But the vocals have been autotuned. I think most of the long and high notes have been.

I couldn’t care less about the editing. Most of Mylene Farmer’s concerts have tons of editing but this is exactly what I find sad. The autotune. Even CBS got a special about it and the producers clearly mentioned Céline as well so some of you should stop denying what we hear here.

The thing I don't get from you is that you think Celine is being "lazy" because she can't sing like in 1996...Yeah right, Celine likes to be mediocre becasue she knows her label autotuned her songs....

Get over it! Celine's voice is superb, but it changed since 1996!

Hang on, I thought you were complaining about the song sounding vocoded?

The point is: you guys can't prove that that video was autotuned or recorded in a studio, so can we please move on and just enjoy the show. There are way too many people on here that has too little faith in Celine. It really annoys the crap out of me. Celine is not considered one of the best singers out there for nothing. Sometimes I wonder what Celine would think if she read the discussions on here. Besides, at this stage this should be the least of our concerns. Right now Celine needs the support of her fans and some positive vibes and thoughts. So stop waisting time on pointless discussions on whether this was live or autotuned and what not... Rather send a prayer Celine's way. Edited by Claudette

Well Said i couldnt say it better, she needs our support now!

The fact is Celines voice was awesome in 1996 and it was awesome in 2010, her voice has changes YES, but whos voice wouldnt change in 14 Years?? Thats normal so i think we need to lay that diccussion to rest. Because Celine has made it so CLEAR that she doesnt need to do it anymore (Her singing Career) but she does it for us, for anyone to think she is anything other than PURE is ignorant...I Just hope she is happy and keeps performing for her fans. The Ones that appreciate it and the Ones that dont.

Editing = cutting the scenes, cutting out the audience. Autotune = care.

Matias, that is just what I am saying. Her voice is still superb. So go on and sing live.

Claudette, with all due respect - I knew all along that the long note in Sorry For Love was vocoder while hundreds of you here claimed it was her singing it. This is the same case here. You don’t need to be an expert, you just have to have a sensitive ear.

And her family is her own business. Her music is mine so the fans are entitled to chew it over and over again if they’re not happy with the outcome and the standards she herself has set in the past.

It's blatantly obvious that the note in "Sorry For Love" has been tampered with.

Celine's Blues: Why the hell are we talking about ''Sorry for Love'' now? Look, I don't care what you think and what you believe. But this discussion is pointless because nobody knows the truth and people have been arguing about it since forever. We will never agree on it, so I'm just saying let's agree to disagree rather than continuing arguing about it. The time people spend arguing about lipping and autotuning just blows my mind...

And how can you not feel at least a bit for her at this stage. Don't you wonder whether or not she is doing ok and that she is happy and healthy? I just don't get some people...

Yes Céline voice is autotuned sometimes yes Céline uses playback but who cares???? We all

know what she is able to do!

Autotuning, lipsyncing: everyone uses it but how many singers can really sing without that? Not many! Céline still remains the best! end of the story!

Sorry, but I don't believe for one second that this is live.

It's a studio track placed on top of concert footage.....also known as "dubbing" ...something that Mariah Carey has done with all of her video releases dating back to 1993. Except her people do a far better job at making it look real. They dub in audience cheers and leave in a live feeling; at times, too much of the live feeling (they over-do it sometimes)....anyay, this dubbing is evident in how there is no live feeling to the video at all except a slight bit of reverb. There is no audience noise outside of the first line. And for the most part, all of her Celine-isms that she does when lipping appear to be present in this. Strange eyebrow twitches and obsessive jaw movement to make it look like vibrato is being added in. Although these Celine-isms are far less than what is present in the AND DVD...I still think that this means the "singing under the playback theory" and/or singing it live for one night is no longer a possibility. But I suppose if the audio was taken directly from the mic wihle singing under the playback (with the mic low) that could reduce a lot of audience noise, but certainly not that much.

