think they even played the song, cos they would have know it was céline after removing the information sleeve and seeing her picture SONY spent a lot of money to make the TC MV. But almost no TV station play it. So why would they waste more money on the next music video. that's something they have to tackle and answer.. it's their work! IMO they shouldn't have spend the whole 100.000 budget on one mv, but on 3 plus there could have been a storyline in the music videos, why let céline say 'What's next' at the end of TC, if there is no next! but my advice would be: ditch the old team; get surrounded by new people who know what's playing in the music scene today! not what was hot in 1999 and may I add; SING NEW SONGS IN A CONCERT, NOT THE BLOODY SAME FOR 15 YEARS!!! I watched Madonna's 2008 concert today, and that was an interesting setlist! and even the 100 year old songs sound fresh and new! So maybe it would have been good to release One Heart then, or even better put the songs on a second disc for the ANDHC Special Edition to boost those sales. Ok, it would have been very soon after ANDHC, but I think some promotion time before Vgeas is better than no promotion at all! Quote
Javito Posted June 6, 2010 at 07:39 PM Posted June 6, 2010 at 07:39 PM I think Celine's promotion stopped when she started Vegas in 2003, but this wasn't necesaarily Sony's fault. Under no circumstances would they have released 2 english albums so close one to each other! What you mean, ANDHC was released in march 2002, so One Heart should've been released in november or what? Wouldn't have been more logical to release the new songs from One Heart in a 2 double disc special edition of A New Day Has Come, since it seems those songs belong to that album? Well that's what I thought. Cos they released the ANDHC special edition in November 2002 as the sales were falling. So maybe it would have been good to release One Heart then, or even better put the songs on a second disc for the ANDHC Special Edition to boost those sales. Ok, it would have been very soon after ANDHC, but I think some promotion time before Vgeas is better than no promotion at all! Of course Tim, but does the "promotion" word exist in Sony's head after the first 2 months of life of a Céline Dion album? NO 2 or 3 months pass since the release of one of her albums, and its as if if had been swallowed by Earth. No one has heard a word about a Celine Dion album  It's been like that every single time since 2003! Shania Twain's Up! album was released in 2002 too and in 2004 she still had singles extracted from it!! Why can't Céline??? Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
