New AOL interview

Anyone else found the interview intersting? Everyone is so concerned with the whole playback-autotuned issue, nobody cares about the interview.

 

So according to the interview Celine was in Florida on her birthday and not in NY like some people said...

I, however, do like the way "The Power of Love" is sung here. I do wish it wasn't vocoded so much, but it's fresh and new.

She’s capable of much much more - the point is she IS already struggling with the first stanza which is live and exactly this would force her to re-think the whole song and sing it differently. she’d just afraid to STEP THE HELL UP AND SHINE!

 

She can shine all the way.Still after all these years. It’s just a matter of her will. And she doesn’t seem to have this will somehow. Yet she’s embarking on another 20 year+ Vegas stint.

 

She could sing MHWGO once live in 2009, she can sing TPOL easily after having adjusted it.

 

And WHOEVER says autotune is not bad needs to be shot RIGHT NOW! It’s like having a playback tape is not perfect enough, they need to freaken CORRECT her already pre-taped (!) sound as if that would be needed in first place! You either pre-record a track and leave it untouched or autotune it once in studio for the album but not for a live CD!

 

Now y’all ask yourself that: Would Live A Paris be the same CD if she autotuned it or sang any of the songs playback? What else can you take from her without speaking up? What’s the next step?

Guys, what about opening a seperate thread about the whole playback/lipping business, I'm getting a bit tired because somehow it's started to come up in every topic

 

I know, I wish there was a seperate topic for lipsynch and playback. I've sent PMs to Bellamy and Koolan in the past but neither have replied!!

that's the whole thing, just adjust the song to what she can these days, not what she did way back then...

but then, i think rene is afraid that we dont want to hear another version i really dont understand why they think we want the cd-version 20 years later. Also that's why her audience is getting older and older ;-)

That's a shame I really think everyone will benefit from a playback topic, as those who want to discuss playbacks can without clogging up other threads, and those who don't can simply not read the topic. Simple!

 

This is a Celine Dion Forum, where we discuss everything Celine. We already talk about playbacks in loads of other topics, I don't see why we should go to another site full of non-Celine fans just to do this. I'm sure if you explain in the first post that the topic has been made to eliminate the subject being brought up in other threads, then people will understand and be 'mature' about it, especially those who don't like it when things go off-topic elsewhere on the forum.

 

I strongly urge you to reconsider Koolan. It will be nice to have a place of freedom where people aren't going to complain about it and cause arguments for once.

Celine's Blues: TPOL has been lipped during every tour, so how can you even compare this with her version of 20 years ago?

 

I'm pretty sure Celine can still blow that song out of the park. The point is: she can't sing the song live 152 times over a period of a year. so for that reason, yes, they need to consider changing the arrangement or something, but not bcause she can't sing it anymore. But mirage is right: they think that the fans want to hear Celine's biggest hits just the way they were recorded... so they stick with the playback versions.

 

I would also like to point out something to you guys complaining about the fact that this is not Celine's best vocal performance. Whether this was really live or recorded afterwards, is not the point. It was recorded either deep into the tour or afterwards, which means that Celine was tired and needed a break. Furthermore, Celine really did struggle during the US leg of the tour with her voice and some throat and sinus infections. And not just November and December of 2008. I remember that even in some of the reviews people wrote in January and February last year they said that Celine was still struggling with colds and stuff. Even in the tourbook you see it. So obviously, like someone mentioned before, it was totally stupid to record the song during the time Celine was ready for a break. In my opinion, they should film the DVDs earlier in the shows/tours.

Claudette there is no need to answer to some people who doesn't want to admit that Celine has evolved and she is not like before! They want the old Celine but a true fan always loves her even if she changes!

That assumes that everyone that accepts Celine using playback are the only ones who want to talk about it. There are plenty of people here who would happily argue all day that everything she ever sings is live, which is fine if they truly have reached the conclusion that this is what they believe. We can't have one section for those who believe in playback and a different section for those who don't. And there could never be a place to talk freely about her using playback without it turning into an argument with those people who swear that she doesn't. And you could never start a topic about how everything is live without someone trying to "open people's eyes" about what really goes on, or what they think really goes on.