Anyway, it's definitely 2009 (or 2008 or perhaps but doubtful 2010) vocals. No complaining there. It's great to have something new and glad to see she can still do it.

When I saw this interview advertised on celinedion.com I was so excited. When I went to the link and saw there was a video, I was elated. When I realized it was TPOL, I was ECSTATIC! I started watching it, thinking "Gosh, I LOVE the way she phrases the first [live] part... I wish it all sounded this easy sounding." Then I kept listening, and thought "WHOA! What oh what are we listening to hear?!?! Could it be that THIS is what she's really singing into the mic and we finally get to hear it?! not too shabby!"

Then I finished the vid. Watched it about a dozen more times. All her "Celine-isms" are totally there, but they just don't match up to the audio we're hearing. :( For folks who've followed her career, we'll all recognize this vocal as the type of vocal that Celine is thumping her way through on stage... raw, powerful, sometimes not pretty to watch, but always excited as all hell to see... we know that when she's singing live and giving it her all, she takes on the song with her hands in fists and unleashes what we all know is inside that tiny voice-box of hers.

What we're seeing is the classic TPOL live show version, and what we're hearing is something new, and you can tell they tried their best to match it all up, but there's a few spots where she's smiling too much to really have pulled off a note, or her mouth is shaped like an "O", but we're hearing "E" sounding notes, or the vocals fall a microsecond short of the note she's lipping to. Then there's the whole "let's just delete the noise from the audience" thing, which, really, would have made the performance all the more believable. Hearing applause for for the first few seconds, then nothing but newly recorded audio, then BAM, applause... it's too harsh.

I KNEW something was up with this song when they included like 23% of it in the ...Around The World... movie in theatres. Most of TPOL was instrumental, then a little vocals. I thought it was weird that they'd do that, but knew they were running the risk of releasing *another* performance of this song using the same track.

Bottom line, it was a great interview... fresh and unexpected. I'm so looking forward to what's in store in the future. I hope they learned from this tour, and instead of dealing with playback issues after the fact, when they're trying to make the DVD, and we've got hundreds of YouTube vids to compare it to, think about all this before hand and re-record stuff. Make it fresh. Update the musical arrangements. Take a little more time BEFORE the show, and it'll payoff volumes AFTER the show. Just think of Celine trying to enjoy her time off and being asked to re-record audio tracks from a world tour she'd just finished and is still trying to recover from, while she's worrying about what her new Vegas show will be like. It's too much all at once.

Oh, and Sony Music took down the YouTube vid someone posted... now why oh why would they do THAT?! Sheesh!

I totally agree with you Roberry82, they should sort out new playbacks for all lipped songs before each tour, that way she's used to lipping to that version so her lips will be perfectly in sync on the DVD. Also it means the DVD will actually contain the track that fans heard during that tour, rather than making a new recording after the tour has ended.

i swear i hear audience noices sometimes through the song!! Example after a note at 2.30... or do i just want to hear it? lol

what i dont understand is that after so many years singing the same songs ( not only TPOL ) isnt that going to be boring as hell?

i just watched the behind the scenes from Madonnas tour, and she says: i need to reinvent my old songs, not only for the fans, but also for her to keep her motivated etc.

thats why i wonder why doesnt celine change the old songs, who knows the hard ones to make it easier for her :D I dont care :P

 Totally agree with both of you. And they definitely should make new playbacks for every tour.

Yes I'm impressed Madonna restarts new shows after every album! Her old songs are remixed for the concerts but Celine just sings one track after another and her setlist is always the same "taking chances tour" = "let's talk about love tour"+"live in las Vegas"

So true! It's what I've been wanting for years!!! A refreshed sound. I'm not asking for Madonna-esque remixes on all the songs [though some songs could stand to prosper from such treatments], but just lighten it up a little. Celine has ALWAYS talked about "not having to sing one song after the other"... of course it's boring. The only way for someone with such a large catalog of music to keep it fresh is to either update the sound and arrangements of the songs or to choose different songs to perform. We all know how Rene feels about change... he's said it time and time again: he wants her fans to be able to come to any show she does and hear their favorite Celine song, sung the way *they think* it should be sung, and be happy with it. You see how worked up people got over her hair during Vegas... imagine if she started changing her songs?!?! The fan community would be in uproar, some loving it and some hating it, and the average type fan who'll go to a show just to hear a couple songs will be disappointed when their song suddenly sounds different. They're too far into the scheme of things to make such drastic changes, though, I for one, would welcome them.

