Tyler1991 Posted April 15, 2010 at 06:52 PM Posted April 15, 2010 at 06:52 PM (edited) Sorry, but I don't believe for one second that this is live. It's a studio track placed on top of concert footage.....also known as "dubbing" ...something that Mariah Carey has done with all of her video releases dating back to 1993. Except her people do a far better job at making it look real. They dub in audience cheers and leave in a live feeling; at times, too much of the live feeling (they over-do it sometimes)....anyay, this dubbing is evident in how there is no live feeling to the video at all except a slight bit of reverb. There is no audience noise outside of the first line. And for the most part, all of her Celine-isms that she does when lipping appear to be present in this. Strange eyebrow twitches and obsessive jaw movement to make it look like vibrato is being added in. Although these Celine-isms are far less than what is present in the AND DVD...I still think that this means the "singing under the playback theory" and/or singing it live for one night is no longer a possibility. But I suppose if the audio was taken directly from the mic wihle singing under the playback (with the mic low) that could reduce a lot of audience noise, but certainly not that much. Anyway, it's definitely 2009 (or 2008 or perhaps but doubtful 2010) vocals. No complaining there. It's great to have something new and glad to see she can still do it. We can see a bunch of people cheering and clapping right in front of Celine (like at 0:10) but we can't hear anything. I think the whole concert will be like that but it's not a problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSC7i863D1A Edited April 15, 2010 at 07:53 PM by Calypso Quote

Claudette Posted April 15, 2010 at 08:11 PM Posted April 15, 2010 at 08:11 PM (edited) Thanks for the video and article! Why do you guys keep analyzing this. Obviously it has been dubbed, but I wouldn't necessarily say with a studio version. You guys have to remember that they filmed the concert four nights and edited that performance together from all the clips. I would say that it is still very possible that she did sing it live one night and that they used that audio and dubbed it over the video footage which they edited together from the four different shows. That would explain why it still looks like she lips it at times. I sounds live too me though. Anyway, this proves to me that Celine is still without a doubt the best singer out there. davidjag79 Posted April 15, 2010 at 08:16 PM Posted April 15, 2010 at 08:16 PM Thank you so much for sharing!! Many would say your life, up to this point, has been very much a fairy tale. Could you possibly want for more? What is it that you want for the future?Ooh -- I think I just want to be where I am today. I love my life. I am extremely fortunate. I hope to remain healthy, that would be the main thing. My health will bring me wherever I'm supposed to be. I keep dreaming. I'm positive, I take one thing at a time, I have my wonderful husband and my beautiful son and my entire family -- we're very close -- and honestly there's nothing else for me to wish for. I want to be, in 10 years, exactly where I am today: healthy and happy. I LOVE THIS WOMAN! But I kind of agree with you, I don't think the vocals do sound completely natural. I can't really tell what they've done, but unless we get the original vocals from this recording (maybe if it's used as a playback in the future), then we'll never know how much work they did on the track. Hopefully not as much as RDMH from Vegas! Quote

You raise a very good point. The video comes from four performances, while the audio (likely) 1. IF it was live for one night, it is possible that video of the other three lipped could be placed on top of the live audio in conjunction with the actual video. Quote
Céline's Blues Posted April 15, 2010 at 08:44 PM Posted April 15, 2010 at 08:44 PM I’d say they just put the original playback through ProTools or that software I forgot the name of that was huge for correcting the pitch and they simply mixed it so that it sounds a little different than the original but way more mechanical. http://i43.tinypic.com/34t67ab.jpg Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
Timster Posted April 15, 2010 at 08:45 PM Posted April 15, 2010 at 08:45 PM Yeah I never thought of that - well done Claudette! However judging by her previous live attemps of this song in the 90s, I'd say this version is too perfect to be live. But then again we don't know - she might find it easier now. You only have to look at RDMH, in the 90s the high note was either deleted from the song (Live a Paris), or it was weak and not belted at all (Memphis). But in the TCWT it was fantastic, so it's clear that with some songs she get's better with age! Quote
Claudette Posted April 15, 2010 at 09:03 PM Posted April 15, 2010 at 09:03 PM (edited) Celine never sang that note in RDMH in the 90s (just look at the Divas DVD and the Brunei concert). There are definitely some song she sings better now than in the 90s. The note from ABM also sounded better than some of her attempts from the 90s. I'm not going to go into this any further. I'm just gonna accept it for what it is and believe that it was live. The rest of you can believe what you want. However judging by her previous live attemps of this song in the 90s, I'd say this version is too perfect to be live. Too perfect? LOL Although I find it absolutely fantastic it was re-recorded one way or the other or that it's live....but it's hardly a great (vocal) performance IMO...It sounds a bit like she has difficulty singing the songs at some points... But I definately prefer this over the live track we've been hearing for more than a decade now.. Scramasboy Posted April 15, 2010 at 09:25 PM Posted April 15, 2010 at 09:25 PM I think she sung it live, could be before a concert, inside the venue, or at one of the shows sometime, or whatever, but the long notes are autotuned, its obvious to me, I can always tell when she is autotuned, it sounds like perfect Celine but a bit mechanical. It's not perfect enough to be studio, but too perfect to be sung underneath playback. Its not autotuned to death, at least, like A New Day... Live in Las Vegas is. Hopefully they will rework the audio to add a more natural audiance sound, if not oh well, but it'd be nice.