 

A couple of months ago I was all for a dedicated topic but as I was writing the rules and guidelines on how people would be expected to behave there was just post after post of bickering and arguments appearing on the forum and it became obvious that it can't be controlled in the way it would need to be. It's a topic that can never be agreed on or proved definitively one way or another which means it's a topic that will always be debated, and therefore a topic that will always end up going beyond civilised discussions to the point where we end up where we've been time and time again with suspensions and warnings because people have gone too far and started being abusive. At the minute we have seen nothing that shows anything would be different if there was a dedicated place to talk about, the conversations would still spill out into other topics, the arguments would still go on. We would just be moving the problem around.

The irony is that it’s Céline HERSELF who keeps reminding us about it constantly over and over again. Like a boomerang. The newest icing on the cake is the excessive and needless use of autotune. We should be grateful. Celine is to try hard in order to give their fans always something special.

There are not many artists who make it that way. and I am proud to be one of their fans.

We must also consider how long celine is already in the business. how often her singing voice is

required. We all know she can still sing really well. Just to watch the studio recordings of taking

chances. celine is and remains the best artist. and if she occasionally will not even sing live,

who cares? she must not exaggerate. We all want to have a lot of new cds. we must remember,

once her voice is broken, then this will never work properly again. just listen to whitney houston

or Mariah Carey for example. whose voice is not really great. yesterday in the German television

came a movie and they have used two songs by celine. "Have you ever been in love" and "I Know What Love Is"

we had over the years so many great things from celine whether there were cds, dvds or blu-rays.

I can only thank Celine and say that she should thus make more. she has gone on the right way.

Especially celine has remained a lovable person. such a good heart person is not too often on the world.

What I don't get Celine's Blues is that you think Celine is being lazy for not singing TPOL or MHWGO as she did in 1997....do you ever think that maybe her voice changed? (I noticed her voice is "deeper" now) I don't think Celine nor Rene would accept a crappy version of any song specially one featured on a CD/DVD...

 

We all miss her being at her peak, like in 1996, but give her a rest! she sung those songs more than 1000 times, they are not going to came up like the cd version!

 

 

 

We do believe Celine is Super Girl! that she can sing forever and ever...she is human! not the Energizer bunny!

I would love for you to re-consider too, but I definitely understand the reasonining you have for deciding against it. However, like every topic on here, we have a choice to post a reply, or if it doesn't interest us, we choose not too. There are a lot of people who have no interest in playbacks, but would continue to post in there with loads of BS. It's sad that those people have to take away from the ones who would like a place to discuss it. And I think it is important to have ONE place, because right now I'm always feeling like I'm on the edge for being banned because I'm bringing it up (or responding to someone else who has) in 42 different topics and getting yelled at each time. Many people truly don't want to talk about it at all, but they have it spammed in all those topics. So what do we do? Restrict it completely? Or let the spam in all those other ones stay? Make a topic? Restricting it completely would be a bit unfair...like it or not, it's a large part of her live shows (I think 30% is a large part!). There is no denying that. Restricting it is unfair for those who want to discuss it while leaving it the way it is is unfair for those who don't. It's a lose-lose with this. Yes, a topic could potentially turn into a bad thing, but it's the only thing that could potentially be a "win" for each side. But is there harm in trying it for a short week? If at the end of that week, if things are complete mayhem then we'll delete the topic and look back on it as a mistake. If things are not mayhem, then we can move forward with that method in place?

 

I guess my arguement here is that right now there is a problem....and I'm not sure if the current method we're going about this is the best for everyone.

It's your forum, you are going to do what you feel is best for it, so I'll trust whatever decision you do end up making. I just wanted to debate my side.

for sure she still has 'it' ;-)

she wasnt in topshape during LBDB, but i just loved the little raw sound in her voice

 

and i'm so sure that whatever people say about Vegas, with an orchestra and not so many shows per year, she will blow us away. Even with the old 'lip synch' ballads. I hope they will re-arrange everything for that show