Hearing TPOL's vocals sound different was nice. Now I'd like to hear the actual band sound different. I believe a lot of her songs sound very heavy, weighed down, with too much low, bass sound coming from back up vocalists and the band... It has lightened up over the years... compare now to FIY tour, and you'll see what I mean. TPOL's refreshed vocals would not have sounded so forced if the music wasn't in such contract to the vocals.

Makes me wonder what she'll sound like with this 30+ piece orchestra in the new Vegas show... Think back to the Jerry Lewis telethon when she performed Summertime. You can't add old vocal tracks from 10+ years ago to a live orchestra and expect it to sound good, but I guess that's a little off topic.

LTAL tour was better than TC

No it wasn't. TC Tour was edgier and had a better tracklist and better outfits than LTAL Tour.

Just my opinion, I agree with Celines look it was better on TC tour but LTAL had a better voice and setlist if you ask me!

I hope and think they will change arrangements of her songs now. But who knows, i guess her whole band isn't looking for any chances, otherwise they could have done it years ago.

arent there any new videos coming out of this show? ;-)

That's because half the songs in the LTAL tour were pre-recorded playbacks!!!

Celine was ready to take a break after the FIY tour, then along came Titanic. From what I read in My Story My Dream she really didn't have much energy/motivation for another world tour. Although in the end the LTAL tour was shorter than the FIY and TC tours...

Surely my dear, and I mean no disrespect, your response to 'Mr Blues' is prolonging the exact argument you wish to extinguish?? :whistling: :whistling:

Having worked with auto tuning in the studio when I did some sound engineering I guarantee that it is pre-recorded and autotuned.

It doesn't really bother me either way but those people who wish to deny it should accept the truth. Painful? maybe! Reality? deffo!!

But come on, can anyone here name any artist of this magnitude performing this many dates not using it at some stage? I doubt it!

Ms Dion has nothing to prove, she did all that years ago. Listen to Je Sais Pas in Paris during the TC to know she can. You wanna see her perform as regularly as she does she has to be allowed to do it from time to time. In response to detractors, yes any concert using pre-recorded vocal should be clearly designated the case. People can then make an informed choice.

I've known for years that she lip-synchs! Does it stop me from paying £100 to see a show. No Chance!!

Go for it Celine!!

Me too! Playbacks don't bother me one bit. In fact I quite like them cos for a lot of songs they are PERFECTION! :kicking:

I've worked with autotune too and I am 100% it was used but not all the songs: only some words :thumbsup2:

for exemple the new version of tc we Heard on Michel jasmin was not really autotuned! And no, she absolutely doesn't uses it live! :nono: I don't care if singers use autotune and playback if they proove us that they deserve to be called "singer" and Celine prooves us many times that she is the best!

Timster: playback is not perfection, Celine is!!!

Of course she is lol!

What I was trying to say is that I consider TPOL, IDAN and TLYM to be better than the CD versions. So that's why liked hearing those in concert. :thumbsup2:

I know, I wish there was a seperate topic for lipsynch and playback. I've sent PMs to Bellamy and Koolan in the past but neither have replied!!

Oh no! Not the "Sorry For Love" debate! You're right, Seb, people just wouldn't believe that that wasn't a real note. And then Sony proved it the next year!!!

I, however, do like the way "The Power of Love" is sung here. I do wish it wasn't vocoded so much, but it's fresh and new.
